I had to give Chapati a 5 star review because the family that runs the restaurant was so friendly and truly wanted to know how my meal was and if there was anything they could do to improve my visit. Not only was the service fabulous but so was the food! Everything was fresh and flavorful. Its not your typical Indian food but I highly recommend it!

I travel for work and was driving to the airport. I had some time to kill and it was nearing lunch. I pulled up Unilocal and searched a good 10 mile radius of Indianapolis and sorted by highest rated. Chapati topped the list and I was shocked at the number of perfect 5 star reviews! I had to try it. Upon arriving, I was a little surprised that such a high rated place was in a shopping center beside a smoke shop, but I forged on. Upon entering I was pleased with how modern the place was. I loved the design/paint and TVs, seating and even table games, which I had no idea how to play. I was welcomed perfectly by a guy working. He was very helpful in making a food selection, all of which I had no idea what was. I settled for a combination of Butter chicken and Goat Karahai. I have had Indian/middle eastern food before, and this was DEFINITELY the best I have ever had. I highly recommend this place for anyone in the area, it is worth the drive. I am excited for my trip back to the area in March because I will be back!

I’ve heard a lot about this place, but was hesitant cause there’s no real authentic Pakistani/Indian experience I’ve had traveling the US. As soon as you walk in you’re blessed with the most delicious smells and the warmest welcome! I’ve never seen a blend of styles that Chapati has. Hip modern environment with unique art on the wall. They also play some of the best music from Pakistani, Indian, Hip-hop, and other international sounds. On top of all that they have carrom board, it simply took me back to my child hood memories! The first impression is so great you don’t expect it to be topped, but then once you receive the service you’re simply proud about how some people are so dedicated to quality and pure attention. The guy at the counter explained all details, cook preparation, whats unique, and what’s authentic. His understanding and delivery of the menu had true passion and love. I decided to go with Samosas, Mango lasi, and a butter chicken and eggplant Masala combo. Everything came steaming with excellent presentation. Every bite was decadent with the perfect amount of spicing and textures. I literally was shocked at how good this Pakistani place is in the middle of Indiana. Come to find out the owners mothers recipes and cook styles are in effect, which only bring back memories of the motherland. I will be back to try the entire menu if not just be here all day, every day! Chapati really makes me proud to see there are successful and creative individuals trying to bring all echelons together. Some of the best middle eastern food I’ve ever had and I’ve had my fair share in Chicago and through my travels. An awesome family run business, hearty portions and good service. So glad we stumbled upon this place. Definitely will become a regular pit stop on our trips between Chicago and Cincinnati!

I was first introduced to Chapati at a Unilocal event, and I can promise I’ll be back. I got to chat with one of the owners of the restaurant(his mom is the main chef, simply cooking what she grew up eating and cooking her whole life– so cool!), and he explained that the cuisine is a fusion of Pakistani & Indian flavors. While I can’t attest to the restaurant itself, the food was out of the world. Spicy, fresh, delicious. I only wish that they were located downtown Indy as opposed to out near Eagle Creek. Maybe one day they will have a food truck?!

Weird, I swear I have reviewed this place before, but it gives me the chance to review it again! No complaints here because this is, by far, one of my favorite restaurants in the Indy area. It mixes the spices and herbs you love into a new, fun, creative way. I just spoke with a staff member today. He showed me their newest version of the menu. And OHMYVEGGIEOPTIONS, to all of you herbivores out there. They’ve added so many different options — I can’t wait to try them! When I first went to Chapati, I was so confused because the interior does not match your expectations(in a good way). It’s like a restaurant that belongs on the West Coast or on Mass Ave near 45 Degrees. Very modern and sleek. The best part, of course, is the food. The options are endless and the staff are extremely knowledgable about what’s in each dish and have great recommendations. I got a half and half veggie platter. It reminded me of YATS, but had that authentic, ethnic twist that I can’t get enough of. Do yourself a huge favor and visit this hidden gem!

Chapati is the real deal. I throw 5 star reviews out very rarely and Chapati gets it. Goat beets? Sure. Lamb kabobs. Yep. Mango Lassi. Give me an IV. Aloo Chaat. Let me swim in it. Out of the morass that is countless Middle Eastern restaurants Chapati stands way out. Prepared fresh, the menu is great for it’s simplicity, everything is explained up front and lives up to the billing. If you haven’t eaten here yet what are you waiting for? Looking to get my Chapati on again real soon. Two thumbs up.

