Well I’ve been to Zilla once before. It was last year at the Haute Wheels food truck festival. And it was pretty darn goon then(but OMG the wait lol) This is one of the trucks thats hard for me to get to due to the hours and where i work(I’m not close at all to any food trucks for lunch hour *weeps*) But i was finally able to catch them at dinner time near my apartment. During the rain at that! :D I had the chicken and waffles and the mac n cheese. Well the mac n cheese is somehow a hundred times better than the first time i had it. And it was good then! It was spicy but oh so cheesy and good. It even had spicy cheetos in it ^^ The chicken and waffles were better too. Whatever they coat their chicken in before frying it is wonderful(a nice spicy sweet flavor) The husband and I will be hunting them down more to try their other goodies. :D

I have had the breakfast burrito twice from this truck. I don’t think it was the same cat cooking both times. The first time this thing blew my mind. Crispy hot bacon, perfectly scrambled eggs, hot salty french fries, and melted cheddar cheese. Sounds simple right? Perfect! Second time: unseasoned over cooked eggs, flappy cold bacon, cold dry cheese, and the sin of all sins unsalted french fries. Dude just threw a pile of ingredients in a large store bought flour tortillas that was nuclear hot from the microwave. I got blisters trying to eat this thing and the inside was stone cold. Do you know what happens to a over microwaved tortilla when it finally cools down? It gets hard and not ply-able. That kinda sucked. The reason I give it three stars is benefit of the doubt, my experience the first time, and I recently tried the gumbo and I gotta say it is better than mine.

Z I L L A S T R E E T E A T S YOUARESODELISHUS! I am in the habit of finding you once a week and eating your delicious food for dinner! I didn’t think the odd menu items could taste so good. Try the quesazilla, it is so yummy, with chicken and delish cheese and jalapenos and peppers, I tell them to make mine extra crispy and they do… oh they do. The perfect crunchy chewy tortilla with gooey spicy cheese and meat inside. ANDITISHUGE! It comes with this homemade sauce I dont know or want to know what it is. I never regret eating Zilla. I never will.

This was Tuesday at Farmers Market in Rice U parking lot. I ordered a Market Burger — Goat Cheese and Arugula. Bam. It was beautiful.

I First happened upon Zilla at the Maple Leaf Pub in Midtown during the Bruins Playoffs(Stanley Cup Champions 2011) and Needed a little something to eat, so I wandered over to the Truck. Although I was really happy to see my all-time favorite Canadian snack(poutine) on the Menu — which I didn’t even know people in Texas Knew what that was — I opted for the Jalapeño Cheddar Dirty Dog… And I am so glad I did! A nicely cooked, sort of crispy skin Jalapeño Cheddar sausage on a very fresh roll as the base followed by what i can only imagine someone coming up with in the middle of the night after much debauchery. Macaroni and Cheese(homemade and gooey) Fresh Cut and Fried French Fries(like my grandmother used to make), Fresh Jalapenos and a piece of Delicious Crispy bacon — Yes — Bacon! I sat there with the rest of the Bruins Fans, enjoying every last morsel. I could not stop talking about it, and managed to give a couple of them a small taste — but managed to keep the rest for myself. Several weeks later while on a Bicycle ride I happened upon the back side of Kung-Fu Saloon on Washington — and the big yellow truck lured me in. No need to weigh myself down with the gigantic dog, I opted for the«lighter» Dirty Fries. Same premise, sans Hotdog and Bacon was replaced with crushed Cheetos — It’s like Cheese Fries on Steroids! During a Work Happy Hour at the same establishment, many of my co-workers got the Chicken and Waffles — also Rave Reviews. If you see the Big Yellow Truck — Don’t Fight It. Go straight for it. You won’t be disappointed!

