I can not say enough great things about my stay at The Tamarack! My mother and I had to change our dates at the last minute, and unfortunately all the cabins were already booked. So we ended up in the motel in room #3 which was so rustic and we absolutely loved it! Two huge extra comfy double beds, log cabin walls, great mountain décor and has a great parking spot designated just for you. The restaurant is right inside the Lodge’s lobby, with really delicious food. The ribs were awesome and the chicken quesadillas are a must have too. Enjoyed some time at their cozy bar watching the Monday night football game with the super friendly bartender, and with the very cool locals as well. Thanks so much guys — what a fun time! You are just outside(about a 5 – 10 minute drive) the west entrance to Glacier National Park, but still tucked up nicely in the forest to get that magical, ‘I’m in Montana’ feeling. A HUGE thank you to Misty and Sabrina for going above and beyond for my mother and I! Your lodge, your kindness and friendly atmosphere has left an everlasting impression on us, and we will back next year for sure :) P. S. The negative comments about internet access are just ridiculous. Who even thinks about that stuff when you are in such beautiful country. You’re in Hungry Horse Montana, enjoy the view instead…

First, up front, this review does not apply to the cabins here. We booked our room through –a five night stay. At no time did the property indicate that the room was on the second floor and that there was no elevator. After we checked in and found out our room was on second floor we were dismayed. The only access to the room was on a quite steep, narrow staircase. Over a five night, four day stay, we would have had to navigate these stairs at least 20 times. I have a Handicapped placard due to severe degenerative arthritis in hips and in left knee, the latter being a service connected disability. I do stairs with great difficulty. My wife also has a Handicapped placard due to an ankle that is bone on bone and she incurs great pain when navigating stairs. We simply could not stay in this hotel. The woman who checked us in was completely unsympathetic bordering on rude. She offered now accommodation to us beyond offering to help us get our luggage to the room. She adamantly refused to even consider refunding either our deposit or the amount she charged to our credit card when we checked in. I asked her why she didn’t make a point of telling potential customers that some rooms were not ADA compliant. Her response was that if we had called directly instead of going through , she would have told us about the stairs. This, of course, begs the issue of why the description of the room on did not contain the same information. It was dark. We had driven all day. We had no place now to stay. And we were out more than 700 dollars for a room in which we could not stay. As I left her office after telling her we would not be staying in the room, she ran after me shouting: You better make sure you return those keys or we will bill you 250 more dollars. We only saw the room for about a total of 45 minutes. I can tell you this. The cabins here have received positive reviews. This room, Grizzly, was on second floor of the building that housed the restaurant. It had three beds in it and one hard backed chair. No desk. No table. We saw no dresser, no closet. We could easily hear noise and conversations through the floor. The room is advertised to sleep 4. And that is about all that 4 people could do in this room, because there is no space to do anything else. If you want to stay here, make sure you get a cabin. If they offer you a room on the second floor make sure you get a complete description of the room. And no matter how dissatisfied you may(or may not) be after you see your room, do not expect the management here to refund or give you any financial credit. Or show you any empathy. Again, this review does not apply to the cabins.

I booked this lodge based on the thought that we would be in the Glacier Park boundary. We weren’t, but we were about 10 min away so not too bad. The lady who was on staff wasn’t overly friendly either on check in or check out or buying coffee in the morning. We were also overcharged for our coffee for some reason… The internet is absolutely horrible, I was able to connect once for about 30 seconds to pull up my email but then it cut out the rest of the time we were there. The room was comfortable, but a bit small for the price paid and the bathroom is like a closet. There wasn’t anything terrible about the place, but we wouldn’t stay here again.

We had the best time here. Beautiful cabin. It was mysrlf and my husband, my daughter and two grandchildren and my son. Comfortable, clean, great little store with a restaurant and bar. Had cocktails outside on the patio everynight. Great service and staff. A little close to the highway but other than that it was fantastic. Would definitely stay again

3.5 stars. Stayed 4 nights in one of the family cabins with wife and adult son and daughter. Service was mostly friendly and considerate. PROS: — Clean and quite comfortable. — Location is very convenient to Glacier National Park. — Towels changed daily if you wish, and garbage removed. You’ll need to make your own bed(which is fine). After 3 nights, a thorough cleaning is done(eg change bedsheets) unless one requests otherwise. — Restaurant(BBQ Shak) located on-site. We dined there our first night and were satisfied. Best for those who like country & western music. — Coffee and pastries available for purchase in the morning. — Outdoor play area for small kids. Llama on-site. Beaver dam a short 300 yard walk away. We didn’t see a beaver but did see a deer and ground squirrels. CONS: — Wi-Fi internet access almost unusable. One of our PCs would connect but the speed was not much better than dial-up. The other PC would not even connect — despite good signal strength. — Pillows: foam. I couldn’t get comfortable with them, but my fussy wife liked them. — Traffic noise at night. There is no air conditioning so one sleeps with the windows open. The traffic on Hwy 2 is constant and quite noisy.

