Corkscrew Wine Shoppe & Bar

Our bartender, Maria was very informative, knowledgeable and offered great suggestions on alternatives to wine we were drinking as a group. I like coming here to the corkscrew to hang out with friends either before or after dinner in Birkdale. Sometimes its too loud but tonight it was just right!

Fabulous place to hang out. Bottle wine is a liitle pricey. But you are in LKN.

Some things to be noted and observed.
Great spot for cougar watching. Every once in a while you’ll see one pounce. Magic.
They don’t serve a blue plate special which is odd considering the demographic at times.
If you want to study plastic surgery (good and bad) this is your place.
It’s a place where at times desperation wreaks of admiration. But everyone wants to be loved, right?
HGH users have found a place to hang out
Fake tans — in December. Patrons contribute to all local business.
Where the two things that are platinum are Amex cards and non real blondes who put on their best platinum blonde looks with out realizing — that it might not be their best look.
A place where one-​time married folks who did it wrong once, now with their cash settlements from previous divorces have no issues — doing it wrong twice.
Beware — the uncle you were warned about is probably here.
Basically if you can’t get laid here — you’re not trying. By not trying — you failed to say hello — to anyone on a Friday/​Saturday night.
The music is superb
Overall a lively and fun group to people watch.

Please note that I only came in for a quick beer while the hubs stayed in the car with a sleeping baby. With that said: the beer was warm. I tried a sample of the Great Lakes Christmas Ale, she gave me the sample in an unchilled wine glass and it was really warm beer. So, I ordered a different beer, maybe it was the tap? The other beer came in a cold beer glass (good beer should not be served in a cold glass) and it was still warm– yuk! I give 3 stars because the selection was good, the server was kind and it seems that everything else in this place is probably great. But for me, the beer. was. warm. :-(

This place could be amazing and really fun, but the service is terrible. I met a few friends who already had a table inside, and it took 15 minutes for the waitress to come take our drink order. I asked about a few beers they had on tap, and she had no clue about any of them.
The drinks took 10 minutes to come back. The food was prepackaged (might as well have brought a sleeve of Ritz crackers and a tub of Sabra hummus from home). The check never came.
In order to tab out, I had to go wait at the bar for 10 minutes until the bartender finally paid attention.
Overall, the experience was meh. Just hire more staff and train them. That would take a 3-​star review to a 4-​star review!

This is such an adorable place to share a bottle of wine with a group of girlfriends!
I met a group of friends to celebrate a birthday and we were greeted immediately! We’d made reservations so our table was waiting and we started sampling different wines.
I love that they offer a special everyday for a red, white and moscato for only $ 6! All the staff were very knowledgeable about the wine list as well as the wine options on the back wall.
We settled on two bottles one from the wall and one from the wine menu for last night, but I already know the next ones I’m going to have when I return!
I’d recommend this place for anyone that loves a great bottle of wine!

Well. It took four times to order four things. Each glass of wine and two food plates. The manager barmen waiter, all then same person just was not listening. Ordered a meat plate prosciutto ham cheese etc. It was awful. Terrible. Dry ham. No real prosciutto. Cheap cheese of some sort. Empenadas which were microwaved well. Rubbish.
Any wine is alright the rest not. Nice place terrible device and food that is worse than a free airport lounge buffet.
I could change this place in an hour or two. Nice location and good space. That gives it the one star. Unless I buy it or run it I will not be back. What a waste.
Secondly. Other customers brought in their own in polystyrene boxes. Yuk. Ate inside out of boxes on the tables. So non classy. Ridiculous. Why this was allowed? If this turns out to be the owner. You chose the wrong trade.

a great place to take in the sites of Birkdale.

Four of us sat outside and saw our server only twice. Once to order and once to deliver our food and wine. She never checked on us, never refilled our water, and just disappeared. We had to find someone else to bring our check. Food and wine were good. Prices were average. But service was terrible.

Very ice place. Be careful if they are busy as it might take awhile to get a staff person but its a nice place to stop for a quick drink. The house wine is actually really nice and they carry as good as Cakebread, that impressed me.

The atmosphere is pleasant yet, uplifting. The band playing is exceptional and the service has been great! They have an array of wines and snacks. I recommend this establishment to any and all wine drinkers!!! I definitely see this being a regular place for me to visit!

