HORRIBLE!!! We checked in this past Sunday evening, tired and worn out from an all weekend convention in Anaheim. The room(219) had a terrible smell and the refrigerator was not working. The view on the balcony was horrible as it is right next to an oil rig and someone building a house! We had plans to meet friends in LA that evening so we decided to call the front desk in the morning to ask about the smell and refrigerator. When we left the room that evening, I forgot my phone and walked back and our door was not locked… apparently you have to really pull it for it to completely shut and make sure it locks! Thank God I forgot something. When we returned it was late and we went to bed. We were awoken very early by huge cranes moving steel beams right next to our balcony!!! They were dangling them above the hotel. This was the last straw. When I tried to use the phone in the room to call the front desk, the phone did not work! I used my cell phone and spoke to Theresa. She was rude and unapologetic. I was told they had no control over construction and asked why I didn’t call about the fridge last night. She also asked if I was in the room because I was calling from my cell, to which I replied, yes because YOUR phone does not work. At that point, she gave me 2 options, to move to another room on the same side(so same issues) or check out by 1 pm. I chose to check out. While packing our things at 12:40, one of their employees(a male) walked into our room without knocking!!! JUSTOPENEDTHEDOORWHENSHEKNEWWEHADNOTLEFTYET!!! ISTHATEVENLEGAL?! What if one of us were not dressed!!! We even had the do not disturb sign on the door. Five minutes later, Theresa calls me and asks if we are checking out or not. I told her we would be out by 1 as we were getting our things together and trying to find another hotel where we were not treated this way! She told me if I was not out by 1, I would be charged another night. When we went to the desk to check out there were two Indian gentlemen there with Theresa. I spoke to her and voiced my concerns and asked if they were going to give any kind of discount based on this horrible experience(at this time the gentlemen walked away) she told me that they would not offer any compensation for our inconvenience. I asked to speak to a manager and she brought out one of the same gentlemen who was originally standing there. I explained what the situation was again and again he told me they wouldn’t offer any discount to which I told him that was horrible customer service and I would never be returning. I HONESTLYCANNOTBELIEVEANYONEWOULDSTAYHERE! The motel is away from the downtown area and you have to walk past very shady type places where I did not feel safe. I was trying to save some money but all the aggravation and the location was NOT worth it! We transferred to the Shorebreak Hotel where we have been treated like royalty!!! I will not try to save a few dollars in the future. You definitely get what you pay for! On top of all the aggravation, 2 days after we checked out the full amount(for 3 nights) was still being held off my bank account. When I contacted the motel, they told me if the bank called them they could adjust it. I called my bank and was on hold to speak to them for 10 minutes, when I explained they agreed to do a 3 way call with the motel. When I called the motel, no one answered… It just rang for a good 4 minutes straight! I tried calling several times since then and no one is answering their phone now. What kind of motel doesn’t answer their phone! One that does not have any customer service skills! I wouldn’t recommend an enemy to stay here!

HI. I stayed at the HB In for three day long weekend January, 2016, I visit Ca often and knew the hotel is a good location, moderate priced. Just a heads up. There is a LOT of very noisy construction outside the hotel. I think there is another high rise hotel going up. When checking in I paid for an ocean view. The view would have been great but it was blocked by a lot of cranes and machinery. I saw this right away and thought I could deal with this, but did not realize the crew would be starting construction as easily as 7am. The noise was so loud I could not hear the TV, or take a phone call inside the room. Day two of my stay, the room was never cleaned.(No one seemed to care when I mentioned this) And not a huge issue but the towels are so old there are holes in them and they feel like sandpaper. Day three, when mentioned to the staff that maybe guests who pay for ocean view should be warned of the noise and view, the management was extremely, rude. He even got mad at the desk Clark when she asked him to come out of his office to speak to me. Not just rude but a smart ass about the issue. I won’t go into detail because it was so ridiculous, I will just sum it up… There are so many other wonderful places to stay in HB, you don’t need to be disappointed as I was at this dirty, rude staff hotel. If anything, stay a few miles further for something nice for the money. I will never stay at this hotel again, and I will be sure to alarm anyone who asks my opinion where to stay. Melanie Schill.

We spent a few days. Location was excellent. Walking distance to Pier and Shops. My only complaint is they are doing remodeling and had to be moved due to noise. The staff was very accommodating and upgraded us at no additional cost.

Really surprised at how nice the room was, for a very reasonable price! Our room was spacious and clean and had been upgraded recently. Comfy bed and nice bedding. It was a nice walk couple of blocks to Fred’s Cantina, and you can see the beach and hear the waves from our room !! We will stay here again!
