I eaten here 3 times within the last 9 months. Beautiful venue, great service, very average food.

As diners with reservations, your competing with wedding receptions if your here on a Saturday evening as we were. Parking issues and limited access to the building is your penalty as a diner. In fact, you can only climb the steep, narrow, rickety back stairs to the dining room, eat in the dining room, and hopefully use a restroom that happens to be available to wedding guests. But the restroom issue will soon change as a restroom is now being built near the dining room to keep the diners away from the main reception area, and away from the historic rooms. There are many rooms at the Oheka such as sitting rooms, libraries, etc. Should you dare hazard a look or step into one, you will be shewed away by security. Don’t come here with the hope to see some of the Oheka before or after dinner, because you won’t. As to our food. The duck I ordered was presented and looked like two large cuts of puffed up loins of pork. I have never seen duck like this. Upon slicing into one of the«duck» breasts, it was solid grey inside. Both of them were the same. I thought I was on tv bloopers, so outrageously poor was the preparation. I returned them, and tried again. Same inexplicable size, but this time they both had a quarter inch of rareness inside, surrounded by solid grey. Both versions were totally inedible. The other entrée ordered was the soft shell crabs These were prepared with the worst tasting and looking batter ever. Thick, tasteless, bitter, and very very dark brown batter, we could barely find the crab. Dessert was an overly heavy brownie thing and not edible, and ice cream. I somehow get the feeling that being open for dinner and lunch is just a joke the ownership is playing on us. Here, wedding receptions are where the money and the focus is, and our dinner is likely being prepared by the parking lot attendants as an afterthought. You now know why the word Bar is before the word Restaurant in their name. They are unknowingly warning you before you even get there.

Went to Oheka for Mother’s day dinner wanting to view the venue and enjoy the ambiance but not expecting the food to be outstanding. I was delighted to find the food surpassed the décor. The crabcake appetizer was a symphony of huge chunks of crab seasoned and lightly sauteed. My cioppino was slightly spicy and very rich in broth and all the seafood including lobster one could wish. Comments from others at the table on the lobster meatballs, seafood salad, lamb chops and sea bass and the desserts were all superlatives. Throughly enjoyable.

Had lunch yesterday and was pleasantly surprised over the luncheon menu and restaurant atmosphere… fantastic. I had the seafood salad and my eating partners had the grilled Samson which was prepared perfectly. So nice touches included extra large ice cube for my JAck Daniels. Great views. Reasonable pricing. Good service. PS: going back tomorrow

Best kept secret on LI. Historic Mansion with sprawling grounds, French Gardens, beautiful artwork and comfortable spaces. The bar is ample with numerous comfortable seats. Two separate dining areas, each w comfy seating. The best ambience on the island. Excellent food. Great staff. The owner, Gary is a great guy. Outdoor seating for an after dinner cocktail or sit in the nicest library to relax. If you’ve had a few too many, check into one of the 32 guest rooms.

Good for those that write rave reviews for this O’Hype’ka place. Dont come for the ‘Hype’ of seeing the castle because thats exactly what they want you to do. Spend your money in the Bar and restaurant and they dont care if you come back. With this kind of attitude in providing service it is consistent of arrogant and rude. Obviously by now you’re wondering what’s the problem this guy Experienced. Came here for Easter for first time with my wife and daughter for lunch. My wife and daughter’s plate were dry and No seasoning on the meat. We voiced our dissatisfaction and got a stared down from the manager Jason. The young waitress Bridgitte was told the plate was not good but no accommodation from her either. The ‘hype’ is the castle definitely NOT the service, food or ambience. There are many places that listen to customers and respond with accommodating gestures. This place knows people come for the Castle experience but doesn’t care if you back for the food or not. I will glad grant them my wish. So if you wish to to have a bad experience with your food and service go for it.

