Got kicked out of a bar for the first time in my life. I’m in my 50’s. My sis and I went to listen and dance to classic rock. Perq’s was recommended by some middle aged friends as a great place for dancing and fun. We loved the mixed age crowd and the band, The Tones were great. The BARTENDER and staff WERENOT. We ordered our first drinks and left a great tip. We claimed a spot close to the dance floor to see the band and dance, which we did! At one point, after returning to our spot, the bar staff had removed our drinks although we were not done with them. While ordering a second round, I attempted to speak to the bartender about it and she blew me off. I ordered the drinks anyway and paid another nice tip. Went back to our spot and continued dancing. Our drinks were removed again, barely half empty. I tried, again to speak to the bartender. She blew me off again and was downright rude. I asked to speak to the manager, who she claimed she was, and at which point, she told the bouncer to kick us out. The bouncer was apologetic. Folks in the bar, who were enjoying us hugged us and high fived us on the way out. I am not a threatening person, nor was I brawling. As an upstanding member of my community, willing to spend my hard earned money on top shelf drinks and tip well, I found the customer service appalling. Bad bartender and bar keep. Not nice people!

My sincere apologies for previously Unilocaling and mistaking(I should have looked at the credit receipt first) your establishment for the ghetto sharkeez down the street. So sorry!

This is a great place to watch a cover band. I have seen many solid bands here. The dance floor is small, and you will be pressed against the band. The lower reviews seem to be for other times. Make friends with the guys on the door.

My boyfriend and I came here pretty quickly after our drive from Las Vegas to Huntington, and we were needing some alcohol stat. And I truly mean stat. They have a large selection of alcohol and a really nice bartender. I saw another review for here that said they could really use something here to make them stand out. I tend to agree, but maybe they keep it this way to keep the tourists out. We ordered two margaritas. He informed us the blender was broken so he could only serve it on the rocks. Fine. The drink was good, but frankly, we were looking for a bar that probably was a tourist trap, so we moved along main st.

«Those guys» that hosts the karaōke there is horrible. He just plays the karaōke from YouTube and still can’t do that right. They obviously don’t have Sound Choice karaōke song rights. He had two people sing two songs before me. They were obviously people that knew him. The KJs before him, Cindy and Sergrio, were much more professional. I will never go back.

This bar needs something to stand out, with all competition in the area. & better music, it feels like I’ve been listen to the same angry song for 30 minutes. Overall its an okay bar for bar hopping. But there are plenty of better bars within a 10 second walking distance.

You know those places where the over inflated meathead-type at the front obviously takes his position way too seriously? The kind«doorman» that uses his little stool and flashlight to boost his ego… This is one of those places. Location is great, front door staff: not so much. After a full weekend of work in the area, my business partner and I were happy to find an atmosphere in downtown HB that let us unwind… We had good experiences at both Hurricane and Beer Co over the weekend and would recommend either of those places to a friend. I will not be returning to Perqs and if the assh*le that was hired to work the door(1÷9÷16 — 1÷10÷16 around midnight) is any indication of how the rest of the staff treats customers, I’m happy we spent our money elsewhere.

As a local patron of several bars in the Huntington beach area, I thought a great way to introduce my friend who just moved from out of state was to take them to Perqs to watch the NFL playoff game. We came in around 5PM. We tried to run a tab, but the bartender said she was leaving and insisted we cash out. Since both of us worked in the bar industry for quite some time, we totally understood. We did end up ordering about 3 more rounds from the same bartender, and we were both still fine with having to repeatedly cash out our cards. The new bartender came on her shift and had quite the chip on her shoulder from the very start. Her negative attitude was very noticeable to several patrons sitting at the bar. I left the bar to step outside to have a smoke and my friend had ordered two more drinks and started a tab with her. The check said her name was Leigh, but I think the bar back called her Heather. When I asked to check out, I received more attitude from this bartender. Honestly, I was baffled. I wasn’t sure why she was upset. I had talked this place up, I have been here numerous times and really enjoyed their live music. I wasn’t sure what the issue was, but regardless, we were cashing out so I saw no reason to worry about it. My check and credit card were literally thrown down in front of me and the total was $ 13.50(mind you, we had spent nearly $ 100 here). I still left a $ 1.50 tip because I felt bad. Maybe this bartender was having a bad day? Not sure. Before we had finished or drinks and with the signed check no where near the area of the bar that would indicate it should be grabbed yet, this bartender reached over the bar, reviewed the tip on the receipt in front of us and stormed off. I was appalled. You wait until a patron is finished or ask if they are all set. Then you can grab the receipt and enter your tip. Funny thing was, we were going to leave her more cash until this happened. While we were having a conversation about how we were being treated, this bartender came to us and said, «you know I can hear you.» I explained that we felt she was being very rude. She indicated that she had been told we were being rude with quite the attitude. Apparently, management at this place prefers their bar staff get confrontational with guests versus trying to resolve situations. At that point, I could tell she was more concerned with being confrontational than pleasing the patrons in the bar. Hopefully, her manager works with her to teach her how to defuse situations such as this, rather than add fuel to the fire. The chip she had on her shoulder wasn’t worth the debate. We left our unfinished drinks, and left the establishment. I apologized profusely to my friend… then thought, «why am I apologizing for her behavior?» It was just so embarrassing when you take someone out for the first time In Huntington and the first place they go to where they were having fun treats their guests like absolute garbage. We walked over to the Irish pub, where the staff was super friendly as was the atmosphere. This girls attitude had literally cleared the bar. I have never been treated like this in this establishment, but unfortunately I will no longer be returning. I have also shared this story with other friends who used to frequent Perqs and they also were shocked. I hope management realizes they have an employee that is costing them business from local patrons. It’s just sad since this place has been around for so long and was one of my favorite dive bars. I’ll be spending my money elsewhere. If the only Perq of this place is to be treated horribly, there is no reason to go back. Also, I plan to call management regarding this situation. I am not just someone who leaves bad Unilocal reviews for no reason. It is shame a fun place like this has such employees ruining its business.

