Great spot with phenomenal cheese — both the selection and quality cannot be beat. We tried out their wine/cheese/small plates spot on Main Street after meeting the owner and while there were talking about cheese. I kept talking about a cheese I had recently tried and the owner disappeared and then came back with a piece and to let me know they had it here. So we walked around the corner and got it. Also some Manchego. Knowledgeable cheese mongers with a good selection, willing to make suggestions, etc. It’s hard to say a lot about a cheese shop since it’s a fairly limited thing but this place is definitely THE place to go when you need some nice cheeses.

Such a tiny, tiny place! I’m talking about the shop, not the actual sit-down café or restaurant. The young lady behind the cheese counter really knew her cheeses, offered tastings, cut an wrapped every carefully and lovingly. It really does feel as if you are strolling down a street in Europe somewhere and buying some cheese to have with your wine and fruit as you sit and chat with a friend. Lovely!

Bummer! We were so excited to try the wings here but were really disappointed! The skin of the wings(and we tried several kinds) were rubbery and soft. Definitely not what you want in a chicken wing. Also, I expected something special, more towards thin crispy«French» style fries with a name like«pommes frites». Again a bummer. They were thick-cut soggy diner fries. So sad. The blue cheese to dip the wings was straight out of a Kraft dressing bottle… not a single lump of real blue cheese in the container. We did like the crispy kale side and the flavor of the Italian wings, but couldn’t choke more than one pale, rubbery one down. You can get better wings at any bar in town. :(

Probably some of the worst buffalo wings I have ever had. They were meaty, yes, but the buffalo sauce was atrocious. They didn’t even give me blue cheese… disappointing for sure.

Yet another Fry House, boasting Pommes Frites. This always catches my attention. I was eager to try their myriad of sauces and some of the other dishes. We started with the Pommes Frites, which came out perfectly. I was a bit disappointed they did not have the Traditional Euro sauce, but the Aioli was nothing short of spectacular! We also went on the less creamy side with the Pomegranate Teriyaki — sweet, fruity, tangy — a perfect pairing! Since they are associated with a Fromagerie, one would expect some dishes to incorporate a nice blend of obscurity and familiarity. I found that in the Macaroni and Cheese Croquettes! Parking is typical of Huntington Village — disastrous on a Friday evening or weekend. C’est la vie!

Why did the human cross the street? To go to the chicken wing place. Ha ha ha. On a serious note, what a gem Ideal Wings & Pommes Frites is!!! It is the take out part of the new Ideal Wine and Cheese Café(equally as yum). When I saw the sign go up for this place, I had butterflies in my stomach — literally. In my opinion, most of the wings in Huntington Village are no bueno, with a few exceptions of course. I figured that this new place would hold me over until I got to the mecca of chicken wings — Buffalo Wild Wings — I was WRONG. The wings at Ideal Wings are SO delicious and if you can even believe it, better than Buffalo Wild Wings. The wings are ALWAYS crispy, the sauces are homemade, delicious, taste fresh, and are not overwhelming at all. My personal fav: The Habanero Mango. I have tasted this flavor elsewhere and I have loved it, but the overwhelming HOT flavor that made my lips swell and my eyes tear just didn’t do it for me. Here, the flavor is subtle and not too hot. The wings always come with tons of carrots and celery. The fancy Pomme Frites(french fries) are delightful, and must be tasted to be believed. They offer a pretty decent takeout menu of melts, soups, etc. I have been here several times and the quality is always consistent. Definitely worth a try, I have a feeling you’ll be hooked.
