Great service and great sushi! We come here often and consider it one of the best options in the area for sushi. Sometimes it take a little wait for your good but all in all I’m pretty satisfied every time I go.

Very tasty shaggy dog roll. Thanks for introducing me to this roll. It is so yummy. I wish I had more time to try out more dishes.

I have no idea how this place has earned a 4-star rating. It makes me doubt Houston Unilocalers. The service is bad, the food is sub-par and the atmosphere is average at best. Traveler’s looking to grab some sushi during I-10 rush hour should probably skip this exit.

I’ve always passed by and wanted to see what this place had to offer because it was near my house. It was lunchtime and I thought it was going to be busy, but it wasn’t. It was pretty empty when we walked in. The plus to that was we didn’t wait long. Our server took care of us carefully and the food didn’t take to long to come out. GYOZA– japanese pot stickers These were your typical gyozas in that they were simple, but the difference with these were they weren’t very flavorful and were rather bland. The filling was nothing special. CARPACCIOTUNA– clacked black pepper, garlic on tuna and sealed This dish was fishy and I didn’t like it too much. The ponzu was very strong and the tuna wasn’t fresh. SPICYSALMONHANDROLL The salmon was buttery and it tasted fresh. I liked the fresh greens. This was my favorite order here. U-DON– thick japanese rice noodle soup with tempura topping, served with salad The broth was bland and the tempura didn’t add much salt to it either. It was like eating a watered down soup. The flavors weren’t there and it could’ve used more seasoning and I’m not talking about the spices they give you on the side. I’ve had instant udon that tasted better. HIBACHISTEAKBENTO– tempura, steamed rice, salad, and miso soup. Bentos are easy and quick. You have your protein, your carbs, and your greens. Everything on one plate! It makes it easy. The steak was tender and lightly seasoned. The tempura wasn’t crunchy enough, but edible. The miso soup was bland and didn’t have any seaweed or tofu in it, which was very disappointing. I wouldn’t come here again even though it is close to my house. This place didn’t satisfy my sushi/japanese craving it just made me hungrier.

This is going to be our new go to for Sushi happy hour. The salmon sushi was by far the best thing we ordered — generous portions and very tasty. Also had edamame, gyoza, seaweed salad, tuna sushi, shaggy dog and crab tempura roll. All were quite good as well, just the salmon was the best. Service was kind, attentive and fast! Definitely will be back!

This place has an extensive menu. I came in at 4pm on Easter Sunday. I was the only person here for a little while. I saw a Shirley temple on the menu and had to have one. It tasted so nostalgic(I ate the cherry immediately). I ordered the CT roll. The roll was described as crab tempura, cream cheese, jalapeños, and avocado with tempura chips and Masago. I was pleasantly surprised by the addition of spicy mayo to this dish. The jalapeño was noticeable enough to feel the crunch. luckily it was very mild. I would recommend asking to remove it if you don’t absolutely love spicy as jalapeño can vary so much. I had not had Masago before and I can’t say it added anything discernible to the dish. Overall, I liked the roll and it was satisfying. Not the best I’ve ever had. The tempura chips could have been crunchier as well. I also ordered vegetable fried rice(pea and carrot) which was a little overpriced at 5.99 but had a nice flavor. They also gave me my drink and some hibatchi sauce in a to go package. Overall, I was really happy with my service here.

This place is a triple threat with great food, great service and a great atmosphere! My boyfriend and I go here every weekend, and we know before we go everything will be amazing! I recommend you go here for the best sushi and best service! :-) You won’t regret it! Don’t believe me? Look at the boat meal we got last week, amazing! :-)

Walking in, I was promptly greeted by a friendly server. The space is comfortable and casual with Asian accents(minus the peach scented candle on the table which I thought was very strange). They have a happy hour menu with cheap beers and sake, hand rolls, sushi by the piece and a few specialty rolls from $ 3.50 — $ 4. It’s a decent deal, but you basically get half size portions, so you can try out a few. I had the spicy girl(tuna, green pepper, imitation crab) and shaggy dog(shrimp tempura and imitation crab), which were nicely presented, but lacking in quality. I never thought I’d say this, but they actually had too little rice. One of the rolls also was shortchanged on the tuna, so it really feels like they cut corners. It seems like imitation crab is all over the menu, so that is pretty telling of the quality. For the price, you can’t expect too much, especially with the lack of sushi options in the area.

