We went there in May 2016, we hard about it for years and decided to go on a Thursday night for our anniversary. Arrived at 5PM, we were greeted and walked through a maze of a restaurant to our seats. We of course sit next to the wait staff entry door, really… it was ok. The waitress was very nice and she had a new waiteress in training. The stuff mushrooms were huge and great. Our drinks were good, regular bloodys. Our salad was good, our dinners wow, awesome. I had the pot roast, mash potates dinner, huge and was very filling, had to take a lot home. My wife had the smothered chicken, very good, except way to much sauce, could not find it at first. lol. Ordered a dessert, the slice of pie was huge and still to big, we had to take so much home, and we are eaters… ha ha. very nice décor(farm building). the area is nice. Loved every minute of it. We are picky on our resturants. This one will be our go to spot. Want to go there tonight. cant go wrong.

If not for the buy one get one free, this place is not that great. My wife and I both ordered the tenderloin 12 ounce. With potatoes and veggies. Every thing was cold. We both ordered medium cooked, hers was great mine was more well done than medium. If not for our excellent waitress Nicole, this would have been a total bummer. Definitely better chunks of meat elsewhere. Tenderloins should be tender. These 2 steaks were a bit rough and tough.

It was my wife’s birthday so we wanted to try some place new. Heard that almost everything on the menu was buy one get one free so I made a reservation for early supper on a Saturday night. There were 4 in our party and when we arrived we wanted to have a drink first. Yes, drinks are pricey but the brandy old-fashions were delicious and served in a large glass, so to us it was like having 2 drinks in 1 glass! Our hostess had given us a pager when we arrived so like I told her, in 45 minutes she took us to our table. As I said, it was early about 4:45 by then and there were just a few people seated at tables. We got to sit close to the beautiful fireplace and it felt good since it was rainy outside. Our waitress, Nicole, brought menus and made us feel welcome. She told us the specials and gave us time to look over the menu. In a few minutes she returned and happily took our orders PLUS she did us a favor and used our phones to take pictures of the 4 of us. We decided to order one of the nightly specials, filet & lobster. It was included in the BOGO deal because it was a special. I can only say the meal was absolutely delicious. Our guests ordered the Wisconsin Beer Cheese soup. It was piping hot and very delicious. We had a tossed salad with a nice French dressing. All of our steaks were prepared as ordered and seemed larger than Nicole had mentioned. Very tender, well seasoned, and juicy. The 5 oz. lobster tail was equally good, don’t think it was drawn butter but I just added a pat of butter to the little pan that was above the candle and with the lemon it tasted great. Each meal came with a large serving of roasted mushrooms, broccoli and carrot medley and large baked potato or fries or rice, I think. A nice sized loaf of hot crispy bread was brought to the table for us to cut. Dessert was offered as BOGO free also, but 2 of us couldn’t even finish our meals so took home the leftover steak pieces, no room for the delicious sounding desserts. As we went outside, we realized we’d forgotten our box with the steak in it, but a staff member must have noticed and ran out to give it to us! We did warm up the steak the next day and it tasted just as good as it was the night before. Lots of little special touches that made our evening really special. There was only 1 problem: When we left at approximately 5:30, the place was jammed. It was a Saturday night but the parking lot was filled and we had a slight problem trying to figure out how to get back on the highway!!! We went around the huge parking lot twice and finally exited by the sign that said, «Do not Enter!». So, do make a reservation, take pictures, enjoy the food and ambiance. It was a wonderful celebration for us.

More like 3 ½ stars. We went to Fox & Hounds for their breakfast buffet/brunch. The buffet was fully stocked with more lunch food than breakfast. Lots & lots of meat options! The cordon bleu was delicious! It’s a little bit of a drive from the city but there’s plenty of parking.

This was my first visit to Fox and Hounds, though my dad has talked about it for 20 plus years and said he’d have to take me there some day. Well, today was THE day. We went for Sunday Brunch and the food was delicious, the restaurant itself is pretty cool, and Nicole was our waitress. She is AWESOME! So bubbly and friendly. I will definitely be back one day… though I do live in Las Vegas, NV now, lol, so it may be a while.

I remember back in the day when this restaurant had wonderful food and great service. It was pricey but worth it as a special place to go. Fast forward 15 years — My visit two months ago was very disappointing. Service was mediocre at best, entrees are totally overpriced(I think they’re trying to make up for the buy one get one free) and lacked creativity and taste(except for salt), the noise was horrific, and I sure don’t like being seated in a restaurant where I feel packed in like a sardine. The only saving grace was the dessert, peanut butter pie, but, alas, it too was buy one get one free and overpriced.

Cold potatoes, mediocre fish and shrimp. Not very good service. The best part was the ride there.

