Their cupcakes are simply amazing. The smores, brownie and Oreo ones are my favorite(huge chocolate fan here obviously). Really hope they find a new location because this place is great!

The triple brownie cupcake is the bomb! While it’s really more brownie than cupcake… I love it.

The cupcakes were amazing and the people were so nice! It’s located in a little house so the atmosphere was perfect! The cupcakes are big enough to share! I will be going back next time I am in town!

Wonderful customer service. So very thankful and impressed. I needed to pick up cupcakes as a thank you on a Monday evening to bring on a Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, they are closed on Monday but Laurel offered to deliver them on Tuesday for me. She went above and beyond for me, I am very appreciative.

I’m on a mission to find the best cupcake in Houston. I arrived 30 minutes prior to closing and everything was sold out except for wedding cake and carrot cake. Either this company is that good or they underestimated the amount of cakes to bake. Cakes are decorated beautifully. The cake was not moist, but it was not super dry either. The icing on the wedding cake taste old. I’m not sure if the icing was suppose to be buttercream or what, but it did not taste good at all. I threw the entire icing dollop in the trash. Cake was serve slightly cool, so it was stored in a cooler of some sort which explains the taste of refrigerator smell. The wedding cake flavor reminds me Targets vanilla flavor cupcakes. The cupcakes are probably the best priced in Houston I found this far. Overall, I would return, but definitely try another flavor(preferably vanilla bean).

The cupcakes from What’s Up Cupcake are insanely delicious!!! The Banana Pudding Cupcake was very good! I got the Red Velvet and Carrot Cake Cupcakes too but, I haven’t eaten those yet. I’m sure they’ll be just as good as the Banana Pudding cupcake! Two thumbs up for this bakery!

Meh. The cupcakes are small, and a little on the dry side. They taste similar to boxed cake mix… Nothing spectacular.

When I’m in the heights area this place is always on my mind. My favorite cupcake they have is the sweet and salty. I love their variety of flavors. The frosting has a great flavor and it’s not overly sweet or thick. It’s a nice balance of flavor and texture. Every time I have gone into the shop they are always very nice and helpful to remind me which flavors are which.

Maybe I went on a bad day or something but the cupcakes were just awful. I ordered the Maple Bacon and the Wedding Cake. Both of the cupcakes were really dry. I had to park a block down because the delivery truck blocked the entrance. They were nice and explained all the flavors to me but the cupcakes weren’t good at all. Maybe I’ll try again another day.

We used What’s Up Cupcake for our August 2nd wedding in New Braunfels, and they were amazing! I absolutely love cupcakes and have tried almost all of the«big-name» bakeries around Houston(Crave, Sprinkles, Ooo-la-la). What’s Up Cupcake is hands-down my favorite with moist cupcakes, fluffy frosting, and so many different flavors. They also have the BEST gluten free cupcakes. My mom has celiac disease, so she has tried her fair share of gluten free cupcakes. My husband actually picked their gluten free coconut cream cupcake for«his» cupcake at the wedding, and he doesn’t even have a gluten allergy, they are that good! Laurel was incredibly helpful and easy to work with when planning for the event. She let us come in for a cupcake tasting, and included a special gluten free tasting for my mom. Once we picked our favorites, she also let us try full-size cupcakes in different flavors whenever they had new flavors on their daily menu. Laurel also made us two large cupcakes for our«his» and«hers» cupcakes that we used for our cake-cutting pictures. Even though the venue was a 3-hour drive from Houston so we needed to pick-up the cupcakes at 8AM on the wedding day, Laurel insisted that the cupcakes would be freshly baked. She had a baker at the shop at 4AM to start baking and decorating the 350 mini cupcakes. This shows how committed they are to providing the best products! The cupcakes were ready on-time, were gorgeous and delicious. They were a huge hit at the wedding. Thanks so much Laurel and everyone at What’s Up Cupcake!

I bought the red velvet and wedding cake flavors. So far I have eaten the red velvet one and the cream cheese frosting is goooooood! The overall cupcake wasn’t too out of the norm for a cupcake. They are tasty but I wouldn’t go out of your way to buy one.

I went to their retail location because I could never make it when the trailer was out and about. I get a sweet tooth upon occasion and I was looking to have it satisfied. They have a large selection of cupcakes at any one time, and an even bigger selection that you can order if you are having a special event. My favorite was the double chocolate brownie cupcake. I may not have the name 100% correct, but you get the picture. The cake was moist, and the icing was creamy. The cupcakes will set you back $ 3. They are a little on the small side so just one may not do the trick. It’s a cute location, and the people are friendly. It is definitely worth checking out.

