I’ve got no problem with the coffee at Gloria Jean’s in Independence, if the staff cared enough to make it properly. I’ve had problems twice this year — once with a cappuccino where the barista left out the coffee, and once with a cup of coffee that included a tablespoon of grounds. And, in both instances, the clerk couldn’t be bothered to apologize for the mistake. In the case of the missing coffee, they acted as if I was being too picky… and in the case of the grounds, just a shrug and an explanation that«it happens sometimes». This used to be a decent place for coffee, but has gone downhill. (Added note: Attempted to contact store manager and corporate office. No reply from either.)

I was at Independence Center, and I stopped in Gloria Jeans. I ordered a frozen Madagascar vanilla caramel coffee… similar to a blended frappé at Starbucks. I don’t like coffee, but I was heading home to work out, and I needed the caffeine. I ordered it with soy, and sat down. I think Gloria Jeans has a good product, but it wasn’t what I’m used to at Starbucks, which has a sweeter product, and maybe even cheaper. I think the frappes at Starbucks have a more definite taste, and the one at Gloria Jeans, not so much flavor I noticed. The drink was blended, and I had her add whip cream. I never could taste the caramel, but the vanilla stood out. I’m vanilla picky, and enjoyed the flavor of the Madagascar vanilla. Gloria Jeans also carries food items, brownies, cookies, and different coffees, teas and cups. The service is impeccable. I’ll stop in there when I’m at the mall and want something besides the usual food at the food court.

If your taste buds feel like experimenting within the mall scene, be sure to stop by Gloria Jean’s. Gloria Jean’s is located on the top floor of Independence Center in Independence, Missouri. The sweet, magnificent aroma of freshly brewed coffee can be smelled within many stores of the cramped yet cozy coffee shop, automatically making anyone’s stomach rumble in anticipation. There were two baristas behind the counter as I walked in and two people already in line. As I claimed my spot in line, we were told to wait a few moments as they made some drinks. A «few moments» turned into a few minutes, and a few minutes turned into several minutes, several minutes turned into many minutes, and so forth… When I finally got to the front, I asked the lady if their pumpkin spice latte contained coffee and she replied«yes, in fact, we make it with a toddy brew.» Excellent! I placed my order. HALLALUAH! I found pumpkin! Gloria Jean’s pumpkin spice was 10 times better than Starbuck’s pumpkin latte. As I sipped on the steaming drink, thoughts of turkey, mashed potatoes, glorious pie, and all things Thanksgiving-ish flowed through my head. The only downfalls to this drink were 1: the whipped cream was bland(crisis solved by adding a dash of nutmeg from the condiment stand) and 2: the advertisement for the pumpkin spice featured a drink with caramel on top. My drink had not a trace of caramel. Those two tragedies aside, the drink was pretty delicious. The baristas are well informed about their products and can answer any coffee related question that is thrown their way. Gloria Jean’s is a fun pit stop during a shopping spree at Independence Center.
