This was my first time eating here. It was a cute whole in the wall type of spot. The food was pricy in my opinion but still delicious. I got the Friday special which was rice and a fried catfish fillet with shrimp étouffée over it, this was $ 19. It was delicious definitely worth it. I would return at an earlier time when it’s more lively. We were the only ppl there and they were in the process of closing. I would have like to have heard some music playing to complete the ambiance.

Ordered thru UberEats. Got a 100% downgraded version of what was advertised. $ 10 for two scoops of soggy rice is not acceptable.

I’m being generous with 2 stars given that I spent a good 30 minutes cleaning up crawfish seasoning yesterday. I picked up 2 lbs of crawfish and some gumbo yesterday. When I got home there was a pool of crawfish seasoning sitting on the car seat where they had punched through the clear plastic bag and sack they were packaged in. I quickly brought it inside, leaving a trail of seasoning from the car to the sink. This wasn’t just a hole or two — it was several big holes. This was my first time getting crawfish to go but I assume they would use tins or styrofoam containers. Before even sitting down to eat I decided to call and question why they weren’t packaged better. First call — I got hung up on. Second call — I asked to speak to a manager who explained to me they don’t use tins for any orders under 5 lbs. So if you are thinking about getting crawfish here — take that into account before ruining your car.

The crawfish are sooo wonderful. By sure to ask about adding the artichoke to your boil. Those daquiris are soo wonderful. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance is nothing fancy so you can just relax and enjoy. OR take your daquiri to go. Happy hour prices on the drinks too.

I came here on a Friday with my friends — the location is in a pretty obscure place, next to the highway. Side note: there’s no air conditioning! Me and my ordered 3 lb. of crawfish, $ 7.25/lb., and comes with a free potato and corn. My other friends ordered a Poor Man’s Po Boy and Fried Butterfly Shrimp with fries. There was only one waiter, but he welcomed us politely and took our order promptly. On to the food! The crawfish was pretty small, contrary to what the lady said. However, the seasoning was perfect! My friend really enjoyed her Po Boy, which looked really good. I ate one of my friend’s butterfly shrimps and a couple fries. It was good, but nothing spectacular. This was my first time here and the food was decent, but it’s definitely not a place I would visit regularly.

I want to dedicate my 500th review to a very special business — The Cajun Stop. I first heard of this Cajun restaurant was from a Unilocal event at Yellow Rose. Ever since I tried the étouffée and king cake, I felt in love with them. I have been searching for that perfection and just didn’t want my desire to run dry. Which brought me to their restaurant. The parking lot was not what I expected, but that’s fine. This is east of downtown Houston, near the major thoroughfares. I happen to know my way around. I was there on a Saturday afternoon, I didn’t have issue with commuters competing with me. My first impression was — «oh wow». It gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling like home cooking in the kitchen. The staff was down-to-earth pleasant. I was thirsty after long stroll at the park, so I ordered a soda called Big Shot. Mmm… That was a very smooth soda. Later I found out from the owner Lisa, as these sodas were trucked in with fresh crawfish directly from New Orleans. Don’t tempt me, I may go there to find more delicious soda. My second time there was for a real dinner. It was a week before Mardi Gras. The restaurant was decorated. My king cake was so uniquely textured with incredible flavors. I’m mouthwatering as I write this review. I ordered crawfish étouffée and their signature fries with mysterious sauce as part of check in offer. I often try to cook what I like from a restaurant. But I can’t duplicate what I ate. That means I’m coming back for more étouffée soon. Pssst… This might be their 360th review. Woohoo.

I was very disappointed the last time I ate here. They didn’t have what I wanted first of all so I had to order something else. My bread tasted stale and it just wasn’t very good, not to mention the prices are getting ridiculous. If I’m going to pay $ 17 for a small sandwich and onion rings it had better taste like heaven.

The best crawfish I’ve ever had in my life anywhere and I was raised in Louisiana! The fried platter was also excellent. I didn’t care for the boudin balls they had a herb taste that wasn’t for me but they were well executed. The locale is the only thing hurting this place but get here before everyone else discovers it!

I visited this place for the first time on Friday. I actually got food to go, I had a super craving for gumbo & the reviews seemed pretty legit. So I ordered a bowl of the chicken & sausage gumbo. When I say there was not 1 piece of chicken in this gumbo and about 8 pieces of sausage .not 1! The roux was watery and greasy, & lacked that true gumbo taste. Can’t even lie it was pretty much a disgrace to Louisiana fare. This is the type of food I grew up on so maybe I’m a little bias, but there’s no getting around a chicken and sausage gumbo with no chicken. The BB’s chain has a more legit gumbo than these guys. My grandmothers would be pissed to say the least. This may just be a place that’s good for crawfish, but how can you mess that up. Even with the hole in the wall atmosphere, If you’re looking for authenticity you won’t be finding it here.

