Howell Red Moon Restaurant & Pizzeria

We’ve been ordering from Red Moon for 9 years and although the food is a bit inconsistent it has typically been fair at a minimum and is usually good to great but I’m over it with the service. They are simply rude and very poor business people. Not a new issue but it’s gotten worse. They added me to their text club which sends promos and coupons. When you go to redeem one they rarely know what you’re talking about. Yesterday they send out a large pizza for 9.50 on Thurs ⁶⁄₈. Well ⁶⁄₈ was actually a Wed. We didn’t realize and ordered on Thursday. They gave us such a hard time and then I see I was charged $ 11.11 for a 9.50 pizza with the tax. Doesn’t add up and the receipt clearly said in red letters free delivery. The girl on the phone even said they knew of the issue but were refusing to honor it. That’s fine, keep your coupon and the sneaky $ 0.90. Hope it was worth loosing a loyal weekly customer over.

Used to order from here all the time. It was always descent. Since they reopened after the fire they have been more miss than hit. Not to mention they are obnoxious when you have to deal with them.

A pizzeria and italian restaurant thats been around for decades. Great food, great pizza and a very elegant atmosphere…

We have been going to Red Moon in Howell for over 20 years. Since they reopened after the fire it seem to be very hit or miss. We have gotten several pies that have been very soggy.
Other food has been fine, but I hate stopping on the way home for a pie only to open it up to a soggy mess. It’s not any better if I have it delivered.
I am not sure what the issue is but it was the go to place for pizza for 20 years. Please fix it.

Been having cravings for pizza several times a week, and always pizza from this wonderful establishment. Have been ordering pizza once a week from here with different sizes and multiple toppings each time. Pepperoni and onions, mushrooms, anchovies, x-​cheese, plain and «white» pies w/​x-​garlic. All I can say is I can’t get enough. I would like to offer some advice: Don’t order a white pie AND a regular pie with anchovies: There is a flavor conflict between the garlic and the anchovies.

I have been ordering food from Red Moon for 14 years. Always loved the food & the pizza. I am very critical being born & raised in Brooklyn… since they have reopened after the fire, the food has been awful. I thought the one time I ordered Chicken Picata it was an off night. but the sauce had no taste.& it tasted like it came out of a jar… now I ordered pasta with red calm sauce & calamari in red sauce. The sauce on the calms was as if they just dumped any red sauce on it & one of the calms were cracked… I would never eat a cracked calm. afraid I would get sick. The calamari was so tough you couldn’t even chew it. We threw away our entire dinner. I am done with Red Moon.

We chanced upon this place while trying to kill a couple of hours in Howell. It is in a newish strip mall with the usual diner, Chinese restaurant, and pizzeria. Uncertain as to whether to choose the Red Moon or the diner, we noticed a bunch of police cars in the parking lot and correctly assumed they were arriving for lunch, so we waited to see where the inhabitants went. The Red Moon was their first choice so we followed them in. It is always a good bet that the cops will chose the best place to eat and we were not proven wrong. The Red Moon was hands down the best pizza we have had since we moved down here from North Jersey. The service was great, the food offerings more varied and healthy than in most pizzerias and the pizza was authentic with a great crust and the right proportion of cheese to sauce, with quality cheese. We are very picky about our pizza, and I rarely enjoy eating pizza unless it is perfectly prepared so we were happy to find this place. We will be back again and again.

