Have been going here since the early 80s and have always had a great meal and great service. Always get the enchiladas and usually have to take home half of my food. I like this place much better than LaFiesta of any of the chain Mexican places Margaritas are very good and I am sure they do not buy their sauces from Gordon Foods. Im surprised to see the negative reviews.

Okay, cheap«Meh-xican» food for small town people who don’t know the difference 30 miles could make!

Mixed feelings here. I like the food and location. Now on the drink and service aspect: If you draw the wrong bartender youll get weak mixed drinks… good flavored but weak. If you draw the right bartender youll do fine. Now about service at the bar. Another reviewer said it sucked. I have experienced that and can explain why i believe it occurs. Even on a friday or saturday evening during peak times they have 1 bartender where they need 2. That one bartender is making drinks for every single person in the place. They could have 65 people on a rush. The time it takes to return to bar patrons after their drink is empty… is poor. This is management being cheap and running the bartender ragged . There are Mexican Resturaunts EVERYWHERE and my wallet has GPS. In conclusion: Food good Prices good Drinks hit or miss Service at a table good Service at the bar during peak times… Needs improvement. SPRINTCELLSIGNAL Acceptable. Has WiFi

It’s not the best Mexican food, but it’s not the worst. The thing that bugs me is how out of all the Mexican restaurants I’ve been, this place has the worst chips n salsa. They don’t even make it theirselves, they probably just buy a big container at GFS or something. It sucks.

Another location I have been fortunate to have still open after decades of dining. I love the Carl’s Soft Taco. The thing has not changed in at least 30 years. It is even served on the same plates, with the same gravy, same everything. How many childhood favorites can you still get when you get old? This is one of them. For this, I cannot give less than five stars. I eat there several times a year and every time it is perfectly the way I have always remembered. The chips and salsa are just as good too. Carl’s, please never change.

Terrible service if you sit at the bar. Great if you enjoy the bartender yelling at you saying«your going to have to wait for service we are busy… You knew that when you sat at the bar!» Loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear.

Great Food & Service, great homemade salsa hotter than la fiesta, combo#3 was very good and my glass never got empty, would recommend to others and next time want to try the fish, perch or walleye, Great Job Carl’s

Best Mexican in a 20 mile radius, yes its generic Mexican food, but the salsa is the best around in even perhaps a greater radius. Its the best restaurant in town, but you have to consider the town. If you find yourself in ida and hungry you won’t be disappointed. I too, tho am bias, cause I’ve been going there since I was a child.

Carl’s is far from extraordinary or groundbreaking when it comes to Mexican food, but what it lacks in culinary genius it makes up for in consistency. The food is consistently big, fast, and just good enough. Not everything is a hit(try a combo platter to weed out particularly bland dishes), but it all goes down well with a margarita.

Boring, generic Mexican. It’s okay for what it is, but really nothing special in the wider world of Mexican food. It gets a bit of a bump as the local competition(Taco Bell, La Fiesta) are so much worse.

I’ve been going to Carl’s Hide-A-Way since I was five. If you’re trying to find wonderful hole in the wall mexican food, look no further. Divey and delicious.

I have been going here for years, nice little small town mexican resturant. Not sure what this last person is talking about? –Wait staff is pleasant, food is quick and tasty. Never had a complaint, for a family of 4 with adult drinks it was only $ 50

Some of the worst food I’ve ever had. I ordered the largest burrito on the menu, because I was so hungry, and ended up taking it home and throwing it directly in the the trash. If you like unseasoned meat in your Mexican dishes, this is the place to go. No wonder this place is hidden away… they’re embarrassed to be found.
