MO’S WHYDIDYOUHAVETOCLOSE!!! i came here and at first i was like huh, they changed the menu, ok mebbe it’s just remodeling? and then i saw a sign that said beach pit bbq and i was like what? it’s MO’S… well mo’s was awesome, esp their vinegar bbq sauce, and the«new» place is okish(they still have the same wooden pigs as table numbers, as though they wanna mock us that it’s no longer mo’s). i guess if you never had mo’s, it’d be pretty good, but if you have like me, then it’s just disappointing. BRINGBACKMO’S!

LOVED this place when it was MO’s! Its now Beachside Pit BBQ and the place is the PITS!!! So far from Mo’s smokey goodness that its laughable,. same funky décor, but the ribs were not tender, rather dry and stringy with very ordinary sauce. Pulled Pork was not great either everything like Sides tasted like straight out of a can. No more sweet Cole Slaw on the Pig Sandwiches either! The great Cobbler is no more, cornbread was like yellow playdough! I am In Mourning for Mo’s. Oh and the topper, I poured a glass of ice tea and thankfully did not drink any, As I raised it to my lips the stench was overwhelming, Like swamp water! Have they never heard of cleaning the Ice tea canister. Skip it and head down a couple doors to Sushi On Fire. So sad that this fave place of our families has sold out to another chain of low quality crap producers!

The Philly Ribs are fall off the bone tender, tangy, and meaty. The Sweet Carolina Ribs were too sweet-I had to scrape off the sauce to enjoy the meat. OK atmosphere-a cross between a casual diner and a take out place. Too expensive for the amount of food and the atmosphere.

This is the BBQ place to beat for me… I heard of other great places but in my opinion… the BBQ here is so damn good lol… One way to make sure is if the meat falls off the bone… if that doesn’t happen… then look elsewhere… They have three distinct sauces as well… soo good… think the sweet as well as the tangy ones are my favorite… Amazing garlic fries and you can’t go wrong with the pulled pork sammiches… I normally don’t eat pork… but I’ll make an exception with this… If there was only one negative critique… it’d be the amount of limited seating… but then again… there’s prolly a reason why the place is always packed…=) Can’t wait to go again…

This place mediocre at best. A bit overpriced in my opinion. Food: 2.5÷5 I shared the Sampler and a half rack of st. louis ribs(I think). Nothing really blew me away but it ended up being around 50 bucks with the addition of two drinks, for very mediocre food. The ribs were really rough and not at all tender. The samper included shredded pork, chicken, and a quarter slab which was way too sweet. Setting: 4⁄5 The place seemed authentic, it seemed as if it has been open for a long time. A few famous people on the walls Al Roker being one of them which is always a plus. Its a sit down, so nothing too pretentious here. Overall 2.5÷5 I wouldn’t come here again, you could easily find a better rib place around the area IMHO

Very disappointing. The ribs were as dry as hell and burnt. I was told by the manager(the same young lady that rang me up) that they should never have been served that way(so why were they?). Terrible. Why two stars? She did the right thing and gave me some decent ribs to go and $ 15 in free food next time I go. Even Ford used to know«Quality is Job 1» — if your crowd-pleaser is BBQ ribs then make them good and have someone in the kitchen responsible for checking before they go out — come on now the menu is super-limited and you can train anyone to note whether your product is burnt or not!

Generally a good owner = equals good food. True in this case. BBQ is GREAT, desserts are GREAT, most everything else is GREAT. Seating…not so much… but hey, if you’re stuffing yourself with GREAT food, you can overlook the seating, am I right?

— Locale destination — Great location in the middle of Main street in Huntington Beach. High sealing and roomy. Very casual. Since we had a lot of experiments of BBQ in Florida, we wanted to find a good place for BBQ around here. It smelled great, so I was kinda excited to try it. — Gluttony expedition — I tried a shredded pork sandwich. It’s sweet, not spicy. It’s bland. Sweet potato fries and Cole slaw — meh… Portion is very small — I’m Japanese chick… — Conqueror’s deduction — What’s special about this place??? I really don’t know. BBQ Pork sandwich at River Belle Terrace @ Disneyland is a lot better :)

The bbq brisket sandwich was ok. The thinner cut slices were edible but as they overcooked it… the thicker ones were a tad hard to eat. Potato mac salad was decent & the staff was friendly. Great sauce on the spicy bbq. I might come back and try something else. They lost a star on the peach cobbler. Cobbler should be warm with flaky or some sort of dough top. Theirs presents well but tastes like a frozen dessert that was defrosted and nuked. It was chewy… and nothing but cookies and brownies should be described as that.