We were driving down Washington Ave. like 2 bats out of hell and saw this idiotic new Orientalist«Chang Chang me so horny» concept bar called Kung Fu Saloon and before we could yell at the white privileged trendsetters about how they can capitalize on racism in the open we spotted the glorious Zilla Street Eats. Zilla, I know why you park here, cause it pays the bills. The mac and cheese was pretty good — a mix of melted gouda and some other cheesy ingredient, topped with scallions and crushed cheetos. Not a bad idea — but definitely a huge serving for one person.

If you want some late-night satisfaction and you know youz aint gettin laid, eat some dirty fries and finish it off with some deep fried nutter butters. Their food is –dare i say it — orgasmic. I tend to stray from my «vegan» ways after a late night of drinking. They recently started parking their truck outside of Kung Fu and TWICE last week I’ve found myself stuffing my face with their rich ooey gooey dirty fries(gouda mac & cheese slathered on top of fries and sprinkled with more cheese, green onions and crumbled up cheetos). Whenever I see their yellow truck parked somewhere I start to salivate — those deep fried nutter butters are addicting! I always pimp it out and have successfully won many converts. I’ve even joked that I would buy heaps of the stuff and win lure men with it at the bar… Can’t say how spectacular their food is whilst sober, but their food definitely hits the spot. At least this is the one bad decision(the so-good-but-so-bad-for-you kind of decision) I won’t regret in the morning.

I hate to paint them with the«stoner food» brush, but let’s face it, what munchies-plagued individual wouldn’t appreciate Zilla’s «Dirty Fries» — crispy, potatoey french fries topped with gooey mac & cheese, shredded cheese, chopped scallions, and crushed up Cheetos? That’s what I had when I first visted Zilla Street Eats at the Haute Wheels food truck festival. In fact, we were through the gate at 2:00 on the dot, and placed the first two orders of the day at Zilla. We also got the pulled pork mac & cheese, which featured the same al dente penne pasta as on the dirty fries, with a thick cheese blend — which includes gouda, but the coy proprietor wouldn’t divulge the rest — topped with savory pulled pork and chopped scallions. These were some of our favorite dishes from the festival. The next time I strolled up to the Zilla Street Eats window was as they were parked at Liberty Station. I was glad to meet friends on the early side since I’d be able to grab some dinner from the truck. In the spirit of my first Zilla order, I went with the Dirty Hotdog and a side of fries. The fries, as I would discover, were superfluous since the deep-fried dog itself had fries piled on top, along with that rich mac & cheese I keep succumbing to underneath, some shredded cheese on top of the fries, and a few scallions. The end result was a delicious and delightful mess to eat — but a total gut buster. I actually couldn’t quite finish the whole thing, the mac being a dense element that was tough to fight through. The Zilla Street Eats truck is a cartoonish yet dramatically painted vessel, with the namesake ‘Zilla terrorizing the cityscape, and I look forward to further visits — but I might avoid future encounters with that heavy mac & cheese for awhile.

Tried Zilla at the Haute Wheels Houston food truck festival. I wanted to give them a try because I had heard a lot of really good things about them from co-workers and friends. However, perhaps it was because the event was absolutely packed with people but I just didn’t enjoy the food. Got the chicken and waffles as well as the dirty fries which was basically fries topped with macaroni and cheese and a sprinkling of cheetos bits. The total was about $ 8 which seemed a little pricey for what it was. The chicken and waffles worked pretty well though the chicken could have been a little crispier. The dirty fries were pretty bland and didn’t blow my mind. I mean it’s french fries and macaroni and cheese! And cheetos! How could it not be good?! But sadly, it was just very ordinary. I might give this food truck another try on a normal working day when they’re not being swarmed by people but at this particular event, I just wasn’t very impressed.

I like the food here, they always have great options. Not to mention the truck is super easy to find! I have visited maybe a dozen times and only once did I have a problem. I am a big fan of the macaroni and cheese with Cheetos so I get it almost every time they have it. I was at the Farmers Market at City Hall on a Wednesday for lunch, and I went to order. The lady in the truck was really rude to me. She seemed annoyed I was there, which is the opposite of what I normally experience. When I got my mac and cheese I started eating it… the middle was cold, not luke warm, COLD. I was pretty upset and ended up throwing it away. Its one bad experience of many good experiences so I will continue to visit them, but with more and more food trucks out and about it Houston, if I have another experience like the mac and cheese incident I will probably take my business elsewhere.

