Lots of awesome flavors! My husband brought home three cupcakes as a surprise and they were all quite tasty and unique. Unfortunately their location is pretty gross. That strip mall needs a serious facelift! I bet Big Mike’s(the family restaurant next door) would sure appreciate it, too!

I have a killer sweet tooth so any new dessert shop in town, I HAVE to try. I stopped by around 5:00 on a Friday and was the only customer. The place doesn’t impress when you first walk in but I’m more about the food than the storefront anyway(just show me the sweets and no one gets hurt! :). There were eight different cupcake flavors to choose from in addition to some huge chocolate brownies. I chose the banana and a strawberry one for my two-year-old niece’s birthday. The owner even offered to include candles! That was really nice of her. Individual cupcakes are $ 3 each and come in a ‘Chinese’ to go box, which was creative I thought. The banana cupcake was more like banana bread than true cake and it was filled with banana cream in the middle. The frosting was light and fluffy and it was topped with something similar to a vanilla wafer. I would definitely get the banana one again! The banana bread reminded me of my grandmother’s it was so good.

I really like the vanilla cupcakes. I usually only eat vanilla but I tried the Bailey’s cupcake and it was really good too, I loved the icing! Give it a try you’ll be pleased. I drive by the location everyday on my way home from the office, it’s not a fancy strip mall but don’t let that stop you.

Having seen my friend Holly Garrett’s review of Bite Me, Cupcakes, I decided to visit this location after my meal at Big Mike’s Americana Café that is located in the same strip center. As Holly noted, the owner spent several years as a chef in London restaurants before relocating to the U.S. and opening a bakery. This evening, I stopped in after a long day at work and wanting to satisfy my sweet tooth without completely splurging. While you may find yourself asking if Indy really needs yet another cupcake joint, Bite Me is actually located in a good location to win business from neighboring office plazas and is fairly set apart from the nearby places like GiGi’s and others. Bite Me’s cupcakes seemed for the most part a tad smaller than a couple of the other gourmet shops in town, though it’s also worth noting that their prices were about 40% less than I’ve typically paid in some of the gourmet shops. Tonight, I went for a single cupcake — a «black and white,» a chocolate cupcake with white icing and a bite-sized candy on top. They wrap it up in their pretty little box(or they have a very small dining area in front of their counter, though they’d be in serious trouble if too many people wanted to dine in!). They also had red velvet, Bailey’s, whiskey cupcakes, and a few others. I also noticed some other baked goods and a few drink options, though I’d just had dinner and really just wanted that hint of sweetness. The woman working the counter was friendly and genuinely conversational — not just being«polite,» but seemingly actually interested. We discussed my day dealing with lawyers and she talked about being a paralegal and opting out of the law path. It was an interesting and friendly conversation. The cupcake was good. The icing was rich, but not so rich I felt decadent. The cupcake itself was moist and light and very tasty. I paid $ 3 plus tax. Was it more than you might pay in your generic bakery? Sure, but it was also better tasting and I was supporting a local business. Win/win. If you’re in the neighborhood of 96th& College, I wholeheartedly recommend giving them a try.

Bite Me, Cupcakes is located on the NE corner of 96th and College Avenue. Owner Sandra Newkirk spent several years as a chef in the finest London restaurants before moving to the states and opening a bakery. Her passion for the culinary arts is quite evident. I stopped in her shop on March 16th and asked what she had for Saint Patrick’s Day. She let me know what she would be baking for the holiday — Green Velvet, Bailey’s and Whiskey Cupcakes. In addition, she had a couple of small loaves of Irish soda bread that looked amazing. Since we were having a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration at work the next day, I placed my order for a dozen assorted cupcakes and a couple of loaves of the bread. When I walked in her shop this morning, the wonderful aroma of the fresh baked soda bread was all I needed to know that Sandra is the real deal! I had a piece for breakfast this morning — it is moist and flavorful, while still keeping an authentic soda bread flavor and texture. The cupcakes look and smell amazing! I’ll have to report on those later, but I will be posting a picture of them as well. Gotta love a locally owned business with a heart and vision like Sandra!
