As a Jamaican in the city, finding authentic food has proven to be a serious undertaking. That being said, I’ve only stopped in once, and had their oxtail. It was very tasty, could have been slightly more tender, but I was impressed overall. Great portion size for the price and the people are great. I will return

The food here is amazing! The joint is small and you will miss it if you’re not scanning the parking lot where the McDonalds and Popeyes is. Andy’s is the spot in between RawwwwwwNation and the Boost mobile store. I had the oxtails, cabbage, and rice and peas… and a beef patty. A little expensive. I ordered two of everything listed and it was $ 27.00+\_. BUT, it was worth it!!!

Food was good, customer service great. The cabbage is REALLY good. I got the jerk chicken and was good. The plantains were amazing, very fresh. The best I’ve had in a long time. The thing I loved was the CLEANLINESS. You can see the kitchen and it is CLEAN!!! Everything was neat and they take pride in their establishment regardless of their location. I hope they do well. We need more black owned places to eat at. I’m tired of all the Asian carry outs getting all the profits for lackluster, don’t care about us food.

Disclaimer: Reviewer was born in Jamaica and raised in a home where he ate nothing but Jamaican food for the first 22 years of his life The Good: It’s extremely difficult to find authentic Jamaican in the DMV, and I’m so happy I found Andy’s. Thus far I’ve tried the Jerk Pork, Ox Tail, Stew Peas, and a Beef Patty with Cocoa Bread. The highlight for me has been the Jerk Pork, which I’ve ordered twice now. It’s perfectly seasoned to be spicy enough where you remember you’re eating Jamaican Jerk but not so spicy that people who aren’t accustomed to Jamaicans’ heavy handedness with pepper can’t eat. I’ve only had the plain Beef Patty(wife ordered it and doesn’t realize that Spicy is the only way to order a beef patty) and it was predictably bland, but I think that’s more a plain Beef Patty issue than an Andy’s issue. The cocoa bread was solid. The Ox Tail was good, not great as the meat could have been more tender, but all the flavor was there. Probably the best thing about Andy’s is the serving sizes. So, while it’s technically $$ by strict Unilocal standards, don’t pay attention to that. I’m the type of person that will order a large pizza and eat the entire thing in one sitting because I’m too lazy to even think about the leftover storage and reheating process(and also because fat). That said, a normal human being can easily make 2 meals out of their regular entrees and 3 meals out of the large. So, I ate my regular meal in 1 sitting and made 2 meals out of the large. Oh, and while cabbage is a staple side of Jamaican meals, I hate it, so I always substitute extra plantains as a side. While the plantains aren’t always as ripe as I like them, it’s nice that they don’t make a big deal out of the change and they are still pretty good. I look forward to working my way through the rest of the menu. The Bad: The Stew Peas isn’t very good. While I’ve only had it once, it wasn’t nearly salty enough and the color of the stew was off. This is a dish that many places don’t even attempt(much to my disappointment since it is 1 of my 3 favorite Jamaican dishes: Jerk Pork, Stew Peas, Mackerel Rundown in some order), so I appreciate the effort but the execution was off. Also, the location isn’t great for a couple reasons.

Delicious Jamaican food and close to home = A+ Delivery for food $ 30+ = A++ Reasonable prices = A+++ Superb customer service = A++++ I finally decided to give Andy’s a try and boy am I glad I did! Here’s a rundown of what I ordered; Dinners are served with cabbage, red beans and rice Large oxtail dinner($ 13.50) — Good portion, seasoned well, VERY tender, like fall off the bone and. well you get the point! LOL it was really good! Large order of jerk wings($ 11.50) — Meat was tender, chicken wasn’t overcooked, wingettes and drumettes not chunks of chicken where you spend majority of your time picking bones. Jerk seasoning was great! Beef patties($ 2.25) — I don’t think they are made in house(will stand corrected if I find out otherwise) BUT they were fresh and delicious! The dinners came with cabbage, red beans and rice and plantain. Everything was really good. Kudos to the owner for personally delivering my order within 30 minutes of me placing my order! I’ll be ordering again real soon!

The jerk pork was good. The service was excellent. I am a picky foodie and I cook all the same food from scratch myself. I got the jerk pork and oxtail stew. The jerk had very good flavor and for the most part was tender. The oxtail stew had nice seasonings and spice, but it was not tender. It could have been cooked longer and then it would have been tender and I would have given 5 stars instead of 4. The portions are very generous, so I believe the value rating should be 1 dollar sign and not 2. I plan on coming back :-) As Jeanette P. stated in her review there is limited seating(a couple tables), so plan on carryout.

Got a chance to try this place out through a Groupon offer recently. I was very pleased and will return in the future. The ingredients are fresh and the food is tasty. The jerk chicken took me back to a couple of Jamaican vacations. I also had the shrimp curry with rice and peas and it was full of good flavors. Both the chicken and beef patties were tasty and spicy, but not overly spicy. The portions are decent and since I didn’t eat all of my goodies immediately, the spices did kick up a notch the next day. Fine with me, but if spicy isn’t your thing, I am sure the owners/chefs will be happy to take it down a bit for you. My next visit will have to include the ginger pineapple juice. and some more jerk chicken. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a bite!

Delicious and authentic Jamaican food! I wanted to order everything on the menu, but I was only in town for the weekend. I had the curry shrimp with rice and peas, jerk chicken, rum cake(mmm…) and the pineapple ginger juice(wish i had it by the gallon). The jerk chicken was cooked on a grill/smoker so it was very authentic!(unlike those places that just throw jerk sauce on chicken). Andy’s is generous with their portions so you will definitely get your belly full and your money’s worth. Space is tight on tables so I recommend carry out. I loved the bright yellow interior and photos of Jamaica on the walls. The food was SO good, I took some home on the plane with me. Can’t wait to go back!