Went to perqs last night for one round. They had great music good crowd. I’ve heard this place is Notorious for over charging when you pay with credit or debit. Unfortunately I did not have any cash and took my chances using my debit card. Sure enough I looked at my bank account this morning and was over charged luckily I kept my receipt and will take it up with my bank. Not a good feeling when anyone steels from you let alone an established business. BEWAREPAYCASH If you choose to check out this place.

Went to check out karaōke on a Thursday night. 4 of us sat down at empty bar stools, trying to decide what to drink we were approached by an unfriendly bar tender. As a bar tender, its your job to make the first good impression and make guests feel welcome. Ordered drinks and was sitting there drinking our beers… As a bar tender, do not have stools at your well… there we were and she told us to move away from her well. Really? Move your well and be nice, why go out of your way to not be accommodating… went to 2nd floor, across the street, for another drink with worthy service.

7÷3÷15 the bar had a good vibe with a band rocking it. Highest is 3 stars due to mixed drinks tasting aweful. In end resorted to tequila shots straight up

Very disappointed that the Porcupine Soldiers won’t be returning to Perqs. They always get the crowd up dancing and have a great song select. Now I don’t have a reason to drive out to HB. I’ll see them everywhere else instead. So long Perqs.

My favorite bar on Main Street. Perfect dive bar. The best spot in the bar are the window seats perfect for people watching once you get a seat here you don’t want to give it up. Prices are reasonable, bartenders are good enough and they have awesome live bands.

Let me get this out the way, the only reason why this place is getting another star is because of the drink prices, it’s CHEAP! I would come back here for the drink price or if there’s another bartender which is causing me to give this place 3 stars. First things first, first impression should always be the main thing once walking into any place. Called the place to ask where they’re located, the lady who picked up the phone was rude. Walked into the place and there was only 1 bartender working(a female), so I’m assuming she’s the one who answered the phone. The bartender with tattoo in her right arm got my drink right away which kinda makes up for her rudeness I guess. But as I sat there and try to get a feel for the place, I noticed that customers drinks were empty people were trying to have a conversation with her and she’s not paying attention to anyone but the phone in her hand and whoever is on the other side of the phone. Sad! Maybe its just me or maybe not but Customer service dude!!!

Perq’s is one of those bars that has been around forever and you kinda get that idea when you first walk in. This may turn some people off, but for me, I really don’t mind it. This place is pretty popular for the older crowd so if you’re young(21 – 28) this might not be the best place for you. I’m not bothered when I come here, the service isn’t bad, and drink prices aren’t out of this world. It’s also a good place to watch a game and if you’re like me who always need to be munching on something, you can buy a bag of peanuts here for $ 3. If you have peanut allergies, I do not recommend coming here. They also have a live band here every Friday and Saturday night. See you there!

Considering the nearby Gallagher’s Bears bar was too packed to take in more fans, we ended up coming to Perqs. It’s a lot less crowded, with multiple games on, great location, good dive bar personality. Nothing special. If you’re into people watching and not so into sports you can always sit at the front at the window. Can’t speak to the food but if you want any ask. They don’t have menus or food specials around. The TVs are on the smaller side but more space for more TVs!

We ended our night on Sunday at Perq’s… It was my boyfriends bday and we were out with all of his friends and the guys at the door made fun of him because of how much weight he had gained. That made me feel so bad, I could see that they hurt his feelings. And in front of all of his friends on his birthday?! We all went in and hung out for a bit and my boyfriend left after about 30 minutes, he just walked home. I won’t be coming back here. The guys at the door were pretty mean. Beer prices were cheap, the girls behind the bar were nice.

Awesome local hangout here down in Huntington. Right across the street from the beach. We were lured in as we walked by with their happy hour sign and large selection of beer on tap. They have a small food menu of snacks. Not a full menu, but enough to get you by if you were wanting to munch while you drink. As long as you aren’t expecting anything fancy, you’ll have a great time grabbing a drink here. Remember, dive bar– embrace it! If divey isn’t your thing, don’t stop in!

When I first moved to Huntington Beach, a friend warned me: Don’t go to DTHB on Fri and Sat nights. A lot of people from 909 come to escape the heat, they can’t handle their liquor and they start fights. I had to check this out for myself. I found out most of the idiots were from 714 and 949, and surprisingly right from Huntington Beach. I still don’t hang out in DTHB much on Fri and Sat night, but at least I know its the locals who actually cause the trouble and blame it on a few of the out of the area peeps. Perq’s is usually one of the stops for me and my friends in DTHB. We prefer it here compared to Fred’s or some of the other«bro» bars. Although, you can find another type of clientele that rhymes w/«bro» here too — LOL!!! I came here on a Sunday night and they had a reggae band playing which was cool( ). The bartenders and servers are nice. The ambiance is pretty basic: A bar on the left, tables on the right and a floor in the back for the band. The bathrooms are also clean: 3 Stars for both. What I like about this place vs the«bro» bars is that it is more low key and there are no a$$holes in here. In DTHB, that is a small commodity at times.
