Extra Space Storage

20 months ago after I sold my mother’s house in Sudbury [her dementia allowed me to do that without her knowledge], I packed up boxes and bins and put them along with a few pieces of furniture into a unit at Extra Space Storage in Hudson. [Big thanks to Out of the Box Moves in Belmont who was amazing with the packing and putting everything into the unit in a very organized way so I could easily access them.] I was very pleased with the location and price of my initial storage unit. At that time, manager Gary was professional, easy to work with. Then 18 months later, I decided to downsize and current manager Luis is wonderful — Knowledgeable, personable, very nice to work with. Because he works on Saturdays, Luis made it easy for me to implement the downsizing. And two months later once I’d gotten rid of most of what was left, he helped me close out the smaller unit. This has been a stressful time, and I can’t thank Luis enough for his assistance and support. I highly recommend Extra Space Storage at 565 Main Street in Hudson! Judy W.

So far, so good. As a business owner myself, I’m incredibly impressed with the marketing and customer facing machine the corporate home office has created. Our rental experience was very easy. Luis was very pleasant and professional. We had an issue with the first unit we were shown, and he gladly showed us others he had available. Ultimately we found one we were happy with. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is that access is limited to 6 am to 10 pm. The chances I’ll be in desperate need of something at 3 am is slight, but it seemed that 24-​hour access shouldn’t have been difficult. I’m sure it’s a cost of insurance thing.

In June, I wrote the following Unilocal review: «This place is a rip-​off. The storage fees go up multiple times a year. I don’t recommend this as a long-​term solution.»
Extra Space Storage responded: 6÷10÷2015 Rob, we do occasionally raise our rent in order to keep up with costs associated to the cleanliness and security of the facility. We apologize for any inconvenience.
While I appreciate the response, I want to be clear — the cost for the rental units has increased A LOT — by 27%. My monthly bill in August of 2014 was $ 191. After multiple increases, my bill this month is $ 242. That’s over $ 600 a year more than what I was paying 11 months ago on a unit that was originally under $ 200.
It’s a free country. Extra Space Storage can increase fees as much as they want as often as they want. I have the choice to leave when I can take the time to move everything.
However, I want consumers to know the facts.
I recommend researching storage facilities before going with this one. Find out if they treat their customers fairly.

We had a very positive experience at Extra Space Storage in Hudson. Gary was so helpful, professional, and attentive. We had to extend our storage time, and Extra Space was very accommodating. My husband and I wholeheartedly recommend this company!
