Filippi’s Pizza Grotto

If you love cheese, this is the restaurant for you. It’s tasty but way too much cheese. It’s like cheese with a little pizza. The waitress was great and it seems like a very family friendly place.

They are always on top of things here. Quick service. I place my order to eat there 15 min before and when I get in they have it ready. Love that. Also love that it’s sooooo close to the beach, so right after a surf session or just hanging out near the water, you can eat some good ol’ pizza or pasta. I always choose the Lasagna. The bread is also deliciously warm and soft.

Wonderful service by our young waiter. We walked in as fools and he joined in the jackassery. Most kind waiter named Ben. They have excellent food (for pizza)! An all around fun time. The décor was questionable with women’s wrestling players in tv but no matter. We four fools enjoyed the chh

Service was nice and our food came out quickly and was very tasty.
Fresh salads balance out the heavy pasta and pizza dished perfectly.
I got spaghetti for the sole reason of having a mound of sauce as well as some garlic bread.
The guys had a pizza which was good as well, but the marinara is the real star here, tons of great flavors going on and plenty of it.
They use a ton of garlic in everything which I love, but be warned if you are not a fan of garlic.
Prices are a bit high, but the portions are generous and we even had leftovers for later, so I found it to be ok considering the quality as well.
Worth a stop while in the area!

Great service, reasonable prices, delicious food. My favorite is a well done pizza, but their spaghetti is pretty amazing too.

This is a excellent place for Pizza & I love all the cheese they put on there Pizza. Also all other types of Italian food they have to offer are great too! I really like their meat sauce. Their salads are very fresh very delicious. Wine list also very good for the foods they offer.
With that said I would like to mention that the Filippi’s in. Imperial Beach and Little Italy are the best!!!

This was my first visit at this location. It seemed okay when we first arrived. The host was friendly and said we can choose to sit anywhere we wanted. It didn’t seem too busy. There were people seated on their outside patio as we pulled up. When we entered, the restaurant looked empty. We were the only two people seated in one of their main rooms, until one of their off-​the-​clock employee’s decided to dine there with her friends.
I went here to satisfy my friend’s craving for lasagna. I forgot how big the portions are here.
Our server was nice, but didn’t check on us. The iced tea I ordered tasted bad. Must have been made with tap water or something. I ended up getting raspberry iced tea from their fountain drink machine instead. My friend had to find someone at the cashier’s desk to ask for a new drink. I ordered the chicken parmigiana that was served with spaghetti and meat sauce. It also came with minestrone soup and a garden salad. I should have asked for the Italian dressing on the side, since they doused my salad with too much dressing. After our food was delivered to our table, I decided not to eat off my plate and ask for a smaller plate and a to go container. I’ve been doing really well with my portion control and not overeat. I saw that our server was talking to her friend/​co-​worker at the other table. As she was heading toward the kitchen, I was able to flag her down and ask for the plate and container. That was the last time we saw her. She didn’t check on us to see if we needed anything else. When we were finished dining, we were still waiting for our server. We wanted to ask for another container for our bread. We ended up not waiting for her to check on us to see if we were done to deliver the bill. We had to walk up to the host desk/​cashier to pay. The cashier asked if we had the bill. We said our server didn’t check on us, so we didn’t get the bill. We saw that our server was sitting next to the cashier working on utensils. She got up and wrote up our bill. This was the poorest service I ever experienced at any Filippi’s location! I don’t plan to visit here again.

This was the first Filippi’s I’ve ever been to, and I’d rather go eat Italian food elsewhere. I sat outside for their dinner service since the weather was nice and it was so loud inside the restaurant. Service wasn’t too bad, just took awhile since it was busy. I had half ravioli and half lasagna plate. It looked like the cooks just got lazy on the presentation, and there was lots of cheese in the lasagna. I did, however, enjoyed the cannoli cake. Wasn’t as great as an actual cannoli, but it was pretty tasty. Overall, just not a fan of this place.