I’ve ordered from here several times. Not sure why I haven’t reviewed before, but here goes… The restaurant is in a little strip that has about every cuisine imaginable in it. From Phở to Pizza, if you can’t find it here, no one has invented it yet. We ordered for work from this place for a lunch and learn session and we all really enjoyed everything. I’ve also ordered from here for home, and again another time for work for dinner for the whole team. I have not yet however actually eaten inside the place, though it looks clean and reasonably well maintained. We have ordered several of the sushi rolls, Shaggy dog, Spicy girl, Tropical, Sashimi, Fried rice(they made it spicy for us), Rainbow roll, and even Habachi… all excellent and the sushi was very fresh. It’s not the best sushi I’ve ever had, but I think it is reasonably priced and it is very close to where I live and work.

Fair Warning, this is a Sushi only review(with a bit of happy hour mixed in). When I moved into the area, the first thing I looked for is a solid sushi restaurant, and by some miracle I stumbled upon Umami and their fantastic sushi menu, and I have been a regular ever since. Full disclosure: I don’t really like the regular menu stuff(ramens, rice bowls, chickens, etc.), I come here strictly for the sushi because honestly it’s so darn awesome. Happy Hour: — INSANELYCHEAP. I’m talking under $ 3 for any Japanese beer, $ 2 Sake, $ 3.50 Tuna rolls, $ 5 Shaggy Rolls, among other things. The absolutely crazy part is that the quality doesn’t waver. If your goal is to simply get hammered and have some pretty decent sushi to boot, you’ve finally found the spot. Sushi: — I’ve ordered just about everything on the menu and I really have no complaints(except for a vegetarian roll I tried, and honestly unless you are a vegetarian you won’t order this roll in the first place). However, the TRUEEXPERIENCE came when I started ordering off menu and asked the sushi master, Lee, to make me a special roll based on what I liked. Literally a EDM party in your frikkin mouth. I personally like spicy rolls with shrimp and no cream cheese. He’s made me about 5 different combinations with all of them being very good(the best one with chili oil, siracha, and sesame oil mixed into crab on top). My friend typically does the same with his preferences and generally too satisfied to speak afterwards. If you’ve never been here, just go to the sushi bar, ask for the sushi king, tell him what you like, and enjoy. Don’t even worry about the menu, you won’t need it(unless you’re looking at their alcohol selection). It’s just a great way to try something different and delicious, and I will be a regular for many years to come.

This place is great! But for some reason the day we came for lunch there was only ONE waitress for all the(7) tables who were there eating at the same time, so she was running around and we still waited a long time to eat. Despite the wait, the food was great! We had everything from teriyaki shrimp and beef bento boxes to sushi rolls to sashimi. Other than their miso soup that tasted like it was mixed out of an instant miso bag, the other dishes were all prepared to our satisfaction.

Sushi was so good! Hospitality exceptionally well. Not busy which was nice. We ordered the spicy Californian roll, tiger eye, and a shaggy dog. It all turned out really flavorful. Next time we’ll have to try the dessert menu. Everything looked so good. The prices weren’t outrageously high, it was affordable and reasonably priced. The inside interior is nice. Nothing to fancy just very causal, with tall booths. Wifi is free just ask for the login. Music wasn’t obnoxious. They gave us a punch card. So on your 8th visit you get a free $ 10 limit off your purchase, but your sushi roll has to be $ 10 or over. Overall, I would DEFINITELY come back. Everything was good and enjoyed it.

Houston has tons of good food. This place is good but not exceptional. The lunch portions were quite big and the price point pretty low. I wasn’t disappointed. I tried the chicken teriyaki and hibachi both were good if I lived in town I would definitely go back to try the sushi.

I appreciated the quick service and the quality of the sushi. It should be noted that I’m not cool or trendy enough to eat real sushi– I like the fake kind of the cream cheese variety. Umami definitely satiated that desire. I was surprised to see how not busy it was, but hey– in Houston, you have an ish ton of options.

You get what you pay for. Came here for happy hour and the 5 piece rolls were $ 3. Not bad for the price. Food was decent. Spicy Tuna roll wasn’t as fresh as I expected and it wasn’t spicy. Spicy Crab Tempura Roll was good, as far as fried food goes. Fried oysters weren’t fresh and the quality was lacking. Service is a little slow and communication between them isn’t that great. Overall experience was okay. Would only go back if I was in the area. Update — I got a very bad stomachache as well as my mom. Had to go to the restroom a few times after I got home… don’t think I will be coming back.
