What I like about Harbor Freight is that you can walk in and walk out with an 8000lb cable winch and a 20ft 5400lb capacity chain inside of 10 minutes. Where will we be when the only place to get these things is the internet?!? They have all kinds of hardware for the do-it-yourself, semi-pro and professional fixer — welders, clamps and vises, tools, air compressors, tarps, you name it — they’ve got it. Did I say they have a large selection of floor jacks? Prices are better than most big box retailers. Quality is probably about the same.

I usually buy tools to be used once or twice a year, in my latest visit I bought a 3 ton floor jack, impact wrench and a socket set. I know I will be using them for few times only and Harbor Freight sells these tool for a dirt cheap price with an acceptable quality. Some items have excellent reviews like the floor jack I bought today and should last for many years. I highly recommend the place for the average Joe in getting any needed tools. I regret spending double the money in buying tools from Lowe’s or Home Depot as I was too lazy to give Harbor Freight a try. They have 90 days return policy on all items. This store is clean and organized, it does need a power door, a door that will open automatically for customers, I hit the manual entrance door they have with my shopping cart many times, I need to stand with one hand holding the door open and the other hand pushing the cart inside.

great helpful staff. i am here quite a bit. I go only because I get something for free. That hook works for me. I have a bunch of flashlights scissors screwdrivers and some electrical thing that I have no idea how to use. I know it is mainly from China and not the best quality but if it gets the job done than I will get it and the difference in money I have left over I will spend at another location near you.

Where has this place been all my life!!! It’s appropriate that this is near Castleton Square Mall because this place is like the man’s equivalent of Castleton Square Mall. This place has tools, gadgets and accessories that I didn’t know existed but, upon seeing, knew that I needed *NOW*. After stumbling across this place, I find Lowes and Home Depot inadequate. There are just more toys here and the prices are lower.

The staff is friendly. Look for Jill, she’s been there a while, she knows her tools(no, that’s not a euphamism) and she knows where they’re located. The store is pretty well organized and there’s ALWAYS stuff on sale. Their Pittsburgh brand hand tools(wrenches, sockets, rachets and the like) are guaranteed for life(like Craftsman!) but not too expensive(UNlike Craftsman!). It’s tucked away behind the mall, so it’s not easy to get to but if you’re on the way to Costco(heck yeah, love that joint), it’s right down the block. HF has a sister store located on the south side of town in the shopping plaza right off of 465 and 31. My only complaint is that they need one in Carmel or on the NW side of town too. Use common sense here, folks. You’re not going to spend $ 40 on a power tool and get the same quality as you would on a $ 200 power tool down the street. But unless you’re a professional tool guy(and I’m talking carpenter, mechanic, et cetera here guys, NOT a professional tool collector!), you’re a do-it-yourselfer and you’re probably only going to be using this power tool a handful of times anyway, am I right? So why spend $ 100 on a power tool that you’ll probably use six times before losing it, loaning it out, or leaving it on the tailgate and driving off(yeah, yeah, but that was ONE time and I’ll never do it again, sheez!). If you’re really worried about the quality, most of the power tools are available with an extended warranty for just a few bucks more. If you’re using this power tool a lot, I recommend it. If you’re handy with a your hands, then this isn’t a tool store… it’s a TOY store, and yes, I love it. «If the women don’t find ya handsome, they should at least find ya handy!» –Red Green –John Cannon @MyCarDoc on twitter

This is basically a tool store. Everything is imported from China. Look for their flyer in the Sunday paper. You can get some really great deals here. But be careful, some is quality, but a lot of it is flimsy Chinese junk. The simpler the tool, the better chance it can be good quality. Nothing is going to be the quality of Sears Craftsman, but if you know what you’re doing, and you’re handy with tools, this is a good place to stock your workshop. Sister store is in Southern Plaza, 4200 S. East St(US31).
