Mr. Cao Japaneese Steakhouse

I was pleasantly surpised.
One is always a bit leery of sushi in a rural town. This is in central Kansas so just about as far away as you can get from the ocean.
The décor was bright and clean and fairly simple. We were seated in the bar area with a view of the kitchen and the Sushi bar.
Staff were friendly and as the restaurant was almost emply, we had our choice of seats.
The menu has a LOT of options with the two main areas being Sashmi/​rolls and Tappenyaki. We started off with Tuna Tataki to sample while having a drink. It was delicious. The Tuna was fresh and very tender and the sauce was sweet/​salty and a nice balance to the fish.
I ordered the «Kiss Roll» a lovely composition of Tuna and celery rolled in a thin laye of rice topped off with avacado and a mound of shredded crab. It was mopst excellent. The flavors and textures blended nicely and there was not the usual sauces and foo foo additions that take away from the fish. It was not a lot to eat for $ 12.00, but with the bowl of chicken broth soup (rich and flavorful) it was a nice meal. I probably could have eaten another roll or sampled some of the sashimi, but decided to not overdo it.
The sevice, while friendly, was a bit uneven. Things did not come out in a smooth order and there seemed to be no coordination among staff so things were hurry up and wait during the whole meal.
I would recommend this restaurant and would eat here again if in the area. It is always nice when a place exceeds my expectations.

The food here is incredible. My favorite is the vegetable rice. The chicken soup it comes with is also very good. They have a great selection of sushi as well. The décor isn’t too bad but the staff is very friendly. I don’t understand why this place isn’t more crowded.

If you love sushi or even if you don’t, this place is excellent. They have two sauces for steak etc. hibachi and teriyaki. Dinner is a little pricey but not unreasonable but lunch is a great deal. They really need to promote themselves more because they are tucked away next to Freddie’s and many will drive by without seeing them. My favorite is salmon and steak or salmon and chicken with a California roll. Yum!!!

This was my first time here and I was delighted to find good Asian food in Hutchinson. The chicken soup was very good… really, really piping hot, I would have preferred it a bit cooler. The dumpling appetizer was very fresh and the sauce was great. I ordered shrimp tempura sushi roll. It was good. Not the best sushi I have ever had, but will definitely return when I am in the area. Service was great! Some other reviews mentioned poor service. I did not have that experience. Very polite, timely, and accommodating.

The food is always so good. Everything seems to be fresh. Prices are within reason. The service is good for the most part. You can’t go wrong checking this place out.

I’m so happy hutch finally has a good Japanese restaurant the prices are on par with any other sushi place with quality food you would come across. The noodles are excellent, tasty steaks, and great assortment of sushi. Keep this place busy it’s a nice fresh alternative to greasy burgers and fries!

Nicer restaurant in Hutch. Sort of a special occasion place. The sushi pieces were large and sake hot. The Japanese grill beef dishes were a bit over-​priced.

I have posted a review and have said good things about Mr. Caos, but for some reason it states its not recommened. The good and service is great. I tell my co-​workers to try it. I love the chicken soup. I could eat it every day! Please post this review. People need to support this place so it stays.

We were there on a Friday night and had a very nice dinner. Food was very good. The service was great. The atmosphere was excellent, with a nice little jazz band playing.
One caution: Watch the soup and noodles if you’re MSG sensitive. If you’re concerned, I’d simply ask before ordering.

Had a great dinner at this new restaurant. Good selection of entrées and appetizers. We really liked it because it was authentic, the food came out in a timely manner, and it tasted great. The prices are a little higher but with the quantity and quality of food served, you get what you pay for. I will definitely go back again.

VERY VERY SLOW! When mentioned it to the manager (I believe) she said «yes, we just got slammed and we weren’t ready for it.» We arrived at 8 pm, most of the tables were full but they were eating already. We waited about 10 minutes for a table there were 7 of us so we have to wait for a bigger table. It took about an hour for our food. Soup and salad came out quickly but that is brought by the server. There is only one cook and he works on one ticket at a time so that is why we found out it took so long.
Do no sit by the windows. They have a storm walkway entrance however it isn’t enclosed so the cold air comes in through the sides where it isn’t enclosed.
The food was pretty good though. I have had better but this is decent food in Hutchinson. The food I would give about 3.5 stars and the service is about a 2.
If the speed and service doesn’t pick up they will not last long!