Is that supposed to be Smoking«Mo’s/Moe’s»? If you’re going to take anything into consideration, take into consideration the proprietor or the manager running this business because I think a friendly person, or a person who looks like he cares is some major points for a restaurant: he came over to our table and asked how are meal was, and resolved an issue about running out of(sweet) tea in a very compensating manner. It’s these type of businesses that deserve to be in business, and I just hope the petty ass Huntington Beach parking meters(operates till Midnight) don’t deter you from soliciting the businesses on Main street. I did mention to the manager or the proprietor that the ribs were slightly on the dry side, and he immediately expressed his concern. I just hope he gets even more critical about the food, and he’s able to address that issue which I’m going to optimistically say he will do. If that’s the case, than I definitely think you should try out Smoking Moss.

An OCBBQ Place I Actually Liked! First, I would like to tip my hat to Christina N for her reviews and showing me this place! Read her reviews! I have been around main street all my life. There are very few places I like to eat, other than the old taco bell they shut down on 9th street. This place is great. I have passed by it many times without even noticing it. Here’s what I think: 1. This place uses smokers…3 of them!!! 2. I ordered the half rack combo pork ribs. I did not care for two of the sauces… but the ORIGINALSAUCE is totally FIVESTARS! 3. Sweet potato fries were ok. 4. Home made chips actually complimented the meal. I would stick to these. 5. Potato salad and baked beans came with the meal. They’re ok. 6. Cole Slaw was yummy! 7. Biscuit is ok. 8. I liked the unsweetened sweet tea:) 9. Plenty of extra sauce on the side. You want it, you pump it! 10. Very casual place and great hosts! All that I mentioned above was 30 bucks and enough for 2 people. Bonus#1: If you are down at the beach all day, this place is great. You can walk up to this place and eat on the patio. You can leave your board next to you. Bonus#2: Great for kids. Plenty were in here. Free pig nose and coloring pictures and crayons. This is a great place to get your grub on! Thanks Christina N! Pretty yummy place.

Look, I’m opriginally from Texas, so when i saw BBQ in So Cal, I went in with a chip on my shoulder ‚” pffff, BBQ in Cali, bet it sucks! I’ll eat it and prove myself right.” damn if i wasn’t soooo wrong. I wish there were a few of these back in texas where alot of places get lazy about their que’n cause they can get away with it. When you’re the only game in town, you bests bring the goods and Smokin Mo’s does just that! The story is pretty awesome, you’ll have to read the next time you go there. Its written on the wall and on a busy day, you’ll be waiting in line and get a chance to check it out while your standing. The food is fantatsic. the puled pork sandwich combines sweet and salt just perfectly, and the sauce dispensary next to the soda machine means you’ll be overstocked on a plethora of flavors. The fried green tomatoes are delicious and go great with a the ranch dressing they come with.(They’r e piping hot and the ranch makes em a perfect temperature. the honey butter on the cornbread? Hot damn! They have Gringo Bandito there as well, and it hits the spot when it’s slopped on the baked beans— TRYIT! In other words, I’ve just decided what I’m having for dinner tonight, ha!

Placed was packed service and BBQ much better than expected good sauce had to try them all, my favorite sauces were the spicy and philthy sauce nice flavors nothing overwhelming. We decided on the BBQ Sampler and Philthy Ribs, ¼ BBQ chicken, & shredded pork with a french roll our sides were corn bread, beans, a s– load of food for $ 20 dollars yes you’re taking some home. The star of the meal for me was the BBQ chicken cooked perfect tender fall off the bone where you could give a shit that the sauce is on your face and shirt as good as it gets hell almost ate my fingers I have the cuts to prove it. I prefer dry ribs over saucy ribs but Philth ribs fall off the bone good not sloppy or greasy. The shredded pork was another winner tender juicy not greasy french roll ok at best(I wish they served it on a pretzel bun like Beachwood) beans and cornbread nothing special overall great value, great service, I’m coming back soon.