I grabbed a Nutella and Red Velvet cupcake impulsively on a Sunday night and was quite pleased. I highly recommend the Nutella!

I’ve had better, I’ve had worse. We went after 9 on a Saturday night and all cupcakes were $ 2, couldn’t beat that. I ordered the key lime and the buckeye(chocolate peanut butter). The cake itself was light and fluffy, good texture and moist. I specifically enjoyed the surprise key lime curd/pudding in the center of the cake. There was waaaay too much icing on the cupcakes although it was rich and delicious and creamy, the cake to icing ratio just wasn’t right.

I’m not sure I’d consider myself a cupcake connoisseur, but I’ve had my fair share. I’m not really a cake person, so cupcakes need to be moist and uniquely-flavored to get my attention. I was craving banana pudding. I saw that What’s Up, Cupcake? had a banana pudding cupcake and bought it. The icing had a great texture and flavor… not super soft, but still melt in your mouth. The cupcake had a hidden surprise of pudding in the center. It was, in a word, heavenly. To say I devoured it would be an understatement… I wanted to eat the cupcake wrapper to get every last crumb. I will be back to check out the rest of their menu, for sure.

Ehhh… I was not impressed. I love cupcakes and I try to try every cupcake Houston has to offer. We ordered 2 cupcakes: carrot and strawberry. Actually the carrot turned into an italian wedding cake. I think they gave us the wrong one by mistake. The generator outside the trailer is pretty loud, so he must have misheard us. My complaints about both cupcakes are about the same. The cake is on the dry side and crumbly. I wanted pieces of real strawberry in the strawberry cupcake. The frosting reminded me of grocery store frosting – overly sweet and heavy. Unfortunately, even at $ 3 ea, these cupcakes didn’t make me want to try it again.

I eat cupcakes for the butter cream frosting. Not often. Not because they’re trendy and faddy(fatty?). Not because it’s «just the right size for a mid-afternoon snack.» No. The cake? It could be cardboard* textured and flavored, for all I care. Just give me a recently refrigerated amount of butter cream, and I’m happy. If it were to come in a squeeze tube(like my mom used to store in the fridge after making a cake), I’d be as happy as a five year old girl sitting in front of an open refrigerator eating mouthfuls of butter cream frosting. See, admitting that wasn’t so tough. Oh wait. No, that never happened. What’s up, Cupcake? tops most of their cupcakes with butter cream. Theirs is good for a quick fix, but still isn’t as good as my mom’s. The frosting pedestals aren’t so bad. Slightly dry, but I think it just depends on how fresh they are. Most of them are stuffed with some sort of filling, so this helps with the moisture level of the cakes. For example, the nutella or ganache is in the center of the pedestal, so if you’re like me, you get a frosting course immediately followed by a gooey center course. I sometimes eat a bit of the cake, but not eating the entire thing makes me feel slightly more health-conscious. *The cupcake frosting pedestals don’t really taste or feel like cardboard, and aren’t that dry, they just aren’t my favorite part of a cupcake by a long shot. In fact, their hummingbird cupcake cake is quite good.

I agree with the others that the cupcakes are regular size compared to Crave and yet still the same price $ 3. Downer :( I had the nutella cupcake and the red velvet cupcake. I particulary liked the nutella topping and the cream cheese topping on the red velvet cupcake but as for the actual cupcake, it was a bit dry. I’m a big cupcake person so I was slightly disappointed. Since they are so close to me, I MAY give them another try…

Meh. Blah… I hated giving this cupcake place only 2 stars, but I thought about it this way: If I was at a party and these cupcakes were there, would I go grab one even if it was free? No, no I wouldn’t. I was unimpressed and thought the cupcakes were small, lacking in flavor, and generally not something I’d choose to eat, even if they were free. I saw the little silver trailer on the corner of 11th and Shepherd and had to stop! As David N noted: You don’t get to see the actual cupcakes before you order, which I don’t like. There is a menu board on the outside of the silver trailer, but that’s it. No photos, no display, no idea on size. We ordered 4 cupcakes(lemon, strawberry, brownie, and chocolate ganache) at $ 3 each. Each of the cupcakes were just lackluster. The best of the lot was probably the chocolate ganache; it had plain chocolate cake with ganache in the middle of the cupcake and a decent icing. Nothing special… the lemon and strawberry were boring. The brownie cupcake was literally a brownie in a cupcake container. I expected there to be some brownie in it, but there was no «cake» in the cupcake, it was just brownie. I love cupcakes and I love supporting the small businesses and food trucks, but I’ll skip this one from now on.
