Best pork floss bread ever!!! The bread lasts as long as week in room temperature! I always buy all of the pork floss bread when I do go there.

I went there today with my family trying to buy some bakery products. When we asked if there’s any special or deal going on, we were surprised with the response from the owner«NO! We don’t have this at all, if you are looking for special or deal then just go somewhere else.» The look of her and another worker made us think we were here begging for food. It’s not worth the time to shop at this unrespectful bakery.

I love the meat pastries here and the cheese bread. The cheese bread calls out to me even now. The thing that bothers me is that they tend to run out of stuff pretty quickly and are slow to replenish it. I was also not impressed with their cakes. I feel like they used to be better back when it was Jungle Café…

Cutest most delicious cakes ever! Everything from animé mice to manga pigs. So moist and delicious with its fruit fillings and toppings. Flavors vary from vanilla to chocolate to mocha to taro cakes. Great for any occasion! I’m speaking only for the cakes. Haven’t tried the macarons or other pastries.

The first time I came here, I bought coffee cake from a tray near the register. I should have inspected it before purchasing because the next morning I noticed well-developed mold on the bottom. I’m not talking small spots of white fuzz but large green fungal metropoleis. Undeterred like any inveterate patron of Asian bakeries I came here again and checked my breads for mold before checking out with the bored cashier. Surprisingly one of the breads lasted a good three days after in subprime storage(studio drawer, unpredictable temperature, dark and possibly damp, etc.), which leads me to question what kind of preservatives they might be using…

I write this as I sit in Bellaire’s horrible traffic from construction. This place really was not worth battling the traffic. I was super excited about Yannick Bakery, but alas it was a let down. It’s rainy today, perhaps they don’t expect customers? It seemed that way because there was a very bored looking employee sitting in the corner and the place was deserted of desserts! The wall to the right only has collectively maybe 20 pastries. Mostly everything was gone. The wall next to the door had a decent selection of cookies. I wasn’t in the mood for cookies, so I kept looking. The left wall had some full cakes and some angel food cake/sponge cake looking slices. The case by the registrar was completely empty. So from my slim pickings, I bought a pineapple tart and a bread infused with pineapple and cream(naming was not in English). Some of their pastries are in English, some not. I guess if it looks good, just get it, right? My loot was pretty average tasting, hence 3 stars. Nothing I would really go back for even if I’m in the area. Plenty of other bakeries on Bellaire that wow me for the same price. I’m not even discounting stars for their grotesquely small selection I encountered; perhaps I caught them at a bad time(it’s noon on Friday). However, I didn’t seem like anyone was in the kitchen. The place seemed just like the weather outside; dreary.

For the amount of money you pay, the portions are huge(I’m sensing this is a common Texas theme). Their honey sticks with bits of black sesames are my favorites. I stock up on them every time I go to Houston. Their butterfly cookies are only ok… actually in the end they taste like lard melting on your tongue. That’s great if you like that flavor. Anyway, other than that, all of their bread are fully, delicious, and flavorful but those honey stick like products are the best!

Our favorite specialty bakery in Chinatown! My finance loves their jumbo egg tarts and I like getting the honey sticks with black sesame on them. Their macaroons are also done very well(especially the mango and berry) even at $ 1.50. Only downside is they don’t make all the specialty items like macaroons or giant egg tarts everyday so there is a 75−25% ratio you may not get them. They also tend to run out of these items if you come late(around 8 pm). I don’t get Chinese bread here as it is much cheaper at Welcome and about the same taste. CASHONLY.

I ordered a Black Forest cake for my bday and I was so disappointed. This cake nearly ruined my bday. 1. Cake did not look like the picture, fruits were half the size as the picture and looked stingy. 2. Cherries inside the cake were super sour and fully soaked in bad rum. I couldn’t stand the combination of sourness and bitterness… almost seemed rotten… super nasty. 3. Lady said I get a layer of pudding. Hmmm did she forget to mention they chop up their pudding? The other bakeries you would get«real chunk» of pudding and here you get«minced» pudding. Can you imagine this texture of pudding in cake? 4. Black Forest is chocolate cake, this cake was tasteless. I gave them a chance knowing this could be a new owner. Should have stuck with what I liked from that other bakery down the street. Yuck, still have mouthful of sour taste of rotten fruit…

Just dropped by and had some of their macaroons. They are delish! The blue one is filled with actual blueberry filling, the pink one with real strawberry filling, you get the idea.