Edit: I appreciate the response from the business and while I’ll admit that Tikka is at some places cooked in a single large thigh(just some places, most places cook it in pieces. I’m Indian), there’s never a single thigh in a dish priced at 10 dollars. There’s no explanation about why there’s basmati rice in a dish titled Chicken Tikka. I was in your restaurant dear sir/madam. Your menu should tell me the story about the contents of the dish, not a website. The person at the counter did point out that we get one roti with the dish. We reduced our order from 6 chapatis to 4, and yet had rotis remaining after the meal that I ate with rice or just the roti itself. That’s saying something about the portions, even considering quality meat. I believe that adding the terms ‘meat only’ or ‘meat with rice’ would really help customers make a decision they won’t regret. The butter chicken at this place is different yet delicious. However I ordered Chicken Tikka upon which I received a single whole chicken thigh that was cooked and spiced in tandoori style. The rest of the dish was basmati rice. So the dish is not really all chicken, and it’s not tikka(which means pieces, not a whole thigh). When you order 4 rotis with a dish that sounds like a meat-only dish, you should be informed about the contents that make up the dish. There was no explanation on the menu either. Portion sizes are small too. I heard the person behind the desk suggest the butter chicken dish to someone else. Makes me wonder if they’re a one trick pony.

We decided to eat here after reading the rave reviews from fellow Unilocalers, and this place lived up to the high expectations. This is not your typical run of the mill desi restaurant. They have carrom boards, fun way to kill some time while you wait for food. Their menu is written on a wall and changes every so often. I thought I would never say this for a desi restaurant but this one is actually a cool place. We had the Nehari, Seekh kebabs and behari with Naan, everything was as good as it can get. Meat was of good quality and food wasn’t laden with loads of ghee(fat) except for Nehari, which is to be expected. Spice level was authentic but not overpowering. Even the side order of rice, which comes with most dishes was very flavorful and great to eat next day for leftover. For dessert we had Falooda. It was delicious. They used thinner vermicelli like noodles instead of the traditional thicker noodles we are used to, but many restaurants in Chicago area do the same. It is owned and operated by a very warm and welcoming family. They are very attentive and explain the menu very patiently and enthusiastically. We haven’t tried EastMeatsWest portion of menu because every time we visit big cities, we need to get our traditional Desi food fix, but it is safe to assume it is as good as the rest. In my books, this place is better than most restaurants we have been to on Devon street in Chicago. We will be sure to stop by when we are in town. Lot’s of luck to them, only wish we could eat here more often, alas we live too far.

The service is so amazing I want to come back and just hang out all day! They have a great environment with cool music. They do an amazing job explaining everything. The food is as authentic as it gets with some clever new dishes in the fusion section. I recommend trying the combos from the Gourmet Dish section and Beef Behari and Chicken Boti have become a serial craving for me. Always get the mango lasi for a nice sweet tangy Indian smoothie. This place is super unique yet pure to its origins. Everyone in Indy and all over must try Chapati!

Conveniently located right off 65, chapati is a kick ass addition to the usual Indio — pak food options. Unassuming from outside, but walk in and it’s a huge, open space with a unique look. The mix of gourmet and delicious street fare is a welcome change from the usual format at north or south Indian places. Love love love. Go there!

Prepare your tastebuds for this range of flavour! So good, you want to eat even the naan on it’s own. While on the way to Chicago, we were looking for a place to eat near Indianapolis. With a quick search, this gem showed up. We were very intrigued since with 65 reviews at the time they had an average of 5 stars. We got here at about 6pm on a Thursday. No one else was there. The guy at the register gave us details on different menu options and how to order. The three of us decided to get Aloo Chaat with one combination combo(butter chicken and chicken biryani) and the beef behari with an extra naan. For 3 people this was plenty of food! The chaat came out first and was super good. Lots of texture, a little sweet, and a good hold over until the meal came. The plates were loaded with food. First, the butter chicken was my favorite. It had a sumptuous tanginess to it. Very addicting, and good with naan, chapati, rice or even on it’s own by the spoonful! The chicken biryani was equally good. The rice they use is a long grain, different from most other(North) Indian places. The knob of chicken that came with it was very tender and flavorful. The beef behari was also good. Very tender and a hint of spice. The chapati is also nice. Hearty but soft. The naan is fluffy and buttery heaven. The mango lassi is also great! Not too sweet but still thick and smooth. Next time: I want to try their daal. Looks so good!

