Art everywhere! What a great way to feature local artists and galleries and a perfect excuse for a night out in Downtown Indy! Even if you don’t feel like you are a part of the«art crew or a groupie» this event can be enjoyed by everyone and for as long as you wish! Multiple galleries throughout the downtown area participate so even if you are out for dinner on Mass Ave or dancing in Fountain Square, there is an opportunity to enjoy the new gallery openings and meet some amazing local people. The Stutz Gallery, Gallery 924, and the Harrison Center/City Gallery, are just a few of my usual stops along the way, but everywhere you go around downtown you will find some beautiful hand made work. Everything from jewelry to sculpture to painting can be found at these galleries. If you go to IDADA’s website( ) there is a First Friday map that you can view to help make an entire night out and visit multiple locations. The ONLY reason that this event doesn’t get all 5 stars is due to the minor inconvenience that since it only happens once a month and for only a few hours it is very difficult to make it around to every gallery and see everything you want! It would be great to have some sort of shuttle service in the winter months to make it more convenient!

Whether you’re wanting to take your first dive into the local art scene, or you’re an Indy arts veteran, the IDADA(Indianapolis Downtown Artists & Dealers Association) First Fridays are a great way to explore the art galleries of downtown Indianapolis. Located primarily on Mass Ave(there are a few exceptions), the First Friday tours also tend to have involvement of local business like Tantrum, a boutique fashion store that hosts fashion shows and other events during First Fridays. The galleries range from traditional to contemporary, and most work is for sale. Taking place on the first friday of every month, IDADA’s events are quite popular in the spring and summer, particularly for Indy’s downtown residents.