Went for dinner on a Saturday night. Place has a great reputation and delightful location… staff is very friendly and attentive, but several things make this from becoming a «must go» destination: * Décor is nice but somewhat cold in feeling. The stark tile floors take away from glamour of the locale, let alone the eerie hallways and stairs you navigate to find the place * Appetizer was served still cold on the inside — staff corrected the mistake gracefully * Unimaginative entrée menu options * Fish served raw on the inside * Filet mignon was a poor cut of meat and drowned in a sweet glaze — a sure sign of lack of imagination and confidence in the quality of the product * No blue cheese dressing? Just vinaigrette choices? Very nice dessert options, great bread and a nice evening, but nothing to wow the patron to want to return. Would want to see the menu stepped up for the price a meal costs there.

Great place. Beautiful setting. Nice staff. Would love to see this place in the summer time. But it was differently a winter wonderland. Had lunch here for Valentine’s Day. It was perfect. Clean. Food was awesome and well selected menu. Had a great time. You must visit !!! Must make reservations tho. This place attracts a crowd!

Had our family thanksgiving brunch at the castle and It was quiet an experience! We tried mostly the recommended dishes on the menu and food was great! The turkey dinner was my fave — it had a little bit of what it should have: greens, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, spinach and thinly sliced turkey that was flavorful and cooked right. The view was Picturesque, we ran out and had our pictures taken at the grounds. Inside interiors were grand and beautiful as well that We spent more hours having pictures taken than our actual meal! Sadly we didn’t get to do the castle tour since it was a busy holiday-Make sure to do this when you visit!

Food is amazing and restaurant staff very friendly. People at the office /entrance are extremely rude and act like security guard at prison than a service professional. Awesome atmosphere and wonderful ambience with beautiful view.

I was here for a wedding about 3.5 years ago and had no idea this place has a restaurant. Anyway, we decided to celebrate my dad’s 60th birthday here with a nice lunch. Nothing beats the picturesque view of the castle in all it’s magnificent glory. That definitely added to the ambiance. We purposely got there early so we could walk around and take in the breath-taking property. But our ability to wander around was somewhat limited due to the fact that there was wedding going on at the same time. When we finally sat down, we were promptly greeted by our server taking our drink and appetizer orders. The presentation of our food was wonderful but I would give the taste about 3.5 stars. It was good but given the location, I guess I expected better. For me, I had some of the calamari and duck spring rolls as an appetizer. The calamari was good so nothing to complain about there. And the duck spring rolls were just okay. Come on, I’m Chinese — I know what good spring rolls are supposed to taste like :). The rest of my family had similar sentiments so I know it wasn’t just me. For my main dish, I ordered the Otto burger(medium), and when it came out, there wasn’t a single bit of pink inside. Luckily, it was still juicy and caramelized onions really helped give it some good flavor. Also, my fries tasted like there were left in the fryer too long because they had an unusually hard crunch to them. And again, given that you’re inside this historic landmark, I feel they can easily charge you an arm and a leg for the food but overall, it found it to be reasonably priced. I would love to try this place again but I got to try to find a day when there isn’t a wedding!

I wasn’t aware this place had a restaurant open to the public until more recently when I was invited to dine here with some friends for a Sunday afternoon lunch. Service was excellent. Food was delicious, well seasoned(definitely not too salty!) and they offered good portion sizes. The lunch was definitely a lot more reasonably priced then I anticipated(around 15 $ for a chicken sandwich prepared in a unique way, that came with an abundant amount of delicious french fries). To top off a very pleasant, classy lunch experience, we were allowed to walk around inside and out for a little while as well.

