Vintage CrossFit

I miss my box :-(I recently moved away from Houston and have had such a hard time finding a new box that can even come close to this one. If you are looking for a box where the people that go are great and not crazy obsessed and the coaches really care about you succeeding but doing it in proper form this is the place to go! I truly enjoyed my time here and saw great progress in myself thanks to them. The coaches take the time to show you how to properly do the techniques but at the same time know when you are slacking and give you that extra push. If you have been wondering if crossfit is for you look no further and give this place a try… I know I am glad I did even if they have spoiled me because now any box I find has a high expectation that it needs to live up to :-)

I recently moved to Houston and was nervous about finding a new crossfit «box». As soon as I walked into Vintage I felt comfortable and ready to workout. Even though I have only been going here for about 2 months I feel stronger and like I am pushing myself harder than before. The workouts are intense but still fun and the coaches are great! I am so glad that I found somewhere I feel so comfortable and challenged all at the same time! I’m constantly plugging this place to people I meet in the area because I think it is so great!

I have only been going to Vintage for a couple weeks, and it’s also my first CrossFit experience. Before this, I’d been going to a gym that does hybrid bootcamp/​CrossFit/​TRX workouts. I was looking for something new because I needed more of a challenge, and I was tired of people staring at me like I was crazy when I didn’t take breaks with them during the middle of an AMRAP!
Also, a HUGE reason I chose Vintage was for the CrossFit Endurance workouts twice a week that focus on running form and becoming faster. This is what sold me on the gym, because I have always been intimidated by the weight lifting part of CrossFit. I lifted weights in high school and really hated it, so this part was not appealing to me at all. But despite that, I gave Vintage a try anyway and I’m glad I did.
Everyone here is really friendly and welcoming and they want you to feel comfortable. They are also very encouraging and want you to succeed. There is a mix of people there, from serious athletes training for marathons and IronMans to those just starting out. Everyone takes things seriously (but not too seriously)
And if you are hesitating to try it because of the price — when it comes to these types of group workouts you really get what you pay for. I have tried several less expensive places and Vintage (so far) tops all of them, hands down. The main difference (besides the very welcoming community) is that they have a solid warm up and focus on form so that you won’t get hurt during the workout. I highly recommend this gym.

I’ve been a member since ⁰⁴⁄₂₀₁₃ and have enjoyed every workout. I started by only going twice a week and have now increased to unlimited since I love it so much. The instructors are very encouraging and are concerned with correct form. They have made me drop weight to protect myself from injury. They also push me to go faster when they know I can. The best thing about this gym is the members. Everyone cheers each other on and are very supportive. The members push me to be the best I can be. I will be a member here for a long time.

Some of the first friends I made when I moved to Houston were through CrossFit. More than a year later, I am still working out with these friends at Vintage! The coaches (and people) at Vintage CrossFit are the reason I renewed my membership: they are all excellent motivators who have helped this otherwise lazy occasional runner gain more strength and confidence than I have ever felt before. The community of athletes at this box are outgoing, welcoming, friendly and at all different levels of fitness, so the intimidation factor I have felt in the past at other gyms is non-​existent. I feel comfortable (and not judged) when I need to scale a workout to better suit my ability level, but am also always encouraged to try heavier weight as my strength and form improve. Best of all, I feel like I can truly be myself when I’m sweating, swearing, joking and WODing with my CrossFit friends at Vintage.

I knew about all of the Crossfit stereotypes, but was still determined that I wanted something more challenging than dodging dogs and strollers at Memorial Park. So, I picked a «box» (a/​k/​a a steamy, empty warehouse) that wasn’t too close to my house since I didn’t really want to embarrass myself in front of my neighbors. I figured that the Saturday intro class would be a high pressure sales pitch to get me to spend 10x what I could pay for LA Fitness. I geared up, ready to make up a hundred excuses to escape after the Intro Class without committing to another fitness gimmick. I was so wrong. Yes, some of the Crossfit stereotypes are true. There are definitely a few intense athletes who do Crossfit, which could have been intimidating… but at Vintage, even the strongest of athletes has always been pleasant and encouraging, even as they lapped the new girl puffing up and down Center St. with kettlebells. The coaches have been patient (teaching an overanalyzing attorney how to do Olympic lifting!), encouraging, firm and challenging. All of which I need to succeed, but the most important part for me is that it is fun and varies daily. (Dennis comes up with some very creative workouts.) Yes, the first month was difficult. But the biggest hurdle was convincing myself that I COULD do a handstand push-​up or double-​under jump roping, I had just never been taught how to; nor brave enough to try. Vintage Crossfit has provided me with a safe, supportive environment that has allowed me to succeed in reaching new personal milestones through «good ‘ol fashioned hard work.»