Not the ribs for me and just ok alternative offerings. Like the dining area, but prefer Lucille’s or Famous Dave’s food. 2.75 stars Cost to worth it rating: 3 Return worthiness: no Highlights: — Atmosphere: open, casual, with entertaining BBQ pics on the walls as well as a surfing pig hanging from the ceiling — Location: on main street of downtown Huntington Beach, but far enough away from the beach end to be not crazy crowded — BBQ sauces: I liked the variety and deemed the regular my favorite. It was sweet and tangy. — Homemade potato chips: always love these — Pulled BBQ pork sandwich: good amount of pork Midlights: — BBQ chicken salad: liked all the fixings with the jicama and black beans, etc but thought I’d get something more exciting than plain chicken chunks at a BBQ spot — Ribs: very tender but I had an issue with the preparation style. They tasted boiled and missing that nice chatty grill texture on top. — Garlic fries: standard and nothing special for me(probably spoiled by living close to Gorden Bierch and even Armadillo Willy’s) Lowlights: — Corn muffin: extremely dry I liked the chill spot, but none of the food was great enough for me to crave a return trip back.

Tried the BBQ Chicken salad in an effort be on the lighter side, and it was acceptable but there was nothing particularly stand-outish about it. Also took the recommendation of a fellow patron to try the beans and they were really good as far as beans go. The sweet potato fries were good and they gave a portion that could easily be a side for 3 people, maybe more. The staff were incredibly cheerful, attentive, and helpful – best aspect of the experience by far!

It’s hard to get in the mood for some down home Southern BBQ when you are on busy Main Street in HB, a few doors away from the waves. The modern 3 story building does not help. All the trinkets and photos in the world can’t duplicate the old shacks in their wall pictures. The food, however, was wonderful. This was my first visit and I was not disappointed. I always do a combination platter, if available, at any new restaurant. Here, I had a few ribs(tangy«philthy» sauce, wonderful smokey meat), BBQ chicken(small, but well cooked, sweet sauce) and the pulled pork(yammy, full of flavor, not drenched in sauce). The cornbread was dry, the good kind of dry without being too«cake-like», and the honey butter was a nice touch. The coleslaw was fresh with thick cuts of cabbage. The beans were so so. A very good first experience, very sweet girls behind the counter and you gotta love that Sweet Tea.

For OC bbq, this place is reasonably solid if you have an itch that needs scratching. decent ribs. good sauce. Not southern level of quality but it’s much cheaper than a plane ticket to Dallas.

So I finally made it down to Smokin’ Mo’s BBQ based on all the positive reviews on Unilocal.I’m always looking for good BBQ. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich without the cole slaw. Sorry if that is sacrilegious or something but I just don’t like cole slaw and don’ see the need for a pile of it on my otherwise delicious looking sandwich. Anyways, I also got a side of the seasoned fries as well. The best part though was the BBQ bar — think Salsa bar at a Mexican joint. They have their 4BBQ sauces lined up with little cups so you can take some of each to sample or mix up your own creations. Available are the Original BBQ sauce which is a more traditional hickory, smokey, not too sweet sauce. The Sweet Carolina’s which is a more brown sugary sauce which was really good. They also have Philthy Phil’s sauce which seems to be pretty heavy on the mustard and very tangy — not for me but some of you might like it. They also have a HOT version of the original if you need to kick yours up a notch. I sampled one of each and I also mixed the Original with the Sweet for what I thought was probably the best option. The pork was good. Very moist and tender and the roll it was on was also tasty. The fries were definitely seasoned so if you’re not a salt person, you might want to look elsewhere for a side. They were quite good though too! All in all, great experience, love the BBQ and plan to go back to try the ribs.