San Diegians know that not all Filippi’s are created equal. The undisputed «best» Filippi’s is in Little Italy and all other franchises go south to some degree. Imperial Beach, not really known for anything of importance, actually has one of the better restaurants in this chain. The Pizza was definitely spot on with a nice saltier pizza crust. Salad looked amazing and tasted good too. What’s really cool about this IB location is the ambiance inside and especially the outside (Warf themed exterior).

I’ve been to several of these restaurants. They have basically the same menu at each place. We love the vegetarian pizza and the antipasto salad. The salad is chucked full of good items. Olives, peppers one, cheese, meat, etc.
The service is always good. Can’t say enough good things about this place.

Always great food! This store has friendly staff and is dog friendly! Outdoor seating so dogs are welcome the staff even provided water for our pooch!
Oh yes! Just a couple of blocks from the beach so weather is perfect!

We stopped in during our vacation in Imperial Beach. It was recommended by the couple we rented our condo from.
It has a relaxed atmosphere, good service and reasonable prices. Here’s the rundown:
We (family of 4) got the Large Antipasto Salad. Waaaay too big for us. We maybe are half of it.
We then got a large ½ pepperoni pizza. I have a pic of a slice. It is crazily loaded with cheese. If you’re not a cheese lover, you’re in trouble.
It takes only 1 or 2 slices to get filled. You will have plenty to take home after.
So overall, good place. Good service. Good prices. Lots of food… But if you aren’t a cheese lover, you’ve been warned!

Cheese on top of cheese on top of cheese on top of carbs. That is not a cheese pizza, I swear there are a ton op topping underneath the pizza’s. The antipasto is gigantic. Come hungry, leave happy. Bring a small army or you will likely go home with a gang o’ leftovers. Did I not realize where I was before ordering a bunch of food? Yeah, I did but I didn’t care, I secretly wanted to have left overs. My fat ass was spooning the marinara sauce on top of my pizza! came hear right around the time of all the graduations so it was hella packed. It’s also waaay down there in I.b.

Their eggplant parmesan and cheese ravioli are really good. Pizza has a little too much cheese for my liking but some people like that. Service is excellent. Very friendly and pretty fast. We will be coming back.

Night and day contrast between this location and Little iItaly. The servers are there for themselves. 4 of them standing around joking around while no one checked on my order– salad and bread only.
After 25 minutes, I got my order and went to pay just a «$ 8.89». No greetings or apologies for the wait.
Ugh.

Try the super torpedo it is extremely important. If you love sandwiches. .do it. youll love it
If your in the mood for pizza. why not. worth it. the linguini clam pasta is amazing. white sauce.
If you have an appetite try the filippi family combo its has everything a man needs or women
If you enjoy wings. what are you waiting for. order them.
I could go on and on… dont forget to wash it all down with an ice cold brewski.

Always hear great things about Filippi’s. Came over straight from the beach to see what it was all about. The pineapple pizza is delicious but what really wowed me was the Lillian’s All White pizza (garlic mozzarella, olive oil, provolone) and added sautéed mushrooms. They lay the cheese on thick! Great flavor, not too messy and the crust is just right.
Nice sized place… Great space. Has a covered outdoor patio, and pretty good service. Good for friends and family as well.
Waitresses were sweet and helped a lot w/​menu suggestions.
They came back often to check our table and see if we needed anything. If you’re ever in the area and feeling Italian, stop by. You’ll enjoy it.

Of all the Filippi’s … This one sucks! Such a disappointment… My kids didn’t even eat it.
The antipasto salad was made of all white center pieces of ice berg and when I complained, my server informed me that they will be receiving their shipment tomorrow and… Wait for it… «Sorry about that.» Oh how I hate when people say that!!!
Then the pizza arrived… thin dry crust and toppings not evenly distributed. Just a total disappointment for over $ 30!!!
If you think I’m a typical whining complainer
, I am not… that’s what makes this review so Reliable. (Read my other reviews I am quite generous) I complained to the server, to the busser, to the cashier and nobody did anything. The funny thing is they seemed un-​phased by it which makes me believe this happens all the time.
