This happens to be my family doctor’s practice site after I was too old to see my pediatrician and my old family doctor retired. The way the office is setup is really confusing since they have a nurses’ station, lab draw dept, and exam rooms inside. I walked up to the window and checked in — they didn’t even bother to give me an information update considering I haven’t been there for years. They also took my payment upfront during that time rather than after the appointment at a separate counter. When the LPN called me in, she rattled off everything she needed from me. Excuse me? I didn’t catch what you said. She weighed me with my shoes on and checked my height… and I grew 0.75″ when I’m at the age where I shouldn’t be growing anymore. She took me to an exam room, took my blood pressure and pulse right away. Talking about being way inaccurate — my blood pressure was off considering she didn’t even take it correctly. When my doctor came in, she always seems to rush through things never giving me the opportunity to answer her questions. Actually, she talks over me! While I am telling her my history, she just types away on her computer. Perhaps she tries to be cautious and thorough, but I thought that some of the tests she offered were unnecessary since it wasn’t time for it yet. Did I mention I passed on the STI testing thing when my chart said I wasn’t sexually active. *Sigh* It would be nice if she provided some feedback to conclude the exam rather than pass off the information to an assistant to speak with me over the phone. It’s very impersonal and what if I had questions? I hate belng left hanging. Although, she is a very qualified doctor, just that I can’t establish a patient-doctor connection with her. Considering it wasn’t even busy since I had the appointment time of my choosing, it took almost 2 hours for me to get a physical and blood draw. A few hours after my blood draw my left arm is in pain and I realize there’s a quarter-sized bruise there. Also, the nursing staff needs to be more clear in giving directions and not just leaving me here or there unattended.