Want to immerse yourself into the lifestyle from the Great Gatsby? Or don’t have time to visit your Château in France? No fret, this turn of the century American Movement Chateauesque home(thank you Wikipedia) is your answer. The moment you arrive at the entrance, you feel like an American Royalty and may mistakenly call your wife Miffy while looking for your valet(not the parking attendant) to carry your tall hat. At over 20 acres, Oheka Castle is one of largest private homes in the US. A quick search online can tell you the history and what this castle has gone through. You’ll truly appreciate the painstaking efforts Mr. Melius has undertaken to restore this beautiful home to its current state. While mostly it is used for wedding and banquets, there is a restaurant and bar just to left of the courtyard that caters to the public. There’s also an outdoor casual seating area next to the bar where you can sip scotch while smoking your cigar/pipe. The food though not Michelin star quality, is very very good. And the entire staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Don’t be surprised when Mr. Melius owner of the castle stops by and welcomes you to his home. It’s refreshing when someone of his stature is humble and down to earth. Classy move Mr. Melius. Please do call ahead in case the restaurant bar area is closed for special events.

My mother, aunt, cousin and I came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Although I live in the area, I had never visited, and so at first, approaching the closed, imposing gates on West Gate Drive, I thought the place was closed. But no, like the wizard of Oz, a woman appeared from seemingly nowhere, asked my business and proceeded to open the gates. It was a little strange being in my Honda Civic, the only car on the drive approaching the Gatsby-esque manor, a valet popping up. I wanted to say, «you do realize, I’m here to get a salad?» The restaurant is in the house itself, and to get there you mosy past incredibly lavish rooms like the library, which interestingly have pictures of what Oheka looked like before it was restored to its former glory after a period of being in disrepair. We chose to sit outside overlooking a grand lawn. Very picturesque and romantic. Definitely a date spot for trying to impress someone! The others seated seemed stuffy and pretentious(no one was speaking, but tapping on their phones), which gave a bad vibe, but thankfully the waitress was friendly and non-snooty, at the same time maintaining the classy atmosphere. The menu was very nice and diversified – unlike other high-end places, it wasn’t all small furry creatures. There were summery salads, pastas, as well as full entrees, sandwiches, soups, all priced reasonably for the location. The wine list was extensive. We were brought a basket of buttered, toasted bread with a side of gorgonzola cheese confection… although I’m vegan, the others seemed to enjoy. My spinach salad was very aesthetically pleasing, with fuji apples, dried cherries, sunflower seeds and an interesting strawberry vinagrette. Although they offered desserts like berries and cream and cakes, we settled for coffee and cappuccino. The waitress was attentive yet gave us ample time to talk without rushing us. Afterwards because there was no wedding, we got to stroll the grounds practically to ourselves. A nice treat if you’re on Long ISland to get a sense of the«Gold Coast» without going broke.

OMG. Warmly welcomed by the owner, sat immediately by a window with a picturesque view. Most delicious spirits that were chilled to perfection. Salads were crisp and served on cold plates. Main course was absolutely delightful to the palate. Desserts were superb. We actually sat outside for after dinner cordials and dessert. A must try! LOVEIT and will be back.

I love visiting mansions and«american castles» so I booked a room at Oheka’s for a night and decided to try their restaurant. The interior is awesome — upscale and classy, while retaining the historic architecture. We decided to sit outside, which overlooked an enclosed courtyard and the parking lot. The parking lot wasn’t the best view, but the weather was awesome. From the start, service was horrible(maybe because we were outside?). It took 10 mins to get our drink order in, and another 5 – 10 mins to get our drinks. Although, Gary(owner) came by and introduced himself, which is a huge plus. He also offered to buy me a drink(more on that later). We were started with bread and a delicious dipping sauce/soup. Not sure what it was, but it was creamy and delicious! For appetizers, we ordered the Lobster Meatballs(Lobster, Shrimp and Herbs Lightly Breaded and served with Lobster Bisque Dipping Sauce) and Burrata Mozzarella(Served with Sliced Beefsteak Tomatoes, Marinated Artichoke Hearts, Roasted Red Peppers, and Balsamic Reduction). Both were excellent! Really enjoyed the Lobster Meatballs, something different and creative, yet packed with flavor. For my entrée I ordered the Pistachio Crusted Lamb Chops(Two 6 oz. Valley Farms Porterhouse Chops with Pistachio Crust, Potato Medallions, Kale, and Pomegranate Yogurt Sauce). I never heard of porterhouse lamb chops, I usually order the lollipop chops. Just like a steak, one side was a tenderloin filet the other a strip. The filet was absolutely delicious! The strip was a little tough, but that’s too be expected. I really enjoyed the lam chops and potatoes — the kale was different and tasty, but not my favorite side. My girlfriend ordered the Stuffed Shrimp(Jumbo Prawns, Lump Crab Meat Stuffing, Lobster Bisque, Rice, and Kale) which were ok. Sadly, the shrimp didn’t have the best flavor, and her kale had a funky taste. We were disappointed with this entrée. Service was spotty the entire time, but what got me most frustrated was the amount of time it took to get our check, then pay. After waiting 15 mins, I took the check indoors and paid at the bar. I had to look around for a pen to sign the check. Also, it seems Gary’s offer for a free drink wasn’t reflected on the bill. But at this point, I just wanted to leave — I didn’t feel like waiting longer to have someone fix the bill. This is a really awesome place, and most of the items we ordered were absolutely delicious, but service really needs to improve.

