Vishala is an Indian grocery store and vegetarian restaurant situated in highway 6 which was their first location. This is their second location which they have opened up to cater to the needs of Indian crowd in the energy corridor. It is located in a very accessible complex with ample parking around. The store in itself is quite bigger compared to their highway 6 one. The aisles are neatly demarcated and aligned. You will see the fragrant agarbattis and Pooja related stuff near the counter. The left most aisle as you enter features frozen dishes, breads, home prepared and branded Indian sweets. Since most of them are predominantly milk based they are refrigerated. I have taken the sweets to couple of house parties and got rave reviews. Try the mohanthal and pedas. The second aisle will have Indian fried snacks predominantly Gujarati and cookies or biscuits as we call them in royal Victorian British English. The third aisle has ample choices of tea which towers over coffee in India as a common beverage. I was particularly impressed by the rice varieties ranging from basmati to ponni to matta rice only used in Kerala cuisine. The ready to eat aisle has ample choices and the dal and bean aisle also has essential cooking oils and rice. It is the best Indian store I have come across in town as to the variety and holistic India offering. India is a diverse country with lot of communities using totally different ingredients in their cuisine. It is a commendable job by a store if they have managed to assimilate and display the fare doing justice to all. Getting into quick pros and cons Pros 1. Wholesome, can’t complain about the variety 2. Convenient location for all of energy corridor 3. Offering of some freshly home prepared Indian snacks .like samosa and dabeli 4. Some days they have a local merchant featuring a new product or freshly prepared food . 5. Loved the variety of rice Cons 1. Still predominantly North Indian cuisine offering. But I have seen far more Kerala based products than anywhere else. So that is a plus . 2. Closes at 830 . All in all far better than any options for Indian cuisine around.