Love Fox and Hounds! This is my absolute favorite place for brunch. The drive to the restaurant is gorgeous and the restaurant itself is beautiful. My family and I make the long drive(about 45 minutes from downtown) from Milwaukee for special occasions. Sunday brunch offers many options and there is a crazy selection of pastries, desserts and meat! If you are a vegan, this is probably not the place; although there are options if you are a vegetarian. Service is always great and the staff is excellent with small children and large groups. If you enjoy delicious food in unbelievably beautiful scenery, this is the place for you!

I was very excited to finally get to this place with my fiancée after hearing great things. Unfortunately, a majority of the experience was too much of a let-down to overcome. Let’s start with the good: Décor and ambiance. The place had a great, old-time, Northwoods feel to it. I was especially a fan of the«pub» in the basement. Sadly, that’s all the«good» I have to say about this place on our experience. We started off barely being able to get in the door, as they had about 50 people just milling around the entrance. I understand you are busy, but maybe herd these people down to the pub or something while waiting. We go to get a drink at the bar, pretty simple order, vodka cranberry, and a brandy old fashioned. I watched the bartender pour the vodka cranberry, with barely a half ounce of(rail) vodka in it. My old fashioned was made with some kind of pre-made mix. Now I don’t mind mixes and rail liquor at the corner bar in West Allis, but when I’m paying close to $ 9/per for these«cocktails», these were just a plain ripoff. On to dinner: Now, I gave this place a positive in the ambiance… However, we were placed in literally the farthest corner of the restaurant(wading through the mass of people), in probably the only room without a fireplace, next to cold, drafty windows, a good 15 degrees colder than the rest of the joint. I ended up ordering the Prime Rib(a Saturday special) with mashed potatoes and vegetables. My fiancée ordered a stuffed chicken over pasta dish. We both elected to have French Onion soup as our«included» side(It wasn’t actually included, we ended up paying NINEDOLLARS per bowl, talk about sticker shock when the bill came.) The soup was good(not $ 9/bowl good), but the dinner itself was downright awful. Everything came out cold. My steak was barely edible, with over ¾ of it being pure fat and gristle. Fiancée’s dish was extremely bland(despite having a «red pepper sauce» — no flavor or spice), and surprise surprise, cold. Steak, Chicken, pasta, potatoes, everything. Cold, cold, cold. If I’m going to eat crappy food, I prefer it to at least be hot crap. We ordered two more drinks at dinner, and asked the prices on some of them before we ordered(based on our earlier drink ripoff). The waiter told us $ 7 for the basic martinis. Fiancée ordered a chocolate martini, I ordered a hot buttered rum. Once again, very lacking on any alcohol in these drinks. Pretty sure mine was just«buttered hot chocolate»(is there even supposed to be chocolate in a hot buttered rum?). And then bill time came, and surprise surprise… Fiancée got charged $ 10 for the martini, after being told $ 7. Add on another $ 9 for my «hot chocolate», and by this time enough was enough… $ 90+ for dinner/drinks later… and honestly I would have preferred to save the drive time and ESPECIALLY the cash, and not have come to this place at all. Imagine my fury if they didn’t have their buy one, get one. I’ve had better meals at my local McDonalds, than I had here. Major punch to date night, and our wallets.

Its a hike from Milwaukee but worth it for good food. Make sure you have a booking — the wait can be long if you don’t have one. Service was fantastic, staff was friendly and helpful! Beautiful Christmas décor — make sure you take a walk around all of the dining rooms. Was a little disappointed I did not have a cloth napkin. The Onion Stack was excellent! I had the prime rib dinner, broccoli alfredo soup, steamed veggies and the garlic mash. The soup was a knock out of the park — very well done, very tasty with lots of flavor. The steamed vegies were just OK — slightly over cooked. The prime rib had good flavor, was cooked how I ordered it, however was lacking that bit of crust normally served on prime rib. The au jus was excellent! Garlic mash was presented well and was not overpowering with garlic. Overall, definitely a place I would like to go back to.

Stopped in at 500 on Sunday night after a holiday concert at holy hill church. Seated at 530. Ordered right away. We were blessed with an exceptional server, Monica did a very nice job. We ordered the surf/turf for both meals and since they have an everyday special, buy one/get one free we had a very reasonable dinner. Took home veggies and baked potato left overs. I would recommend and return again. We especially enjoyed the Christmas decorations and the beauty of the surrounding area.

This place is just a down right awesome family restaurant. The atmosphere and décor is distinctly traditional Wisconsin, i.e. welcoming, warm, and woodsy. The menu is pretty extensive and has something for everyone. Not only that, but everything is very well made and tasty. When you come here with your family, you can be guaranteed to have a great time, full of laughter, love, and good food.