My friends and I just wanted some GOOD crawfish for a decent price, so I googled«best crawfish in Houston». It was among the 15 places that Houstonia magazine recommended, so we decided to give it a try. The strip that it’s located in looks run down and abandoned, but don’t let it fool you. We went inside and were greeted and seated right away. My friend and I ordered and split a Krazie Bucket and it was AMAZING. The large bucket was filled with crawfish, sausage, corn, potatoes, and snow crab. Everything was seasoned to perfection and had the right amount of garlic and spice. We definitely weren’t expecting everything to taste as good as it did. I WILL be going back soon for more. In my opinion, this is Houston’s best kept secret.

Want to say that this used to be my favorite hole in the wall po-boy stop. I looked forward to the food and Lisa’s always pleasant greeting and hospitality. But, the food is slipping and I gave it two tries separated by long break period(we all have our bad days). But, tea was noticeably weak(yellowish tan but still served), Gumbo is below the standard the CS set so many times(burnt coffee taste – happened twice). Lastly, the roast beef po-boy that I used to crave seems rushed and of a lower quality. I’m not one to write reviews but I’m hoping that Lisa gets back to great and doesn’t lose another customer.

Our group of four went to the Cajun Stop Saturday night(2÷6÷16) totally forgetting it was the weekend before Fat Tuesday. So, we were treated to an unanticipated Mardi Gras treat… beads to wear, New Orleans music, and great food. I had the fried shrimp platter — yummy!

I wanted to like it here. God I wanted to like it so bad. With the exterior I thought it’d be legit. It’s in a strip center on the eastside next to a bail bonds service. A man was welding a trailer in the parking lot which was littered with empty plastic liquor bottles. I KNEW I’d like it. I was so so so wrong. Watered down iced tea. Seafood gumbo 1 star. Thin, flavorless other than roux and cayenne but somehow gummy texture. Oyster poboy was alright but had way too much mayonnaise. Gets 2 stars because it isn’t bb’s.

This place is in a run-down strip that makes you want to think twice about going in, but don’t let it fool you! We went during lunch time and it was packed of people. Before you even open the door, you can smell the Cajun aroma of spices, which made me excitedddd. I ordered the Friday special which was the fried catfish with crawfish étouffée. Be forewarned that it does take a while for the food to come out(they even have a sign on top to be patient as food is made when ordered). There were Louisiana decorations all around the walls of the restaurant and I especially enjoyed the music that made you feel as if you really were in Louisiana. One of my coworkers ordered the fried pickles and it was fresh hot and yummy. The batter was good and the pickle seemed to be a spicy pickle. My order of the Friday special was so delicious. Fried catfish was fresh, hot and crispy(not to mention it was a big piece). What really stood out was the crawfish étouffée sauce that topped the fish. It was creamy good and they didn’t scrimp on the crawfish. The only drawback that most commented about was the price was a bit higher than other places(my dish was about $ 15), but I totally would still recommend it! The service was also top-notch. I appreciate that they came by multiple times to check on us, kept cleaning the table and refilling drinks without asking. The service is just as important as the food, and they nailed both. I’ll definitely be back to try all the other options especially the po-boys and crawfish as they all looked really good!

Ate lunch here on Friday, Jan. 15th. My oyster po-boy was outstanding/5 stars — every thing you’ve heard about the french bread is true. Also ordered seafood gumbo — waitress said they were cooking more rice(what — out of rice?!) I was OK with waiting for my gumbo until the rice was ready, but it never came. I reminded her when she brought the bill and had her fix it «to go». We like the casual feel here, but, as reflected in other recent reviews, the service is lacking. On our part, all was forgiven and we’ll be back — the po-boy was really that good!

I drove 45 minutes to dine here because I was told they had the biggest and tastiest crawfish in town. Instead, it was a huge disappointment. Right of the bat they were out of several things. No daiquiris, no alligator, and no limes for beer. I went ahead an ordered 3 pounds of crawfish. My crawfish at $ 8.50 a pound were tasty but not huge. There were a few good sized crawfish, but the rest were small, mushy, and overcooked. I requested Cajun seasoning and butter to go along with the crawfish. Was brought a container of straight ground cayenne pepper and no butter. The rest of the meal was meh, except for the shrimp poboy which was on point. The fish plate was huge, but lacked seasoning. All the fried items had a weird after taste like they were fried in old oil. I prefer a cornmeal crust on my fried seafood so I was not really a fan of the batter used. The plate came with salad and fries. I requested ranch, but they were out of ranch and I was not offered a substitute salad dressing. The worst part of the experience was service. The restaurant was clearly understaffed and the wait time for food was longer than expected. There were no apologies or explanations given for the extra long wait time or the several other mishaps that occurred throughout the meal. I watched as other patrons in the restaurant also sat in frustration waiting for orders to be taken, drinks to be served, and food to arrive. There was not an owner or manager present, but one helpful server did offer us a 15% discount for the inconvenience. I had previewed the menu prior to my arrival and was hoping to find a hidden gem to dine at when in the EaDo area. Sadly that was not the case.

