Rolo’s Cafe

This place has never disappointed me! Our office has ordered from there several times & it is delicious EVERY time! actually ordering from there today :) absolutely recommend it for some good ol fashioned southern cooking! :)

One of our favourite spots in Huntsville for southern food. Had our pre-​wedding dinner here and have returned several times over the years. Took our friend who had just moved from Japan and she enjoyed catfish for the first time. A must-​go when ever visiting Huntsville.

Good old southern dinner. The service is always great, we are usually the youngest people in there by 30 – 40 years. The chicken fried steak and eggs is great and the biscuit and chocolate gravy is great.

My husband and I decided to try this place after purchasing a Groupon. I had the meatloaf, and he had a burger. Both were great, and we left stuffed! Our server was also very nice, and the food came out quickly.

Country fried steak very good, a little thin and pepper gravy a little watery, but turnip greens and mashed potatoes and gravy were delicious! Plus lightning-​fast service … Will come again!

Laid back atmosphere. Kids loved the toy train suspended from the ceiling. Food warms the soul and sticks to your ribs. I had the meatloaf. The rolls are awesome. Prices are very reasonable.

It’s been over six months since we’ve been to Rolo’s Café, we dropped in today for a late lunch. I ordered a Country Fried Steak with a side of mashed potatoes and Mac & Cheese. My fiancée ordered a Country Fried Steak also, but with side of Turnip Greens as well as the mashed potatoes. Food was tasty, but I did notice the portion size was not as plentiful as it had been on our previous trip.
So why the downgrade from 4 Stars to 3 Stars? One word — service. Our waitress (she never did introduce herself, and her name was not on our bill), was not the most courteous person we’ve ever met. She seemed to be in a rush to get us going (we did have one of the shortest lunches ever, from start to finish). Never asked us how everything was, or if we wanted dessert. She did ask if we wanted some «drinks to go», but by that time, we were just ready to go.
The cashier at the counter wasn’t much better. Seemed to have some type of attitude. Well sorry Rolo’s, your food is good, but there are a lot of other choices in HSV. We don’t intend to come back. A disappointing updated review — a weak 3 Stars.

Great food every time. It’s a winner.

I go to Rolo’s for one thing… fried whole fried catfish. Always great! Best price in town. I seek out restaurants that cook whole catfish. Rolo’s is the best in Huntsville for quality and price.

I started visiting Rolo’s shortly after they opened, but I haven’t had a reason to visit Huntsville (my hometown) in many years.
My mother, our friend and I met at Rolo’s tonight. Our friend had a hamburger and onion rings. My mother had chicken and dressing, fried okra, mashed potatoes and gravy. I had the small whole catfish plate with slaw, pinto beans and hushpuppies (was so excited! Where in Atlanta can you find whole catfish? Maybe Mary Mac’s, but I can’t remember.
We all enjoyed our food. My fish was perfectly cooked, the slaw was some of the best I’ve ever had and the pintos were also perfect. Our server, Debbey, was the best. She was so cool and sweet.
Rolo’s should put fried green tomatoes back on the menu. I remember when they were a very popular item.
Even though I paid, they gave me the senior citizen discount since I was with my very elderly mother and her friend, who is a senior citizen.
I wish they had been running the little train around the restaurant :(

For service, I give ‘em four and a half. Sam and others took excellent care of us. Food quality: three and a half. However, they’re very fast, and very popular.

This place is a great local place to grab a meal. Southern home cooking in good portions. They even have a train on a track that hangs from the ceiling, although it wasn’t running while I was there. The crowd is definitely on the older side, probably because of the very reasonable prices.
I had pulled chicken on top of cornbread stuffing, smothered with giblet gravy. It was very tasty, as were the greens. The service was very attentive, even though they were pretty busy. I’d definitely return next time I’m in town.

I bought a groupon for this place and went to check it out for the first time last week and have since gone back and bought another one! This places is awesome. It looks like a new restaurant maintenance wise as far as the dining room. I didn’t check out the bathroom but I will next time and edit or post again. As for the service, couldn’t be better and our waitress even brought us a large sample of the collard casserole to try. The food was all wonderful, homemade with the exception of the fried okra but I understand that since that’s a time consuming item and the kind you get is pretty good… I would love to just once get actual fresh fried okra somewhere but this seems to be the norm pretty much everywhere. As for the prices, again, cant beat them. Homemade blackberry cobbler for a buck and a half! I’m really glad they offered the groupon deal so I could discov er them.

Great «down home» place, locally owned, traditional southern «home» dishes, reasonable prices. Every dish I’ve tried is excellent: meat loaf, pot roast, fried catfish, chicken fried steak, chicken fingers, chopped steak… If you’re looking for home cooking, here it is!

So this was my first trip to Rolo and I have to say it has been pretty good. I like their home cooked inspired menu items. I ordered the half hickory chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and potato salad. (I like starch). The Chicken was crispy on the outside, tender, juicy and flavorful on the inside. It was true to it’s name «Hickory Chicken «. The hickory flavor really came through. The sides were good as well. The potato salad was properly balanced and seasoned. The mashed potatoes and gravy were no different. I was also glad to see small pieces of potato in there which means these were not instant. The cornbread tastes and has the texture of homemade, so I will say it seems that they made it from scratch. The staff was very prompt and I got my drink order within 20 seconds of being seated. They were very friendly knowledgable and attentive. My sweet tea never got below half a glass. I look forward to coming back to try more of their menu. I also like the fact that they are open until 9:00 PM. Good job guys!

My partner and I love Rolo’s. I lived in Huntsville eight years before trying it, and eventually got a groupon and figured «why not?»
I’ve been missing out! The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, and the service is awesome! Until recently, certain plates were only available on certain days. Now «Every day is special» so I don’t have to wait until Tuesday when the Country Fried Steak is on the menu to come in. We’ve tried lots of specials there and the hamburger, which you can tell is handmade, is great. Just tried their seasonal pumpkin cheesecake and it is absolutely to die for! I don’t usually eat pie crusts but this was homemade and done right so I enjoyed every bite. The service is friendly and a train track bolted to the wall circles the center of the restaurant. My guy loves it. I think he likes it better than the kids do. It being a local business is also important to me.

One of the many good places to eat southern food. it is very good. My favorite day to go is Friday when they have the catfish plate on special. One thing i will say that sometimes the catfish size portion can be a bit small. But overall the ambiaence is great and the food delicious.

Rolo’s is an iconic little restaurant on Airport Road with a laid back, railroad-​themed décor and friendly Southern hospitality. They have meat-​and-​three options, as well as stand-​alone entrees (the ½ chicken is a great choice!) and sides. Typical of these establishments they have rotating daily specials that augment the menu standards.
The meal prices are reasonable, delicious and filling – solid qualities for a good meat-​and-​three place. The cornbread and rolls are good, as are the cobblers. If apple cobbler is on the menu, you definitely need to tack that on to your meal!

I’ve been to Rolo’s three or four times in the past year. One of those times was right after eating at the Blue Plate Café and I thought they must be related since the menus are identical. As my sister suggested, it might be that they use the same company to prepare the menus, but it still felt a little creepy.
Any way… the staff and food are just as good here as at BPC, but I’ve never had to wait to get a table at Rolo’s — and Rolo’s has longer hours of operation (woo hoo!).
Okay, the model train that cruises near the ceiling is a bonus!