I used to go every week and pick up the sun cakes with honey. They are absolutely perfect with tea. The problem is that sometimes there are some with bad consistency and disentegrate into millions of tiny flakes in the bag before you get to even eat them.

SOGOOD. You got the front of the bakery filled with Taiwanese pastries and breads filled with cheese, bacon, and all kinds of other creams. Although they caught my attention, the desserts stole me away. They’re all so pretty and I could not choose between a regular tiramisu or a chocolate tiramisu. I ended up choosing the chocolate tiramisu and I do not regret it! It was so creamy, rich, almost like a mousse, but then you tasted that sweet rum. Oh so good, and the chocolate ganache on top was like heaven. I told my boyfriend to shut up for 5 minutes while I was cheating on him with this tiramisu. Stop reading this review and contemplating on whether or not to search for the place just GO.

One of the best tasting Chinese sponge cakes I’ve ever tried, both original yellow and the coffee flavored one! Once I finished mine, I regretted not getting more for our road trip. I can’t wait to go back down to Houston to get more! I wish so badly that Dallas had more little bakeries of this great quality!

Boy am I glad that Yannick opened up. I just had the mango mousse today and it was nostalgic for me. The taste and lightness of the mousse reminded me of a mango pudding I had when I was a little girl. Whenever something reminds me of my childhood, it’s really special in my heart. Just like the critic in the movie Ratatouille, the dish that won his heart was the ratatouille. The proportion in my opinion was great because they don’t skimp on the mousse. Mathematically, the ratio is approximately 1 to 3 in the miniature cake world. One being the sponge cake and 3 being the mousse. I’m so glad the texture was light for the mousse so it is decadent but not overly rich. Then, the cake was not too dry nor moist to complement the mousse. Taste wise, the sweetness and sourness was balanced because you can taste the fruitiness of the mango instead of milkiness from the dairy. Definitely give them a chance because they offer Chinese pastries, macarons, and some Taiwanese snacks. Not to mention, the owner is courteous and provides excellent customer service. The entire staff was patient and they gave my mom and I the time we needed to look around. I was incredibly surprised to experience this in Chinatown.

This is now my go to place for incredible desserts. They look delicious and taste even better. Do bring cash or a check — they don’t take credit cards. See my photo for the bf’s b-day cake — special order and not cheap but OMG worth it.

More economical cakes here when compared with Jungle. Jungle is a rip off and for that kind of services? I ll definitely come here. The old lady(the owner) is very sweet!

Try their egg tarts. It’s not a traditional crust and that’s what I like best. They don’t conform and they make their own splash. They have very pretty little cakes and desserts as well. I have got to go back there and try some! YUM! Make sure to bring cash! No credit cards!

I didn’t even know this place existed until I was brought here by the GF’s(now fiancé!) aunt in search of traditional Taiwanese celebration cakes. Yannick Café is located where the old Jungle Café used to be, before Jungle decided to go über-trendy in its new Dun Huang Plaza locale. The founder of Yannick used to work at Olympic Bakery, now defunct, one of the original bakeries in the Chinatown strip. They pick up elements of the Jungle small fancy cakes. They’re not nearly as crisply designed, but they do carry a slightly lower price point, and if you’re picking up these small bites for a party, your guests will be as equally impressed. They also make normal sized cakes; check out the impeccably designed Tiramisu Cake in the photos for a sample of their artistry. In addition to the«new,» the real winner here is the heavy Taiwanese influence. Yannick also carries the standard Chinese bakeries, but also stocks Taiwanese-based specialties like curry puffs and sun cakes that don’t show up at Six Ping or the other more Chinese-based bakeries. The founder, who often works the counter, is incredibly friendly. She’s limited on the English, but can help you with whatever it is you’re looking to find. Be forewarned, the place is cash only, so stock up on the the Jacksons and Hamiltons before you enter.

This is my go to spot when i have a sweet tooth. Same lady behind the counter every time I visit. Always pointing out whats fresh and new. Seems like they put out fresh items all through the day. Plus they seem to genuinely want your business. unlike a few places in the same shopping center. Can’t say I have ever had anything bad. Usually go with some basic pastry or roll and walk out satisfied. Presentation of the items are works of art. I visited during the Chinese New Year celebration. Pastries and cakes were decked out. Bring cash. Credit cards not accepted. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars. Wifi would also be nice.

Great for a quick snack, picking up pastries for home or a beautiful special occasion cake. Traditional Asian pastries alongside contemporary offerings. Raspberry mousse was especially nice, with none of that artificial powder taste.
