For the love of egg rolls!!! By far, they have the best egg rolls I have ever tasted… and they are cheap. It’s probably best to do take out, because their service is slow and the location isn’t great.

This place has been a long time love of mines, but sad to say sometimes you have to know when to let go. I ordered carryout tonight & psyched myself up for nothing. I ordered the chicken chow mein, which by the way is one of my favorites, it comes with fried noodles & white rice on the side. Next, chicken egg foo young. I took a couple of bites & noticed a difference in the taste of the chicken. I also noticed that the texture changed! As I dared to take another bite, it struck me that I was eating tofu, not chicken. Since I do prepare tofu from time to time I immediately noticed the taste after the second bite. I had chicken fried rice which again tasted like tofu. The only thing that was tofu free was the vegetable fried rice & the egg rolls. First off I’m very disappointed because me & this place had a lot of history together. As a child I remember getting my first haircut from the salon that is next door. What upsets me the most is the price has increased & they have skimped out on the ingredients. They say«It’s better to have loved than to not have loved at all!» Not me I say«Love is to be felt & learned!» Not to be treated less favorably, because your in need & want of it! So just like a bad habit, I will have to drop this place as one of my favorites. I used to brag about this place back in the day & now I’m in total shock. Although the chicken chow mein & the egg roll was still original, it doesn’t suffice for the lack there of the chicken. Bottom line is this, if I wanted to eat tofu, I could have prepared it myself. Not really sure if it actually is tofu or not, but I do know it tastes just like it. I’ve never heard of them closing down due to food violations, so for the sake of me not being grossed out by my own review, I’m going to think optimistic & say it’s tofu. i used to hold this place in high regards, now I know that it will be far & few before I will, if I ever will eat there again. I feel bad, it’s almost like being in a relationship that was a fairy-tale romance, just to end up having to tell everyone that, it was just what it was a fairy-tale! Unfortunately they duped me out of $ 32, which I could have eating some where else for half the price & got served real chicken. Well, I have pretty much washed my hands in this situation & will look for another Chinese spot.

After scanning reviews for Chinese dining experiences in Indy, this is the place that was chosen. Now I’m not really a fan of chinese food and find it too oily, but even with that aside I was very pleased with the flavors(and I suppose delicious deep-fry-ed-ness) of their egg rolls. My boyfriend has been praising this place non-stop since we tried it last weekend, and I think we’re both anxious to return. We chatted with a ‘local’ who has gone to this place regularly, as did his father many years before. He even had his wedding catered from this place! The location is very hole-in-the-wall, and not a haven for fussy suburbanites. Now enough talking — go find the place, and try their egg rolls.

I’ve been eating here since 1966. It’s the most authentic Cantonese food anywhere. It’s ruined me for the standard Chinese food one finds nearby. The egg rolls are heavenly. The sauces are home made and there are bean sprouts in the fried rice! I yearn for this place every time I crave some Chinese take away. I go back every year to enjoy this special place. Now, the location is a bit dicey; the neighborhood has gone downhill since I last lived up the road. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying the best sweet and sour chicken in the world. Prices are incredibly good and make sure you try the sorbet for dessert, also home made!

You have not had an egg roll until you have had one from this place, seriously. They are HUGE(bigger than your fist), the best you will ever eat, and only $ 1! My family used to get take out from Hong Kong Inn religiously and now that I’ve moved away I crave them like crazy. So much, in fact, that every time I go back to Indy I MUST make a meal out of nothing but Hong Kong Inn Egg Rolls AND buy extras to fly home in a cooler with me. I’m not kidding, they are that good. That said, their service is sub par, location is scary and cleanliness leaves much to be desired(hence the two stars off). Not that that matters, get these things take out and I promise you’ll be glad that you did!