Food was delicious at the restaurant. Staff was really friendly. Property was clean. We didn’t stay the night, just ate at the restaurant.

This place was really quaint. The owner not only described the rooms available, he walked us to a couple to let us see what they looked like. The staff and him were warm and friend. We came in without reservations, doing an ad lib road trip, and they didn’t bat an eye. The rooms have been recently remodeled and shine. The kitchen makes smoked chicken and ribs which were juicy(which sometimes dries out when smoking) and delicious. They also listened to our plan of attack for glacier park and gave us tips to improve our trip.

Years ago, my best friend and I decided to take a little roadtrip from Seattle to Las Vegas, and we were going to stop at Glacier National Park along the way. It was a birthday present to myself. BESTBIRTHDAYEVER. And you know why? Because we got to stay at the Historic Tamarack Lodge while we were visiting Glacier. We were trying to go cheap. They offered fairly inexpensive rooms(the double unit cabin) for the two of us, with two queen beds, and we didn’t need anything else. We booked the room from the great, low low price they were offering and were happy-dancing that this trip of ours was becoming a reality. Then I got an e-mail stating the room we chose had been over-sold. Basically, at the exact time we were pressing our Confirm button, someone else was 5 seconds quicker. The room was not ours :( Fortunately for us, the owner apologized profusely and offered us a free upgrade to a FAMILYCABIN. Like, two bedrooms, a kitchen, a balcony and bbq, and just the works. Can I get a hell yea?! But seriously, it was such an amazing gesture. He was in no way obligated to do that for us. Anyone else woulda said«Sorry Charlie» and lost a customer. Or had us purchase an upgrade. But not this dude. To this day, I’m still amazed at how lovely the whole Historic Tamarack complex is. I’ve been desperate to go back and visit again, since we only saw a small part of Glacier, and I would definitely, DEFINITELY stay here. I’m sure we won’t be able to afford the big honkin’ cabins, but who cares? When the staff is so awesome and they clearly care about their guests, a cardboard box on the property would be better than a Super 8. The only thing I’m sad about was leaving my favorite ring behind :(Totally not their fault, though.

Only issue we had is that we couldn’t stay longer. Simple, clean, spacious and quiet.

From the homey and welcoming atmosphere with plenty of taxidermied animals, historical artifacts, and exposed wood; to the friendly and knowledgable staff, the Tamarack Lodge delivered beyond my expectations. It’s location also provides easy access to Glacier NP, Bigfork, and Whitefish. I would strongly recommend it to anyone traveling in the area.

We loved it here! We were referred here and they had availability for the week we were coming and booked a cabin last-minute. The owner was VERY nice and personable from our first point of contact through the day we handed in the keys. We stayed in a cabin that had a kitchenette and was fully stocked with anything you needed including a grill, a great bathroom with hot water and good water pressure. It wasn’t a hotel feel and it wasn’t a log-cabin feel, but it was just in between where you felt cozy and at home but felt like you were on vacation. I would say the beds & standard white towels were really the only hotel-ish feel.(And I don’t say this in a negative way. We rented some condos on the trip and some of the beds were awful in these homes, the cabins were comfortable). The staff was VERY friendly and knowledgeable about the areas, and made some great suggestions and provided maps to various places. There was stuff on site(volleyball, bonfires, etc). If we ever visit glacier I doubt we’d stay anywhere else. The location between glacier park attractions and the quaint town of whitefish was convenient. Unless you are high-maintenence I think you’d be silly to stay elsewhere.

5 star motel? I’m not 5 starring because it is a 5 star hotel, but because of the excellent down-to-earth staff and proximity to Glacier Park. After 2 days there, I was ready to settle in with the locals. Whether it was enjoying a glass of wine on the front porch with the owner and other guests, or a cool beer by the fire with a real cowboy neighbor strumming the guitar, we had a blast from start to finish. If you are looking for a low-key, rustic cabin and a laid back crew — don’t miss the Tamarack Lodge.
