Okay but not great. First, the atmosphere if you dine in is a little strange. It’s like being in someone’s large, outdated living room. There are some games available to play. Then, the food itself is just mediocre. The crust is what most differentiates this pizza from others. It’s flaky and buttery, sort of like a heavier pastry. If you’re really into this sort of crust, there probably aren’t too many other places you can find it in Indy. Both the breadsticks and pizza were otherwise nothing to talk about. Nothing wrong with it, just not worth coming back for, in my opinion.

The service is extremely friendly, food is good! You must try the seasoned breadsticks, they’re fantastic. The atmosphere is bizarre in all the best ways. You get to eat while listening to classic 80s ballads and play a game of checkers, chess, etc. what’s not to love?

Maria’s has the best pizza in this area IMHO. Not that there is an abundance of choices… but good none-the-less. I have never eaten in the dinning room. In fact, I’ve always gotten delivery which is pretty slow. They are my 7 yr olds favorite because they do have amazing breadsticks. The pepperoni breadsticks are STUFFED with pepperonis. Overall, they are a good choice just make sure you order at least an hour before you expect to eat.

This place is odd. When you walk in, you feel like you’re in a church basement rec room. The wait staff is friendly, but the service is almost always slow. None of this matters however because the pizza will change your life. The supreme(minus black olives) is my favorite pizza in town, maybe ever. It’s the perfect marriage of flavor between the buttery thin crust, tangy sauce, gooey cheese and that phenomenal spicy sausage. Bazbeaux is great if you like a fancier pizza, but if you’re looking for a good old American homemade pizza taste, you won’t be disappointed. This place offers a unique flavor that’s unlike any pizza I’ve ever had. I absolutely love it.

My wife remembers Maria’s from many years ago and would have been disappointed had she been with me when I ate there. I hate giving a poor review to a place that has a history and is obviously struggling to survive. My buddy and I stopped there, since neither of us had been before. The first impression is awful. Hardly anyone there, on a Thursday about 6 pm. The front section has tables, with a game(chess, backgammon) area in the middle section and just a jumble of stuff in the back section. The food order took forever to receive. Our wilted salad was not what I know as being wilted and even it took forever. Mine came with bacon, which I did not want, so they had to redo it. We thought the pizza would never arrive and were told that the oven is the original 1955 version and it bakes slowly. All this might have been fine if the pizza was excellent. It wasn’t. Just okay, although I did like the sauce. It’s not that I would not eat the pizza again, but I would only do carry-out or order ahead even if I meant to eat in the restaurant. This said, I doubt if I will return. Our server was excellent. Very attentive, and you could tell she was a hard worker. When I made a couple of comments about the slowness, she handled it well. Maybe this is a local favorite, although, when we left, we were the only ones there. They do not serve alcohol. There is parking in the rear, which is convenient. My rating of 3 might be a little generous.

We have never eaten in the dining room. We’re more of a carry out crew. Everyone in my family from the pizza fanatic to the skeptic loves Maria’s. The cheese is nice and gooey. And there’s a bunch of it. The edges are crispy. The sauce is fabulous! The only thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars is the customer service. There are times you feel like an inconvenience instead of the reason they are open. Yet, it’s not so off putting that it keeps us from ordering. There is a reason Maria’s has been around for so long. I’m sure they will continue to be around for many more years.

Threw a party next door at Game Paradise. Ordered 6 pizzas for about 20 people, they were delicious, the margarita pizza is superb. I have to recommend the sauerkraut pizza, it may sound strange, but this unique pizza is really tasty! If you like a good Ruben this pizza is for you. This place is great if you are in Fountain Square hit it up.

Worst Pizza place in Indianapolis area!!! Frozen pizza from Marsh would have had a better flavor and crust. I wish I could give this place a negative rating. Plus we waited an hour for our bad pizza and the place was only 25% full. Very slow service. Also, they don’t serve beer or wine!!! What kind of sit down pizza place does not serve alcohol? The bread sticks were the only item that was somewhat good. I give them a 8 out of 10 stars only on the breadsticks.

Absolutely dreadful experience during a First Friday in Fountain Square. Restaurant wasn’t crowded, just a group having some kind of party at a nearby table. After being seated, took awhile to get drinks or server’s attention. Ordered breadsticks and pizza. Waited 40 – 45 minutes for breadsticks, that were the obviously frozen kind that I could’ve made at home in a quarter of the time(long, thin, really smooth, sort of Olive Garden shaped but not as good!) The server said the kitchen was backed up, so it would be another 20 – 30 minutes for the pizza. We couldn’t wait any longer, so we offered to pay for the breadsticks(server said not to worry about it) and left. I felt badly for the server, who looked embarrassed about the whole thing. Definitely the worst experience I’ve had at a restaurant in Indy.

I’ve had Maria’s twice, once eating in and once catered for our rehearsal dinner next door at New Day Meadery. The time we ate in, the pizza was really good but it took a LONG time to come out. The restaurant was packed and we had to sit next to a musician, so conversation wasn’t that easy. But, the food was great. For our rehearsal dinner, we had an array of pizza, salads and breadsticks. Everyone was pleased with the food and no one left hungry, that’s for sure.

The atmosphere was nothing special and the pizza was bland. Service was good and I did enjoy the breadsticks, this place is 3-star worthy.

Absolutely wonderful pizza. Our friend raved about it, so we came and had dinner here. Started with seasoned breadsticks, which were delicious and actually quite spicy. Then came the star of the show-the pizza. We got a Mediterranean with sausage. It was delightful! Awesome crust, tangy sauce, and the toppings were exceptional. Great place!