I’ve been doing CrossFit for a few years and recently switched to Vintage after discovering it was only a block away from apt. Initially, I was unsure of my decision to switch «boxes» since my boyfriend was staying and my social circle revolved around my classmates. I can now say that I have been a member for about 6 months and couldn’t be happier about my decision. It’s a great community and the coaches are very encouraging and helpful in explaining movements. The workouts are challenging and push me to lift heavier and train harder.

I’ve been doing CrossFit for over a year now, and have recently moved over to Vintage within the past few months and I ENTHUSIASTICALLY recommend them.
I used to be a VERY active person. I ran miles, did weights, went on adventures, felt EXTREMELY comfortable in a revealing bikini… all until September 2010 when I was in a very bad car accident. The accident ruptured a disk in my back and bulged multiple disks in my back and neck that resulted in chronic sciatic pain and a limp. I became sedentary due to my pain and limp, and subsequently gained weight while losing virtually all of my strength. When I was approached by a friend about doing CrossFit, I was reasonably skeptical about the benefits of doing a high intensity with my injury. I choose Vintage because the coaches are very attentive to my needs, and openly suggest modifications to my workout whenever I’m having trouble or I’m experiencing discomfort. They push me to challenge myself and my body at every workout, more importantly, they remind me to recognize the improvements I have made even on days when I feel like I’ve failed miserably. Vintage isn’t just a place to work out or «GET RIPPED» (though they do that as well), but a community of people who push you to better yourself. I do not walk with a limp anymore, I experience less pain, and have built enough strength to recently compete in my first CrossFit competition. I couldn’t have done it without Vintage! Started crossfit new about a month ago when this new gym opened right next to my house. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the coaches are so awesome and made me feel comfortable right away. Melissa is one of the coaches, and she’s wonderful. I can’t do all of the workouts yet, but she explains how to do them in other ways that are helpful and building up to eventually be able to do the full WOD. Super glad I signed up for crossfit at this gym.

I got involved with Crossfit about a year and a half ago and absolutely love it. The owners and coaches of Vintage have been with me through my entire Crossfit journey. They really care and take the time to share their expertise. Each coach is an athlete and has something different and special to bring to the table. So whether you’re training for an Iron Man, running a marathon or just looking to get generally fit one of them will relate and help you reach your goals. If you want to learn great technique, perfect your skill and have an enjoyable workout with AWESOME people Vintage is the place to be! You’ll be slamming heavy weights and flying above pull up bars before you know it! I feel stronger and more confident with each week that passes.

If you are looking for a place to call your CrossFit home along the Washington Corridor or inner loop stop because Vintage is the place for you! I joined CrossFit almost 10 months ago and couldn’t be happier with my results and awesome friends I’ve made along the way.
As an endurance athlete I needed something to help maintain my strength and sanity during the long intense training sessions. When I stumbled upon these guys 10 months ago I knew they were the coaches for me to help me achieve my goals. Dennis well lets just say he puts a whole new meaning to the term endurance athlete. He is a beast and competes in races such as the Death Race for fun! All the coaches focus on technique and form, which is hard to come by at most boxes, so we don’t injure ourselves. Oh and the motivation from the members is insane. You are always pushing yourself and being pushed to the next level.
Rather you walk in completely out of shape or a seasoned athlete I promise you Vintage will make you the best athlete you can be! Stop by to get your workout on and make some new friends. Vintage is bringing CrossFit back to its roots and dedicated to community… we love Happy hours and get togethers outside the box!
