Capoeira Mandingueiro

I love this place. It gives me something to look forward to. I suffer from depression and my last suicide attempt was November I think. My doctor said I needed something to pull me back up and to exercise. I chose Capoeira because of the intense workout and I have always wanted to do acrobatics. It forces me to push myself and I feel good when I accomplish a new move. It also makes me feel like a Jedi :)
It’s a dance as well as a martial art (I used to do both), you learn to sing and play Instruments (I also used to play music and sing). You learn a new language as well as history and culture.
Most important it emphasizes family, friendship, and community. The instructor is so nice and encouraging. He pushes you to be and do your best. The other students are friendly and enthusiastic. They are willing to help each other and there are no egos.
For me, the hardest part (and scariest) is to interact with people. This school is helping me over come this and has given me a positive foundation as I work towards improving my life.

We absolutely love Abada-​Capoeira and all of the wonderful teachers there! My 3 year-​old daughter started a few months ago and wants to go every single day. Mosquito is very patient and wonderful with the kids. I could not recommend it more!

This is a great place to learn capoeira and its origin, music and all. I enjoy coming here to practice capoeira because people are wonderful and encouraging and so is contra mestre Mosquito. I just love the energy that is being created every time we get together.

Capoeira Mandingueiro is an awesome Capoeira school! I am Brazilian but that’s about the only familiarity I have with Capoeira. I have always found it fascinating but never thought I would be able to learn. Contra Mestre Mosquito is so patient with his students and his personality makes learning fun! He gives his all to every class and you always leave feeling awesome! I have only been doing it for two months and I have a long way to go as far as learning all sequences but I have improved a lot and now believe that it is possible and I CAN learn Capoeira! Thanks to the teaching and the encouragement that I have received from Contra Mestre Mosquito & our Capoeira Family!

I’ve started training capoeira now for a few months as well as my daughter and it has been the best decision ever for me. CM Mosquito is very patient and good at breaking down more complex moves. I was very uncoordinated before and yet I have been able to learn many moves that I never thought I would be able to do. He is a great teacher, very passionate about capoeira and about teaching. Everyone at the academy have welcomed me with open hearts and open arms. They are my family now. Capoeira has not only made me feel more confident with myself, I have never been in better shape in my life! It’s better than any gym workout I’ve done, and you see progress and results with each passing week. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to lose inches, to learn something new and fun, to make new friends, and to have a great time with doing something positive for your life! Classes are generally smaller but regardless of how big or small the class is, Mosquito will work with you and give you attention when he sees you struggle. Everyone is super friendly, nice, and helpful. Students help each other out on bettering or learning different moves.

Best capoeira school. I trained with a few other schools but Capoeira Mandinguerio is the only school I’ve felt at home with. The classes vary in size but whether big or small Contra Mestre Mosquito always is able to provide personalized attention. It’s amazing how much growth I have seen and continue to see in all students and myself.

Capoeira is a beautiful martial arts that is unlike any other fitness you’ll ever come across. It incorporates fighting, dancing, music, acrobatics, and culture. There is no good way to describe it in words, you just have to see it!
Contra Mestre Mosquito has a gift for teaching. Not only does he live and breath Capoeira, he understands what each student needs to improve his/​her skills. Plus the guy is so funny, he always comes up with ways to make your practice interesting (aka 1,000 pushups and 1,000 situps).

I met Professor Mosquito at a batizado in Portland, and he was one of the most down to earth and approachable people I have met, especially given his exceptional level of talent. He truly embodies the community element of capoeira that I love so much!

Everyone is really easy to get along with especially barbara and mosquito. This place has a website to go to when they will cancel class along with a dedicated place solely for capoeira, not a dance studio. This was definitely a good deal between my mom and I as far as taking another martial art for me and taking dance with her.
I narrowed my search to 3 places, 2 branches of batuque, and this was my last because it was the furthest, the one in irvine charges for the introductory class so I didn’t even bother trying it, the batuque in santa ana by versatil was great but the teacher was there sometimes, but if not he would leave it up to his highest student to lead the class, I didn’t like that, but when I took a class from versatil, his class was really great. Class would be cancelled and I would show up and no one was there, apparently I had to be part of the yahoo group to be notified of this, so I drove 40 minutes round trip to find out class was cancelled. Batuque is 66 a month for 2x a week and this place is 80 a month unlimited, or it is a recent special!
My only complaint is that it is far from where I live, but that’s not the businesses fault so I can’t think of anything wrong yet, and they gave me a week to try it, I learned a lot in that week too.

An awesome place to learn Capoeira Regional. Professor Mosquito knows how to teach in a way that is individualized that each student will get and understand capoeira.
Whether you’re new or an experienced capoeirista you’ll be able to play in the roda and have fun… equal chances to play :)
And at the end of the day you become part of the family… love them!

Capoeira is half of my heart! its a sport, an art and music. A good workout for mind, body and soul. I go at this academy because of the good vibes (axe!!) i get every time i train. The students are all very cozy and are always willing to help you if you cant do some moves yet. More so, the teacher is good, he’s got a lot of personal experiences and know-​hows which will give you what you need to learn techniques. And when the class is over, my body doesn’t feel like tired or beaten, it always leaves my heart smiling and that I’m ready play more in a roda.