Tasty! We ordered it for pick up but then decided to dine in when we arrived. It was nice to have it ready within in a few minutes in stead of ordering it and it taking half an hour. We were the only people eating in and the service was good. The pizza had a tangy seasoning that was really good. Not a huge fan of thin crust but it wasn’t too hard.

3.5 … food was great! Service was good… place was kid friendly. Recommend the mozzarella bread sticks(but they are spicy… so be aware). Sausage on the pizza was flavorful, but was in very large chunks. Soda wasn’t great… I think they had their formula wrong. In a great neighborhood. We will definitely go back.

Maria’s pizza is a very unique recipe that I have enjoyed since childhood. My family frequently visited Maria before she sold the restaurant nearly 20 years ago. A few owners later and at a new location the pizza still has that same great taste. The pizza is the perfect combination of buttery, crispy crust with a delightful cheese blend.

If I could, I’d eat ten of these pizzas all in one sitting. It was so delicious! I ordered two slices of the roma tomato pizza with herb and it was fantastic. The crust thin and crispy, hot and fresh out of the oven – it was fantastic. It was around $ 4 for a slice(not a HUGE one per say) but it was quality pizza and you could tell. It’s a dimly lit restaurant with a somewhat older feel to it. They have foosball, chess, checkers, and other random assortment of entertainment. It gave off a fun, hangout feel. I’m not sure how much a whole pizza would be, but I’d definitely like to try one and fully let myself go to the ways of the delicious pizza based god. All hail Maria’s pizza pies! If you’re hungry in Fountain Square, stop by!

Maria’s is a cute little pizza parlor in the heart of Fountain Square. We were looking for new pizza spots around town, so we decided to give it a try on a Saturday night. We walked in at 8pm, expecting to wait for a table, but Maria’s was completely empty. Seriously, we were the ONLY ones there. That was a huge red flag(who has no customers on a Saturday night?!), but we stayed anyway. A handful of folks wandered in for carry out while we ate, but the lack of customers was eerie. The décor is typical kitschy Italian — plastic table cloths decorated with olive oil and wine bottles and a few similar pieces of artwork through the restaurant. Very casual and nothing spectacular design-wise. A few game tables(foozball, checkers, chess) are in the center of the room, which was a nice personal touch. Would be good for kids. Now for the food. We started with an antipasto salad with creamy Italian dressing and seasoned breadsticks. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. Didn’t taste like homemade bread or dressing, which always disappoints me. We ordered a large supreme pizza because we wanted to try the sausage. A previous reviewer had mentioned that the sausage comes from Kincaids, which would’ve been nice for our server to tell us, or have been listed in the menu. The menu is fairly limited in topping options, but this is definitely a traditional pizza joint — not«artisanal» like so many other places around town. The pizza, as it should be, was the highlight of the meal. Like everyone else has mentioned, the crust is extremely buttery, like you made a crust out of Ritz crackers. It was very thin and flaky, and the toppings were excellent. A buttery crust like that reminds me of what you’d find on a Chicago-style pizza. Not my preference, but still yummy. Our server was very sweet and attentive for the most part, but he’d inexplicably disappear for long periods of time, like when we needed refills or wanted to pay our check. Wouldn’t have been a big deal, except that we were headed to a movie next. We made it, though, so no harm. Overall, Maria’s is a cute little pizza parlor with decent pizza. If buttery, flaky crust is your preference, then definitely give it a try. It’s very reasonably priced, and you just might have the whole restaurant to yourself! (I should also note that I don’t think they serve alcohol. None was listed on the menu or offered by our server. Bummer.)

Maria’s Pizza has been making since 1955. I have had carryout from there and thought the pizza, especially the crust which was light and flaky, was delicious. My dine-in experience was not as tasty, but it is still worth a visit. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive and were very glad for our business. The owner explained that they get their sausage from local meat market Kincaid’s. They actually provide Kincaid’s with the spices and then Kincaid’s mixes up the sausage. What a great collaboration of local businesses! Unfortunately, there’s no mention of this on the Maria’s menu. Maria’s could stand to do a bit more locavore-focuesed marketing. This is a good destination with kids as they have several games tables set up to keep the kids occupied while the pizza is being made.

Reminds me of that song — — «I want it all, and I want it NOW.» That’s the motto of my belly, so I love places that sell pizza by the slice. The interior was not what I was expecting. It felt like you were in someone’s home — someone’s very cool home. In the middle of the room, there was a Foosball table and tables for checkers, Chinese checkers, and chess. Our server was so nice and explained the menu and her favorite items(will have to try the spaghetti next time!). Their pizzas are wonderful, but since they make the dough fresh, it can take a bit. But pizza by the slice takes less time than it takes to play a game of Chinese checkers. The crust is the star here — buttery, crispy but not too dry, perfect thickness. The sauce and cheese were great. I can’t wait to go back and try other stuff on the menu.

You should know that I LOVEPIZZA! And Maria’s Pizza is easily one of, if not my favorite pizzas in Indy. I love the location. Right in the heart of Fountain Square, so it makes a nice starting spot for an evening in the area. I’m not a big fan of the interior decoration. From the color on the walls to the tablecloths, to the overall seating arrangement. The atmosphere is lacking in a major way. Just not a lot to be excited about. Kind of dark. Would love to see that improve. As for the pizza. I love their sauce, crust, and I especially love their cheese. The recipe is definitely original and homemade. It’s a bit pricey when compared to pie prices around town, but I have no issues paying a few extra bucks to support a local restaurant that puts out quality food each and every time.