Mmm… That pulled pork mac n cheese was spoonful of savory goodness. I didn’t care too much for the pork, surprisingly. Usually, I’m all about the meat. heh heh. However, I couldn’t get enough of that macaroni con queso. What threw me off was the additional cheetos thrown in there… still good though!

This is another of the new batch of food trucks in Houston who post their location via twitter. I was getting off work and looked to find that Zilla was at warehouse live from 7 – 10 pm. Perfect for a late dinner. When I arrived at the stand I bust out laughing. Why? I saw shit on a shingle! WTF is that? i didn’t care so I made sure to order one of those. Along with that I had an order of the mac and cheese, it’s topped with green onions and cheetos, the cheetos were not different but a good twist, I also had the chicken and waffles, imagine breakfast klub out of a food truck, I also had a chicken quesadilla it is filled with huge chunks of chicken breast, what makes this thing awesome is the dipping sauce. Dunno what’s in it, but it totally makes the quesadilla stand out. Finally I had the SOS. So what is SHIT on a shingle? Well it’s a bunch of junk on a shingle(piece of toast). The junk was cheetos, chili, green onions, and jalepenos. This thing was surprisingly my favorite. It was quick and decently priced. I will return.

What’s that, in the distance? Sweet sassy molassey, is that a fire breathing rooster? On a giant yellow food truck? WTF? Essentially, that was my first response to seeing the Zilla mobile at the Bayou City Farmers Market. It has to be the coolest looking food truck that I’ve ever seen. While the food is good, it didn’t live up to the awesomeness of the food truck. The first time I went, the food was tasty but a pain in the ass to eat. This is street food, I shouldn’t need a steak knife a fork and my lobster bib in order to eat it. My wife and I split a croissant egg sandwich with cheese and tomato. There may have been bacon in it too but I can’t remember. I do remember it being quite tasty but by no means street food. The croissant was way too big to try and eat it like a sandwich so you had to cut it in order to eat it. That is difficult when there isn’t anywhere to sit down and you don’t have metal utensils. The plastic knife I had was woefully insufficient. Finally, we managed to snag a plastic table and were able to tear apart chunks of the sandwich. Tasty, but annoying. Trip 2 to Zilla involved stopping by at the City Hall Farmers Market during my lunch break. I brought a little lunch from home and wanted to supplement it with something tasty. On the menu is a chicken burrito. Chicken burrito appears to be a misnomer, however. It was more like a chicken wrap. The burrito was ok. Easier to eat than the egg sandwich, but not quite as tasty. The chicken was a little bit underseasoned, and the juicyness of the chicken made the tortilla soggy. The tortilla, actually, was the loser of the dish. It became soggy, and was kind of stiff before it became soggy. The dish also came with an avocado spread that was simply mashed avocado(a little bland). I added some salt to the avocado and it helped the dish a lot(as the chicken was undersalted as well). All in all, the chicken wrap/burrito was ok, but not the best and certainly, again, not really street food. Luckily, I was able to take it back to my office to eat it, otherwise I’d have chicken juice all over myself. Summary: If you see Zilla, stop by and try something. Otherwise, there are other Houston street vendors that I would actually seek out(Mélange and Eatsie Boys to name two).

What can I say other than«The Dirty» I experienced this glorious burger tonight and nothing could have satisfied my hunger better than this wonder. Let me explain — great burger, ridiculous sesame seed bun and a patty topped with off the chain mac and cheese and crispy french fries. It did more than satisfy the drinking hunger let me tell you. My companion had the wangs that had the perfect tempura type fry. Top that with Thai chili sauce and you have another amazing item. Follow this food truck and I promise, you won’t be left wanting.

