Hippo Burgers

I can’t believe I forgot to review this place. It’s a tiny Ma/​Pa place, but it’s super clean and the food is excellent! I had the bacon cheese burger basket. The hamburger was nice and juicy and the french fries were big fat and yummy. The cook/​cashier is friendly. I will definitely be back for more.

Yum… Burger was huge and tasty fries were very delicious the only thing I didn’t like very much was the milkshake I’m guessing it’s because they’re not using Blue Bell, but whatever the replacement was, was not very sweet

AMAZING BURGERS! Huge, juicy, delicious burgers for a great price. Hands down the best burger I’ve ever had. They also have Mexican coke! Yummy!

The exterior took some courage to go in but it was worth it. The hamburgers and fries are delicious and the portions are huge. We will come back.

Five stars all the way! I’ll admit when I pulled in the drive I was surprised this little, yellow shack had a perfect rating on Unilocal,but it deserves it.
Yes, $ 20 seemed a little high for two burgers, Cajun fries, and onions rings, but the portions are HUGE, they use fresh ingredients, and the food is super delicious.
If you are craving a burger, I highly recommend Hippo. They are open Mon-​Sat 11am-​8pm.

Truly one of the hidden spots everyone needs to find. It’s not the fanciest place but the burgers are awesome, huge, flavorful and reasonably priced. You might not even need a side order but, in case you do, go for the onion rings!!! Get there early for lunch because there’s not a ton of seating. You’re gonna love this place!

this place is a real gem. The seasoning on the burgers is spot on. Just great all-​around. I liked the bread, and the fries were pretty good (not the best battered fries I’ve had, but still plenty good for my 5 stars). Kudos to the owners for making a good solid product at this place. Great burger. Give it a try: you won’t be disappointed.

Saw the rave reviews on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. I was NOT disappointed. The parking is not very accomadating to my Nissan Titan but fortunately it was during the week so I was able to get in. There were lots of cars in the grass but only 1 other customer inside. Not sure what that was about.
I ordered the spicy fries and a burger with bacon and jalapenos. The first bite of the burger shot my review up to 4 stars immediately. Deliciously seasoned burger, juicy, and I could taste the bacon (which is often seen but not sensed at some places). The spicy fries were just that. Combined with the jalapenos, I was getting the food sweats. Next time I’ll take it down a notch but I persevered. I took my time eating the burger. I just wanted to savor every bite.
There is a small seating area maybe accomodating a dozen people so it’s not conducive to crowds. It’s an enclosed porch with no-​screen windows and come summertime, the flies will be joining you for lunch. With some improvements with the facilities, this place is a definite winner. I will be going back to try some of the other burger choices and fries options.

Now thats a burger! Seriously, they dethrown Petes Burger. The bun is completely unique, very similar to a bun on a torta. The burger is huge, and the fries are amazing. I had a shake there too, which was very good. Everything is very reasonable. Dont let the small building fool ya.

I was disappointed at first but then everything worked out.
The burgers are not made of Hippo. I have never had hippo meat so I was looking forward to trying the meat of an animal that is almost extinct.
I know hippo meat has got to be hard to get, but I thought maybe they had a deal worked out with the Houston Zoo.
I ordered the Hippo Special that had bacon and Jalapeño’s on it. ???

Anyways, I had the hippo special. The bacon and Jalapeño’s (WTH?) really set off the burger and added to the delicious flavor of the juicy meat.
Excellent seasoning on my burger. They have awesome buns. Both guys in the back, that is.
I think they were using ground beef.
I had the buffalo fries to go with my burger, but they were just regular fries made from potatoes with buffalo sauce on them.
They were excellent even though they weren’t made from real buffalo.
The window person asked if I wanted Mexican coke. Hell yea!!!
I figured it’s got to be better than that baby formula cut crap you get in the fifth ward from the sling blades. I’ve tried Peruvian coke but never Mexican coke.
First problem? I couldn’t find a straw.
You will never guess what he gave me. A damn coca cola. I was so disappointed.
All in all a super great beef burger and awesome potato fries.
Make sure you stop in. Parking is a lil tight but it’s worth it.

Stupid good burger and garlic fries! My husband and I shared the mushroom burger and it was delicious! The patties are seasoned perfectly! We ordered a kids cheese burger and a strawberry shake for our little one and she approves also!
The place really is a shack but who cares as long as the food is tasty! The only complaint I have, if you can call it that is they serve soda in cans. This is a waste to me! It is far more cost effective to have soda on tap! This definitely is NOT a deal breaker!

Honestly, what more can be said than what’s already been said? The people there are friendly and they cook your food on the spot. Doesn’t take that long, either. The burgers taste great and the fries are seasoned to perfection. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

If you looking a BIG burger without paying BIG bucks, Hippo Burger is your place. It’s the classic «hole in the wall» joint that you can take your family or friends to for a delicious experience. The burgers are so HUGE, the meat is very Juicy, the fries are seasoned to perfection and the wait time is not bad at all. I’m saying bye to Dirty Juicy Burger because Hippo Burger has my vote from now on!

From the outside it looks like a burger shack and the inside is simplistic. You order from a window and pay at the window afterward. The burgers were fantastic! Fluffy soft bread and meat that had that charbroiled taste. French fries were perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth.
I ordered the avocado burger and my husband ordered the mushroom burger. We shared a basket of cheesy fries and we topped it off with homemade milk shakes. The owner was very friendly. We will most definitely be back.

I am in LOVE with this place, they are a little pricy but its worth it, Make sure you order the Garlic Fries and They use real meat and its seasoned…
A Must Try

This is my first review so hopefully it’s helpful. First, the burgers are huge! I got the Texas burger and my girlfriend got the bacon and jalepeno burger. Second, the chili was good, wasn’t too much chili where it makes the burger uneatable with too much chili.
Third, the patty was flavorless. Didn’t seem like he used any seasoning on the meat, not even salt. If the meat was seasoned I’m sure the burger would be really good. Overall both of our burgers were «ok» and for the price I thought it would be a really good burger. 2 burgers and 1 side of fries came out to be almost $ 20.
We went back to try their sno cones. Don’t try their sno cones. They were terrible.
I think that was the last time we will go there. It’s not worth the price.
