I was so excited to eat at Schlotzsky’s. I live in West Virginia and hadn’t been back to the Rocket City for years. I always purchased the Ham and Cheese Original. I bought four of them so I could have them for later. When I bit into the first one I was very disappointed. I opened the sandwich up and to my amazement, there was 2 pieces of flat ham… also the lettuce used to be shredded. They use to pile the ham on! It is obvious the new owners of this Schlozskys are raking in the profits for they are lacking in substance. They just aren’t like the sandwiches you used to buy. In my opinion, find another store. The one on University Drive won’t be in business long with that kind of «cheap».

First time at a Schlotzsky’s… and last. Drive through service was friendly; she forgot to take off my 75-cent coupon, buy fixed it. I ordered a medium homestyle tuna and a potato bacon soup. I’m not sure I can use the term«bread»… I’d never experienced anything like it. The circular roll was about 6 inches in diameter and 3 inches high. I opened it up to see the fillings and there was VERY little. Super skimpy. One bite and I had a mouthful of the most bizarrely textured«bread» and not much else. It was airy to the max. Chernobyl freaky airy. I took the larger top piece and held it, and it was nearly weightless. The 2-inch-thick top piece had probably 1,000 visible air holes. Bread has substance. This airy disaster is not bread. The little tuna was chunky and good quality, way too much sauce(I call it that because if it were mayo, it would have flavor… And this had no flavor. I couldn’t see or taste any seasoning on the tuna or sandwich. One lettuce leaf, super thinly sliced tomato, and one slice of onion. Is this really how Mr. S. created his chain? I suddenly have a massive urge to go to New York City for a proper sandwich.(Ok, not realistic… Firehouse Subs remains my fave here in Huntsville.) The small portion of soup was bland. Just 1 tiny piece of bacon. Desperately needed seasoned. Tasted like it came out of a jar. That was $ 10 wasted… And I’m still hungry. Next time, Firehouse Subs.

The food wasn’t great. I normally like to eat healthy so southern fast food wasn’t what the Dr. ordered. Pretty bland and too much sauce/mayo.

Schlotzsky’s is always consistent and delicious. The dining area is clean, and tidy every visit. Because each sandwich is made to order, when it is really busy, there is a short but reasonable wait, but it is well worth it. I highly recommend the Cheese Soup and the Texas Schlotzsky.

This is the kind of food that once you’ve tried it you’ll crave it. With their special breads and melty cheese, there’s no other sandwich in town quite like it.