WARNING: Jason at Zilla will FEED you! I don’t mean swanky restaurant half stomach end of the night feed you while raping your wallet, I mean… Top button undone underwear peaking out feed you on a budget! All I have to say is that I will follow this truck anywhere(minus Washington Ave). Custom meal tonight — wangs and macncheese which the latter never disappoints. I have to give the biggest compliment I can give… Wings were as good if not better than the Breakfast Klub. I almost think it’s blasphemy to say it… But I cannot tell a lie. Jason. I love you. I’m fat and happy tonight. I’d reach out and give you a hug if you’re flipping counter wasn’t the same height as the entire length of my body.

The BBQ Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese is magic in my mouth. I think the BBQ Pork may have actually been unicorn meat and the cheese crafted from rainbows it was so wonderful. I also had the Mac & Cheese a second time sans BBQ Pulled Pork/Unicorn and it was still fantastic. The scallions and Cheetos added additional flavor and texture without taking away from the awesomeness of the Mac & Cheese. Writing this review is making me so hungry. Anyway, the Chicken & Waffles were also very good. The portion was HUGE so unless you’re under the influence, you may need an eating partner. You’ve been warned. One note — bring cash. Sometimes they take credit cards and other times it’s cash only.

Visited this awesome truck on Tuesday at Liberty Station. The one man show(not sure if always one man) got started around 7pm. There were lots of menu items here. I had the mac and cheese minus the bbq pork and it was quite tasty. It came with scallions and cheetos! Yes, cheetos! It added a nice crunch to the dish. I also had the fried nutter butters. They were divine. They were served with powdered sugar and maple syrup. My friends had other staples like the BBQ pork sandwich, two hot dogs one bun, chicken and waffles and all of them really enjoyed their dishes. This truck is definitely worth checking out. I’ll be baaaaack.

Follow ‘em on Facebook, Twitter, or their webpage(which has a feed from their Facebook page) to find out where they’ll be – most often outside of Liberty Station or Little Woodrows in Midtown. On Saturday mornings, they’ve joined the growing lineup at the Eastside Farmer’s Market(aka Bayou City market) – which means my Saturday morning breakfast decision is even more difficult! I’m not sure how much local ingredients they use for their regular menu, but on Saturday mornings their menu is definitely market-inspired. It all sounded delicious, from mushroom and feta omelets to pecan waffles. I opted for the«Harrison Hog Hash»: a bed of fries topped with fresh Harrison Hog Farm sausage, caramelized onions, two sunny-side up eggs, and some fresh jalapeño slices. I grabbed an open table and ate my breakfast – and had three people come up and say, «Excuse me, but where did you get that? It looks so good!»(Or some variation of that statement). For six bucks it was a good size portion, and I can’t say enough about the fresh and delicious taste. The sausage was out of this world good, the farm-fresh eggs perfectly cooked, and the crisp fries soaked up the runny yolk perfectly. I devoured it so quickly that it didn’t have time to get cold from the frigid(for Houston) air. Zilla Street Eats is definitely some good eats. Note: I think I saw someone say they take credit cards. They were cash only on Saturday morning, which may have been an anomaly, but if you don’t have the green you may want to double-check before ordering.

This is some sick sick eating. Have eaten several different dishes and every one was a heart stopper which requires beer to wash down the taste and start the digestion process. Prices may seem high but the portions are huge to justify them. Whatever you can do, get some of that mac&cheese which has gouda in it. Whether it’s the cheese in the the«dirty burger» or the base of the pulled pork, its richness complements the salty accompaniments. Some of the dishes are creative fusion dishes that the cook must have thought up when he was drunk. Like the Sriracha cheese steak. The thai garlic chili sauce just uhhh cuts through that cheese perfectly.

Definitely try the fried nutter butter for 3 pieces $ 2. Chicken and waffles sliders for $ 5 was good too. The waffles could be crispier but the chicken tenders were seasoned good. I usually don’t dip my chicken and waffles in syrup but it was tasty!
