Sammy’s

Bland mediocre food. They need a new cool or new recipes cus they don’t know how to make Mexican food or American food. Had a carne asada burrito and wow it was so wrong. What a horrible first impression for this place my wife had a sandwich and she wasn’t please with it either.

What a MISTAKE — ordered the strips with cheese (large). I used to come here many years ago and even when it was once Jose McCoy’s. Strips and cheese were served in a stryrofoam container, by the time I got home 25 minutes later, the strips were stale. Cheese used to be freshly grated, this was the processed straight out of bag and sprinkled on the strips. They offer a small and large portion, I opted for the large, surprise, surprise, it was barely two handfuls of strips.
I baked the strips when I got home so they were edible and crunchy to eat, threw the cheese away, and shredded some fresh colby jack cheese — they were finally good to go, hot, flavorful, with good cheese.
Sadly, I will wanted to return to have lunch there and check out a few regular menu items suck as sandwiches, burgers, etc… but I’d rather save my $ 6.75 for crappy strips and cheese and eat elsewhere. A few miles up the road and you can get FREE great tasting chips and salsa and great Mexican food at Mario’s in the 5 Points shopping center just off Beach /​Ellis. For a few dollars more get a complete meal, free chips and salsa and great friendly customer service.
The cashier at Sammy’s was friendly — but the over priced and lack of portion size strips and cheese was a FLOP, unfortunately will not be back.
SUGGESTION: change out the strips, change out the type of cheese used, drop the price, or provide a decent portion of strips and cheese in a larger container — but do something different.

i always come here for their breakfast burritos. the food is excellent. they also have an amazing medium/​roasted salsa in the condiment bar. i have tried a few of their other menu items and have never had any complaints. my favorite part about the breakfast burritos is that you can get them with egg whites and in a wheat tortilla.

I just went here for the first time and a got a double cheeseburger… Literally the worst cheeseburger I have ever had. The fries where burnt, but the kids quesadilla was good lol. I won’t be going back EVER!

Sam passed away suddenly in early June 2015. He was a great friend and is missed by many. I’ve been going to Sammy’s first in Laguna Beach and then both locations in Huntington Beach. It saddens me to see that his vision of an awesome burger joint may have gone down hill.

Great hole in the wall. Hangover food for sure :) breakfast sandwiches and chili cheese fries are my favorite. They make a great turkey sub too.

Just stopped here for the first time while working at Starbucks. Owner was very accommodating to my low carb omelet and the fact that I had a $ 100 bill on me and no change. Omelet was delicious. Very good balance of flavors (I got bacon, onions, mushrooms, and bell peppers with cheese and avocado).

Sammy’s is delicious for the price. If you wanna grub hard for cheap… it’s a can’t miss in my opinion. Get the breakfast burrito. DANK!

I used to love this place. I used to get their hamburger deal. It was a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink for less than 10 bucks. They later took that deal away so I tried their breakfast burritos. 7 bucks for a thin burrito without meat. With meat it can go upwards of $ 11 with tax and a small drink. Sammy, who is a cool dude, is not their often. I used to love this place, but I don’t know if I can afford to eat at this local socal favorite.

They must be a self proclaimed «best burgers in Huntington Beach» because that is so NOT the case. Burgers and Mexican food always a question in my mind as to WHY? but clearly they do much better at burgers then they do Mexican food.
I had a very simple bean, cheese and rice burrito and waited about 15 minutes for them to complete it. When I received it, the cheese was cold, the rice was beyond undercooked and crunchy and it looked like those beans had been sitting out on the stove top for at least a couple of days.
My son had a cheeseburger which was good. They do put thousand island on it and the burger itself was good. Not a lot of seasoning but good. I wouldn’t go back though.
The service was less then to be desired. The girl who took our order was kind of bothered by our presence and the person behind us received their food first; quite strange.

