Had a carne asada burrito and the meat had a gamey after taste. the price list said $ 5.00 gave her a $ 20.00 and only got $ 14.00 back. I won’t go back, I’m sticking with Mi Casita or San Antonio!

I’m a taco guy and I really enjoyed the tacos at Taqueria Los Girasoles(translation: Sunflower Tacos). There isn’t a ton to differentiate this joint from the plethora of other capable taco joints in the Monmouth/Independence area except that this place is the only one that I can confidently say has hand-made corn tortillas. They’re exceptionally light and fluffy and create a taco that can distinguish itself against the competition. There is a small covered table to sit at and chow down when the rain is flowing(which is often in this part of the country). Seem to be open most of the time and the most expensive menu item is the $ 5 burrito. You can also get tortas and tamales as well as some really interesting meats(lingua, pork head, etc.). If you’re looking for a cheap and quick bit, swing on in and give these folks some of your money!

The torta here is very very good. You can’t get much better than a crusty bun warmed on the grill, filled with choice of meat(I got the asada), avacado, onion, cilantro, cheese, jalapenos, and salsa verde. Sooo yummy. The husband got tacos de tripas and carnitas again wonderful authentic mexican tacos. For those that like tripas these are crunchy which my husband likes but needed salt. I now have three places I can get wonderful tacos or tortas in Independence.