I’ve been going to Red Moon since I was a child and loved their food growing up as did my family. There was a fire in late 2014 that closed the place up for many months and I ordered from Luigi’s down the street which was equally good and maybe a little even better. They re-​opened in April or May of this year and I went back to ordering from Red Moon immediately but the food was not the same, I figured it was new ovens and they needed to break them in. After about 4 more visits the food had never improved and the service was even worse! My family ate in the restaurant section last month and had an extremely RUDE waitress but I did not get her name and I swore the place off. But being I’ve ordered from there my entire life I gave it another shot a few weeks later and placed a phone order. Kerry took my order and I immediately realized it was the rude waitress from before, she took my order and said it would be 30 – 45 minutes. 55 minutes later I called and asked where my order was and Kerry EXTREMELY rudely told me that she never said it would be 30 – 45 minutes and basically told me off and exactly how it was, she knew all and was the Red Moon Queen and that I am but a measly Customer and have no even the shape of a pizza and should act accordingly. So I will continue to ask Luigi’s what shape a pizza is and call them at 732−364−5008 to ask what shape a pizza is and what time it will be at my home. If you are in town skip Red Moon and go ANYWHERE ELSE! There’s another pizza place across the street that’s better a Pizza Hut and Dominos close by also if you like that.

The food was decent enough to warrant three stars, but the people behind the counter were so unwelcoming and borderline rude. There is a red moon in Lawrenceville where the food is far better and the people are much nicer. I thought there would be a very slim chance that the two locations would have any connection, and after visiting this place I can say with certainty that they have nothing to do with each other.

So glad they are back. they are the closest to NY pizza around. just one thing since they opened. they need to cook their pies more. i figured it was because of the rush at the beginning hope it will go back the way it was before

Amazing food all around. Very friendly crew. Just redone from a recent fire of a nearby business and the place looks very modern

I get it east coast peeps love thier pizza and I do too and when I moved here this was one of the places suggested.
Had take out, delivery AND dine in so here is my review.
Dine in– 8 times since June 2013. Service spot on. Portions huge! raviloi, linguini and clam sauce, pizzas and salads we have trried probably 20 + different dishes no complaints, they do get large crowds after sport events or large party dinners but the service doesn’t lack even in the businest of nights. I really love the buffalo chicken pizza I have to say I wasn’t all SURE when hubby suggested it but ya know it was amazing. The sauce was not buffalo screaming hot it was tangy but tasty, the chicken was not breaded it was naked and that is a huge plus I don’t want breaded chicken on a pizza that’s already bread. kow what I mean? anyway the cheese was perfect portion of gooeyness and the crust was crispy tasty I even ate the end crust something I rarely ever do! and yes, we ate the WHOLLLE thing. Buffalo chicken pizza, is now one of our go to pizzas.
The Milano pizza –also another I wasn’t so sure but once again I was surprised.
Take out-​delivery– 10x’s (maybe more). On Mon-​Wed they have a special X-​LG plain pizza for $ 8.99 thats a 16″ pie. Dine in, carry out or delivery WHAT?! WOW and ya know those things are flying out of the store on those nights, so we had to try and the quality was just as good on delivery and take out as it was dining in.
Cuz people won’t keep going to a place and spending hard earned money on food no matter how great the price, if the food is crappy.
So ya know I am not sure whats going on with the other reviews on this place but we have had great meals everytime, and we will stay loyal customers.

My family has been getting food from Red Moon for over 27 years and the food is great for the price. Cheesesteaks, chicken parms, and any hot sandwiches are great. The sicilian pizza is hands down the best in the area.
Pretty much anything you order will be good. They do get super busy on Friday — Sunday so definitely order ahead of time.
Joe (owner) is a great guy and has been around for a long time. I even use to work there back in the day delivering food.

Red Moon in Howell is a local favorite. I have been going to Red Moon for over 15 years. They make by far the best Chicken Parm sub in New Jersey (I’ve compared). They have a light menu with numerous low fat, low calorie options which is very rare for a small pizza place. The pizza is also great.

Best chicken parm sandwich and great shrimp parm wrap.

I moved to Jackson 6 years ago and have been trying all the Pizza in town and I keep coming back. The staff is friendly and the food is good.

This place is okay but the service is horrible. The workers are foreign and they watch soccer on the television in the store the entire time even as the customers speak to them about their order. When they’re not watching television, they’re taking up tables and eating their own food. ALL THE TIME. They don’t let you sit in the nice dining room unless you get «real food». The other area is a couple broken down tables and chairs and that’s where you sit if you don’t get some type of entrée.