I come here with the family everytime I come home. The food is pretty good and they always have the buy 1 get 1 free entrée special, which is definitely required considering this is quite an expensive restaurant for where it is. It is always packed with people so reservations are definitely recommended for the weekend. They have fish fries on Friday which are very good. Their fish in general is good. I love the bread they give at the beginning of the meal as well. Overall it’s a decent place to eat but nothing outstanding.

Oh the joyous deliciousness of a perfectly cooked filet mignon! I love comfort food and Fox & Hounds Restaurant provided me with that delicious feeling that only a filet can bring. I generally don’t order one of these because I am usually disappointed, and my husband is a wonderful cook. However, this one was spot on! The meal service was exceptional, starting with the restaurant’s accommodating nature for our ever-changing plans. Given this was a larger party for graduation, and the fact that the reservations were made well in advance, they were extremely accommodating for our party. I call that great customer service! Our server was very attentive but did not hover. He took our orders and brought out our meal in a timely fashion. He even listened to the mother of the graduate when she requested the bill be given to her versus her father-in-law who wanted to pay. The prices were what I would expect. However, we were given the added bonus of a 2 for 1 special and the entire bill was half than what my girlfriend expected to pay. Excellent food, superb customer service, top notch restaurant.

I will not go back! Ate there last night. Had their buy 1 get 1 free special. Even so, for four of us it was $ 130, and we only had soda to drink. I have been there many times over the past twenty five years, but the quality of the food has just gone down so much in the past few years. This was no exception. Tough grades of steak, ribs that tasted like they were reheated from leftovers and vegetables that were anything but fresh. It is a shame. They have an excellent location and a very charming building, but it can not make up for overpriced, low quality food and unremarkable service. I would go elsewhere.

I would have actually given this restaurant 4 or 4.5 stars but I went with a rather large group and decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. The restaurant is WAY off the beaten path. When you are finally sure you must have passed it and double check the GPS that’s when it finally appears. The outside has a very German look about it. Very cool. Because of the large group we were limited to shrimp alfredo, lemon mushroom chicken, walleye(which I found tempting) and their famous prime rib. That’s what I had. It was good. A bit overcooked but not much. Still it was delicious. The wait staff was excellent. The ambiance was as well.

Came in to a 6:30 reservation on Saturday night that we rushed to get to only to have 4 hungry people wait 30+ minutes near the crowded bar. There were some good beers on tap including Dogfish Head 90 minute, but it was next to impossible to talk to my company with the standing /crowding issues. I understand unexpected eating times, but there were a whole lot of people waiting. Everyone raved about the prime rib, and that’s basically what we were all there for. We all ordered in relatively short order once the waitress finally showed up, but it still took quite a bit of time to to get the bread(granted, it was pretty tasty) and eventually our meals. My medium rare prime rib was very medium(as was everyone else’s) — kind of a bad deal if that’s the special. The cake that I shared was pretty tasty though and overall the location looks like a nice place to enjoy a meal. The bogo gimmick is nice for keeping out the single seaters I guess, but still seems like a bit more gimmick than deal. It does make for a good excuse to get a second dessert though. The location is pretty and the building is cool — but some things definitely need to be worked on.

«At home he feels like a tourist. He fills his head with culture. He gives himself an ulcer.» — Gang of Four. My wife and I were being tourists and visiting Holy Hill for the first time. Photography in the cold made us both hungry. We saw the Fox & Hounds large sign and decided to check it out. The sign says one mile south, but I believe it’s further than that. We found the restaurant and there were many cars, good sign. RUSTIC. The décor is amazing and unexpected. The building started as a one-room cabin in 1845. It’s been a restaurant since 1933. We were greeted by a hostess and seated. The Sunday lunch menu was pretty boring so the waitress explained their BUFFET. We took a look and decided upon that. The place was uncomfortably full of people. The tables are too close together and simply walking to the buffet and back required some bringing in of elbows and fancy foot work. All the while there are wait staff with plates and hot coffee to contend with also. It wasn’t loud though, all the dead animals on the wall must deaden the sound. Our waitress was a pro, could tell she had given the same instructions five thousand times to where she pretty much interrupted and answered for you. Slightly annoying. The buffet was $ 14.99 each. It had a mixture of breakfast and lunch items. Highlights were corned beef hash, sliced sirloin, crab salad, garlic mashed potatoes and cole slaw. COMFORTFOOD. There was pickled herring which was unusual and tasty. The dessert tables are large! Lots of small bites, made in house by the same baker. I tried a few of them, standard combinations of chocolate, peanut butter, fruit. A chocolate coconut macaroon was especially good. Brad E’s review breaks down the buffet options nicely. VERDICT: The building is full blast rustic charm. The service is small town friendly and attentive. The buffet food was okay. I wouldn’t make the thirty minute trip to only dine here but if being a tourist again in the area or showing family the area, I would visit again. SOCIALMEDIA: The Fox & Hound are hip to social media with their own YouTube channel and are on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.