Overall I thought it was a great experience. I went there with my family to celebrate my birthday and the hostess Amy was absolutely delightful. She was very friendly and helped us take pictures. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for all the staff members. There was another lady waiting on our table who was rude and appeared to hate her job as she would arbitrarily place our plates on the table and make loud noises while clearing tables. On a brighter note, the place is beautiful and you can explore the water fountains in the back of the castle. I would suggest ordering the calamari, lobster balls and bruschetta. As far as sandwiches go, I didn’t really like them. I ordered the steak one and the broccoli rabe was very hard to chew through. The vegetable ravioli was okay. So definitely get the appetizers! The bathroom is also beautiful with the walls and ceilings painted. You can get to the courtyard through the study room. The back door is unlocked.

First time here with the immediate family to celebrate Jamie’s birthday, the grounds are gorgeous, the restaurant is very beautiful and upscale, our waitress amy is very knowledgeable and attentive, her service has been on point. The appetizers, main course and dessert were delicious, the owner also came by to greet and thank us for our stay there! How thoughtful!

Wow this place is unbelievable! Everything about the place is grand! My first time here, and it was great! I never knew the restaurant opened at noon for lunch so me and my cohort decided to give it a try. Upon entering inside the castle, there are two grand stair cases, leading to a set of wooden doors. I thought we were in a movie! We were greeted by one of the friendly staff who directed us to the restaurant. After making a couple of lefts, we were in the right place . We were greeted by Annie, who turned out to be our server. She was friendly and knowledgeable. And we loved her recommendations! We started out with the lobster balls, with the bisque dip. OMG!!! They were delish! We rarely see pig in a blankets on a menu for an appetizer, so we indulged in that as well. It came with a grain mustard, grey poupon, and guldens mustard. Now for the main course! Keep in mind these two entrées Annie said were REALLY good! I had the sea bass sicilia. It was sea bass with lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams, and served with cous-cous. All was delicious! My cohort had the summer grilled swordfish. It came with jasmine rice, sesame green beans, and a cucumber melon salsa. You can NOT go wrong with either entrée! After having the entrées we were greeted by Gary, who sweetly said«welcome to my home». Such a nice sweet man! Then Annie came back and asked us the most silliest question. «Do we have room for dessert?!». LoL, she doesn’t know us very well, haha. We went with her recommendation of the flourless molten chocolate cake. WoWie! Boy were we sorry we decided to share! All in all I highly recommend this place. The food is great, the views are spectacular, the staff is friendly, and the ambiance is exquisite! On a side note. We found out that there are also tours of the castle starting at 11 am. There are also two options. The first costs $ 25 per person for the tour. The second option is $ 50 per person for the tour, and includes a two course lunch! If you have never been here make it a point to visit! You will not be disappointed!
