My boyfriend insisted on visiting so that he could try the baumkuchen and bust out his German. Even though some nice German ladies commented that baumkuchen is supposed to be dry, the piece we tried that day was bone-dry. We suspect that it was an older piece that had been refrigerated for too long. We saved the rest for the next day and by then, it had hardened into a granite-like texture. On the positive side, we really enjoyed the crescent-shaped marzipan cookies that were dipped in sliced almonds and chocolate. They were excellent!

Read reviews on Unilocal and wanted to try another baker for my son’s bday. We ordered a sheet cake with a picture printed on the top. The only thing i would have done differently is have asked them to match the rest of the cake with the picture printed on the cake other then that. the cake was delicious. Even my fiancé who does not like cake had 2 slices he loved it. the buttercream wasn’t too sweet and the cake was so moist and yummy. Very nice people that work there and had it ready on time.

Great family bakery that’s been around for over 40years. With traditional European pastries and cakes that are AMAZING!!! Plus, great pricing for what you get and super friendly staff that just want to share their love of pastries/cakes.

Cake Box pastries are out of this world. Take it from someone who has driven all the way to Alpine Village when craving good, European pastries. Forget Solvang. Better Danishes at Cake Box. So fortunate to have an amazing German baker in town.

I’ve never tried the bakery and I’m not sure about the negative reviews posted below but they seem a little odd. Mostly concentrated around 2010 – 2012. Maybe they had a different employee during that time that wasn’t that great. Either way my experience was great! Ordered 2 custom cakes for our daughters first bday party. One large sheet cake for the guests which they enjoyed and one small cake for the guest of honor and she reeeeeaaalllly enjoyed hers! Price was($ 74) for both which was about half the price of the other place we got a quote from. There’s a reason a business stays open for 40 years and it’s not because they are terrible. Good job cake box!

I love this bakery. It has been around for over 40 years and I know why. The pastries are very classic and I love their Sacher cake. When I get married this will be my spot to get my wedding cake.

Recently I had the pleasure of ordering an all vegan cake from The Cake Box. I was a little worried(1) because it was for a special occasion(20th Anniversary) and(2) it was for someone else that I didn’t want to disappoint. The cake was amazing! I didn’t expect anything this fantastic — especially, all vegan. Their crew worked with me to make sure the cake met all my needs and then exceeded all my expectations. Everyone at the party wanted to know who made the cake. The front staff is super attentive and knowledgeable. From now on I will take all my future bakery business to the Cake Box.

I had a casino themed 50th birthday party and noticed a Vegas cake in the window. It wasn’t quite what I was looking for. They showed me some photos and told me to go on Pinterest to see if there was something that I might like. I found several cakes and met with their baker. The price was a little more than I wanted to spend so she told me ways that I could still have the look of the cake I wanted but at a lower price. The cake was exactly what I wanted! It was a GREAT decoration and it tasted really good, too.

We purchased our vegan wedding cake here. It was beyond delicious. I seriously cannot wait for our first anniversary so we can eat the left over pieces. Ok, I literally cannot wait and am sending my husband to get my birthday cake made here.

Dry, crappy cookies. Dusty. Half empty/full cases. I will advise NONE of my family, friends, or co-workers to even step foot in this business.

I can add Black Forest cake and German Chocolate to the review. Both were great! I have never been a huge fan of black forest and they have changed my mind theirs is the first one I’ve had that was truly moist and well balanced.

Seriously one of the best bakeries in Orange County. I can say this because I don’t like cake, except from Cake Box. Their white cake, with real strawberry filling and butter cream frosting is the best. If you order a large cake for a family event, I suggest you order a small personal cake for yourself for after the event. The cake goes quick. Our family has been ordering from Cake Box for years and we have never been disappointed.

— Locale Destination — It’s on Warner Ave and Springdale St in Huntington beach. It’s in a corner mini shopping center. Under the sign of shopping center, you’ll see the big sign of «The Cake Box». It’s in the middle of the shopping center. Unilocal app said it was closed, but the sign was«Open», so I just dropped by for my sweet needs. I didn’t check the Unilocal well — so I didn’t read any of «Baumkuchen» stuff ;( It’s a bakery — from wedding cakes to daily cakes and cookies. Inside was very outdated. All the foods there looked«outdated”/“old fashioned» — I’m sure they’re all freshly made ;p I felt like I tripped to «grandma’s era»… They have seatings both inside and outside. The staff were friendly. Plenty of parking. — Gluttony Expedition — Carrot Cake: Very weet and heavy/moist side. Not for me. Napoleon: PIes weren’t crunchy, rather«stale»… More like«Russian» ones, not so «French» style ones… The jam wasn’t bad, but the custard cream nor pies were not so good. Very dry. Smily face cookie: TOOSWEET and dry. — Conqueror’s Deduction — They are known for wedding cakes and«Baumkuchen», but sell cakes(whole and individual) and cookies at the bakery. When I saw«Baumkuchen»(Germany’s famous layered cake), I suspected this was a GERMAN bakery. You rarely see it at American bakeries. Japanese make those but they do twist it on Japanese palate — a lot lighter and a bit more moist than traditional German one. After I went through other reviews at home, many people mentioned about their infamous working baumkuchen machine(one of two existed in US). I like baumkuchen better than any other German pastries. German pastries in general are VERY dry(they require me to drink a lot), sweet and very old fashioned(looks and taste). They keep their traditions. Their flavors aren’t so deep as their AWESOME wine nor beers. You’ll agree with me if you tried tons of German pastries, beers, and wine like me… I should try their«Baumkuchen» next time! For the cakes and cookies, they were way too sweet and too dry for me. They’re cheap but I don’t go price over quality. «Baumkuchen» — that’s the key here!

I love coming here. So fun. Very cute bakery. I recommend the Napoleons! They sell the ones that are a day old at half price, and they taste just as good!

One word: BAUMKUCHEN I can’t yell this loud enough. This is one of TWO places in the US that have a working baumkuchen machine. SO. Guess what the specialty is? This cake is super tasty and light. You can say its a kind of tea cake, not too sweet even with the glaze. The only other type of baumkuchen I’ve found is in Japanese grocery stores/bakeries. The Japanese type has way more layers, but no glaze or chocolate coating. I prefer the german style, but thats just me. A little pricey($ 23), but worth it. The cake was gone in a day! Everyone in my family enjoyed it. My only gripe is that the bakery is located in Huntington Beach, which is pretty far from where I live. However, I’d come back again just to buy the baumkuchen. SOGOOD!

We went to The Cake Box after seeing it the night before on our way to the a restaurant in the same plaza. The Master Pastry Chef, Paul Gauweiler, greeted us, was friendly, and discussed pastries. Having been to Vienna, we know about pastries This is an old-world German bakery. They specialize in Baumkuchen, Sachertorte, Black forest cake, etc. I had a Dobostorte slice and it was good. If you want a light chocolate cake with red food coloring then go to a supermarket. They can make any cake but specialize in unique European pastries. My husband already said he’ll be back to order my birthday cake, we has been Black forest since childhood. They even send cakes to the U.S. Troops for the soldiers birthdays. We are delighted to find this bakery so close by.