Great «stop in» for a glass of wine and a cheese plate! Bustling on Friday & Saturday nights (which is why I go on Monday! haha)

Bad service took forever to get out order, then took forever to get food (prepackaged hummus) and then the server disappeared for 45 mins so we didn’t get more drinks, and had to hunt someone down for the check as we got tired of waiting and decided to go somewhere else.
As an aside, we sat outside, where they allow smoking, which was very unpleasant.

Poor experience as we were leaving establishment —
There was what appeared to be a local and frequent flyer who appeared very intoxicated at the bar near our table. He became verbally abusive to my husband who has significant hearing loss. Initially — my husband thought he was joking and just trying to chat with him — again — he can not hear well — however it quickly became clear that man was upset for some reason … As he became verbally abusive and yelling at him for unknown reasons — After asking for manager assistance — We were asked to leave and not the one who caused the drama! We were good customers — polite to tables around us — also leaving a generous tip — still unsure what inflamed the bar fly — however will not go back to a place that encourages this type of behavior.

I will NEVER go back to The Corkscrew in Birkdale again! In my 44 years of existence, this was the absolute worst experience I have ever had in a «professional» establishment. The blatant DISRESPECT shown by the management staff was unacceptable and will not go unaddressed. My party was verbally accosted by one of their «regular» customers who appeared to be drunk. I went to management to ask for help. I expected them to ask the man to leave. Instead, my party was asked to leave. Unbelievable! They were more concerned with keeping their «regulars» happy than with protecting the safety and rights of their other guests.

A very unique wine bar in birkdale. I have been here countless times however I have noticed the last several times the wait staff is unaware and not knowledgeable regarding the wines they are selling even ones by the glass. The atmosphere is always great great place to socialize. My opinion if you have a question about the wine use your Corkze app to review the wine.

I love stopping by the Corkscrew. They have great wine at reasonable prices. It helps that they have friendly servers to match the warm and inviting atmosphere. It’s a great spot be at no matter the occasion!

Tis is my favorite part of Birkdale. It’s a great stop during any season. In the warm weather, we love to have a glass of wine outside and when it’s cold, we head inside for a cozy couch.
The wine selection changes frequently while the staff has been there forever. That makes for an excellent combination. They’re very knowledgable and friendly!
Send the kids across the street for a Ben & Jerry’s while you enjoy a nice glass of wine!

I live in the area so this is a favorite place of mine to visit when in need of a drink and people watching atmosphere. For the most part, you don’t come here for an amazing wine experience, but rather for the social experience. They have some decent wines and the menu has been updated a few times for wines by the glass. However, you are always welcome to grab a bottle from the shelves.
Some of my favorite things about this place:
Great patio. Quite a bit of seating for a non-​restaurant location in the village, but it can be hard to find a table on the weekends if you come ‘too late’. However, if you linger/​lurk/​keep your eye open for a bit, you may be able to grab a table from folks leaving for their dinner reservations or movie date. Definitely a great people watching spot!
Friendly faces. I love that I can come here and will likely run into a few people I know. I realize that may also be a function of being a ‘vilage’ resident but it’s nice. Of course, there can be draw backs to that, but for most part I like it.
The servers are very friendly and remember their regulars. However, they can get pretty swamped at times and it may take awhile for you to be able to place your order.
Things I wish they would improve:
Snacks. While they do have some, they are relatively low cost/​not fancy and served on plastic plates with ‘napkins’ that come from a towel dispenser (like you might find in the restroom). It doesn’t stop me from getting the snacks, but real napkins would be nice :)
The need to wait to place an order, even at the bar. It can take some time but if you know the server, you may be able to get their attention by name. But if you don’t, they may not always ‘notice’ you, as I’ve seen a few times servers busily drying glasses while I’m standing at the bar waiting to place an order.
Overall, those things don’t stop me from coming and it is definitely a favorite watering hole of mine on the weekend or even a weeknight.

We met up with family before eating dinner in Birkdale and spent our wait time sipping wine and hanging out! It was fantastic! They have a bar, high tops, and couches! Excellent setting and very good wine selection!