Ohh Chapati! You are exactly what Indy needed. Tucked away in the corner of a strip mall, you wouldn’t expect the clean, simple and modern décor. The space almost feels a little too big. Maybe a few more wall decorations would help? The tables are elevated and huge, decorated with symbols and surrounded by padded benches. Very cool space, just needs a bit of lighting adjustment. Fluorescent lights don’t do the place justice. Anyway, when you first look at the menu, it seems a bit overwhelming. The guy at the counter was happy to explain everything, as he asked if we had ever been there. There are three sections of the menu. First, various dishes with varying spices and meats. They had things like biryani, eggplant masala, and nihari(a deliciously tender piece of beef in curry sauce). You can choose between different combos, some with rice and chapati, just rice, choose two, etc. The next part of the menu is all skewers of meat. They had lamb, chicken(tikka masala), beef, and goat. We didn’t opt for any of these, but next time i’ll definitely give it a try. The last section was various Chaats(described as Pakistani street food). They had tangy, spicy and a few others(all were vegetarian!). We opted for the Aloo Chaat. This was one of the best things I have ever eaten. It was almost like a thin yogurt soup, served not quite chilled. It contained spices, seasoned potatoes, chickpeas, onion, cilantro and topped with crackers. It was the PERFECT combination of spiced, creamy, crunchy, salty and tangy. I could eat this everyday. We also decided to try two things from the first menu with some rice and chapati, and ordered an extra side of naan, because naan. We had the nihari and the eggplant masala. Both were spectacular! The nihari was perfectly tender, swimming in a rich, fatty curry sauce with some chilis sprinkled on top. The eggplant were small, cooked in a very flavorful masala sauce. Amazing vegetarian option. Oh, halfway through our meal I also noticed everyone drinking bright yellow beverages, what I could only assume was mango lassi(a yogurt drink). So I excitedly sauntered up to the counter and asked for one. Please try one. It sweetly calms the heat of the curry and made my meal leaps and bounds more enjoyable. Overall, this place is one of the best(if not one of the only) Pakistani restaurants(with some Indian too) in Indy. Prices aren’t dirt cheap but you’re paying for quality. I can’t wait to come back for more.

Awesome local ethnic restaurant! The service was very great as what I’ll assume was the owners son did a great job explaining the menu for us since it was our first time. Make sure to not be afraid about the menu as it can be new, but exciting! We had the butter chicken and beef behari with rice and chapati! Chapati is kind of like a very thin pancake/bread, which was nice to eat with meat and veggies. Both of the meat options had a nice spice flavor One of the appeals of this place is that uses organic meat! I would definitely enjoy coming back and trying the many other options!

What a wonderful place for Pakistani cuisine! Not busy on a Sunday night, so we got extra special treatment from the cook’s son who explained the menu carefully to us. My friend and I decided we’d get one of the four yogurt chaats as an appetizer. We opted for the aloo chaat with potato cakes and chickpeas. A great choice… the mixture of hot and cold and crunchy and soft was great! For the entrée, we got beef behari(spiced halal beef kabobs) which was so tender it literally(and I’m a wordsmith, so I’m NOT exaggerating) melts in your mouth. Per my request, it was made pretty spicy, and went well with the green sauces served with it. This was my favorite of all the items. I highly recommend it. The other entrée was a «combo» where we selected two of the«gourmet dishes” – buttered chicken(which actually contained no butter – excellently done) and goat beets. The beets were a gamble item that I ordered and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome! Also rather spicy, but I like that. Finally, the chapati(bread without yeast) was incredible. The owner brought us a sample of the Arabian smoothie with acai berries and strawberries and if we weren’t stuffed, we definitely would have gotten one as it was one of the best smoothies I’ve ever tasted! Quality ingredients, great service and staff, huge portions. A+

One of the significant bummers about Indian food in Indianapolis is that virtually every restaurant takes on a similar brand identity. Each one tries to be fancy and upscale in its ambience and service. Most of the food is virtually identical, giving most non-Indians a myopic view of the cuisine, and in actuality the food would hardly be considered fancy or upscale in India. It’s exciting to see that Chapati, the new kid on the block, is not only branding itself as fast casual, but is also offering something new, chaat, in a manner clearly marketed to both Indians and non-Indians. If you’ve never had chaat before, it’s a category of South Asian street food characterized by a dynamic flavor mix of chutneys, with sweet, spicy, salty, and tangy all blended together. Ginger, tamarind, onions, coriander, and yogurt play a big role, often on top of toasted puris, fried potatoes, chickpeas, or lentils. This definitely isn’t diet food, but it’s beyond delicious, even if you don’t typically like Indian food. I’ve heard individual dishes compared to nachos, sloppy joes, and egg rolls, but the flavor is unlike any other cuisine I know. At this writing, it’s hard to comment on service, as when I was there the place was empty. I imagine kinks are still being worked out, but the food we ordered came quickly and the place itself was trendy and attractive inside. For those who look into this, the owners report the meat is 100% halal and organic. As a vegetarian, the choices are a bit more limited than other Indian restaurants, with two vegetarian entrees(daal and eggplant) and a selection from the chaat menu, but everything we tried was so delicious that I could order it every time. I couldn’t be more excited that Chapati’s in town. No matter what kind of food you like, definitely give it a taste.