So this place used to be great. I don’t know if they switched ownership or what but it has gone down hill. The customer service sucks and they can not multi task without being rude. I was trying paying for my order and the gal took food to another client, took a phone order, and then finally I got to pay.
My husband called to put in a phone order for pick up– they said one moment, put the phone down, and left him on hold for 20 minutes. I’m not exaggerating here, I arrived to pick up the good on way home from work and I walked in to see everyone washing dishes and the phone still off the receiver with my husband waiting on the other end. The food could have been ready for me to pick up and pay but instead I’m sitting here waiting for my food to be cooked. The gal had no excuse, said they don’t have another number to call, and they were sorry but they took no action to show they were sorry. Still took forever to get the food and still paid full price. I am all about mom & pop shops or trying to help small businesses but you need to know how to run the business.
Used to be good but honestly this place has gone down hill. It’s not worth the 2 stars. The food is just above McDonald’s and the service is bad.
Come on people when you put someone on hold, part of that is picking back up the phone.

Totally disappointed today with Sammys breakfast burrito. First they screw up my bacon breakfast burrito by NOT adding bacon. Went back so they can fix and all they did was add bacon to my old burrito. I was expecting a fresh burrito but got this. Wasted my gas and time for nothing. Thumbs down.

I’ve been going here for years. I’ve had a few burgers, all great. What really stands out is the breakfast burritos though. I pride myself on being a breakfast burrito connoisseur and let me tell you: this place is hands down my favorite. Their bacon is to die for.
Best part: they’re served all day and come with a nice sized serving of tortilla chips!

I really like this place. The owner and the employees are beyond friendly and helpful, very refreshing in this day and age.
The food is great here. Try their pastrami and add provolone. Mmm mmm mmm!
I love French fries but, not here. They seem to be always over cooked but, that is the only complaint I have.

I just know of too many other places that you can spend 10 dollars and get GREAT FOOD.
I had their special small strips and a taco. Figuring it was a Mexican menu. Taco was good nothing special. Ground beef LET, tom had a nice salsa bar.
The small strips looked great. But tasted terrible they had some sorta sweet sauce that was called a red sauce. Normally red sauces are like an enchilada sauce. Not here and it comes with a mild chef mex cheese not melted. That makes no sense authentic mex lol no not even close. Had their nachos before they did the same thing.
Stick to the burger and fries for 10 bucks that’s what my wife had and I have tried it before. Good burger
Or you can go to the Habit for 8 or in and out Hell even Carl’s Jr has a better burger for the money.

This is where my hunt for a good breakfast burrito in the area ended. Hands down. My favorite. The size is perfect. The eggs, perfect. Everything, is just perfect.
It’s not gourmet. It’s not fancy. There is no gimmick. It’s just that perfect breakfast burrito on a Saturday morning, or Thursday evening, or Sunday «lunch».
Clean inside, albeit dated. Good salsa bar. Never a wrong order either.

I had placed a review in the pass… not sure what happened to account. Well, here I am said «Air Supply». I must pass on that the BACON AVOCADO BURGER W/​½ FRIES ½ ONION RINGS are just phenomenal. Perhaps, cause I am fat… hell I did not get fat with just eating salad. Besides, haven’t you heard «Would you trust a skinny chef »
I totally recommend eating at Sammy’s. I am a diabetic but I am not dead so I share a burger with my son.

The pastrami, burgers, sandwich, shredded beef burrito and breakfast burritos are all good choices when you’re hungry for quality food. Service is quick, avg wait has been 10 min max.

I really enjoyed my cheesburger at Sammys. I usually order my cheeseburgers without onions, except when I am at In-​n-​out, where I usually get them grilled. Sammy’s also offers them grilled and they really make a great burger.
What Sammy’s does even better than their burgers is their chili cheese fries. I can’t say enough good stuff about these. If you are going to Sammys, you MUST get these.
Sammys also does tacos and hoagies as well. I did a little table surfing, and next time, will definitely try one of their sandwiches. They look good!