The restaurant had a southern hospitality feel as if you were in New Orleans. The service was great and the staffs were friendly. We ordered the LC’s red beans and rice, Dylan’s surf and turf, a seafood platter with fried catfish and crawfish étouffée. The red beans and rice were very rich and flavorful with the gravy. The surf and turf po boy had fried shrimp and roast beef that were very tender. In addition to the gravy on the roast beef, there was also a lot of mayonnaise and butter that blended all of the different seasonings together. Due to the sandwich being drenched in mayonnaise, it was hard to distinguish the different flavors it was supposed to have. The fried catfish and crawfish étouffée platter was my favorite dish because the crawfish étouffée and the creamy sauce were the best part of it. The fried catfish was okay. Overall, it was a bit pricey for what we ordered.

The food here is awesome; however, this is the second or third time I’ve gone to the restaurant(this time it was at 7:50pm on a Thursday evening –December 10, 2015) and been told by an employee(I’ll describe him for you if you would like) they were closed despite Unilocal indicating they are open until 10. The times this has occurred, it is always the same employee that says the restaurant is closed(and it has always been around 8pm when we have been told the place is closed) and the woman I believe is the owner/manager has not been there either time this has happened. So I’d rate a 5 for the food, but a 1 for not keeping the listed hours. My husband and I are regulars here. We typically eat here 2 times per month and refer friends here. We are beginning to try other local Cajun restaurants because the hours are so unreliable. I’ve worked in the service industry in the past and, although it stinks for employees, good service means allowing people to come in, be seated, and order food until the listed closing time. Closing 2 hours and 10 minutes before closing is extremely poor customer service. Although the food is good, better customer service is needed to make this restaurant keep regulars coming. Management needs to address this issue.

I’ve eaten here twice now, once dine-in and once by delivery through a service. It’s certainly a challenge to master all aspects of a cuisine, and Cajun food is no exception to this rule. It would be a treat to find a place with both amazing gumbo and excellent poboys, but this place doesn’t meet the mark. The gumbo here is lousy, but the poboys are delicious… I guess I can live with that. Pros: Boudin balls, flavorful fried catfish with a nicely balanced batter, yummy surf and turf poboys. Cons: Bad gumbo, smelly and dingy dining room, a little pricey, tartar sauce/remoulade sauce is made with pickle juice instead of relish. :(

Convenient location to my house, great prices for great food! I especially enjoy the crawfish étouffée and the krayzie bucket(crawfish, sausage, shrimp, crab legs with corn and potatoes all boiled in their«krayzie» spicy sauce). All of the items are great, and the corn(which i save for last) having sat in the sauce the whole time, tastes amazing! The shrimp is a bit tough(possibly overbooked?) but i didn’t order the bucket for the shrimp anyways. Great service with a small, authentically Louisianan business feel will keep me coming back.

I love the food, but there is a bit of a wait for our food. If you’re a lover of cajun food I’d say come, just be prepared for a wait. The Po-Boys are mammoth, so bring your appetite. I’m a big eater so I get the big joint, but they come in sizes

Believe it or not started our night at Quattro and sometimes you’re just not into that. When our food came I realized that sometimes you want and need something more flavorful and savory. So I jumped onto Unilocal and here I am. Ordered the 2 lbs of crawfish and told ‘em to bring me something good. We shall see what they bring. 2 lbs of crawfish and I could have ate more. I was hungry so I ordered the catfish with crawfish étouffée. Fantastic birthday dinner can’t wait to go back get some red beans and rice and a Po Boy sandwich. Lol or 2

This was just ok. I have way better Cajun food but it was quick and close to UH. Located in EaDo in a dead shopping center, I am not sure how it survives. Maybe it’s depends on what you get. I ordered the soft shell crab and that was a miss, the fries were good but the salad was a waste of bowl. My dad got the fried fish and he said it was just mediocre. They do have daiquiris to go. Maybe I will go back for those. maybe not.

I would give five stars but my experience with the service is crap three out of the five times in a two month span I’ve eaten here. The food is amazing though. Maybe it is just bad timing with me and the staff. The mayo and cocktail sauce seem to be made in house and both are really good. The catfish basket is a lot of food

When we arrived at our destination, we were starving so I went on Unilocal and discovered this place. I wanted to see what everyone was raving about this place. This place is located in downtown Houston and they’re on GrubHub. When we got there, this place was empty and it was only 10. To find out that there was a rodeo cook off($ 15 for admission from 11 – 6) and people were too drunk to be out. Since, there were no customers they decided to close early, of course, before our arrival. We didn’t want to dine in because that would mean that staff would need to stay. So we ordered a bunch of food to go. We ordered: –fried shrimp platter $ 13.95: side salad, fried shrimp and french fries. This dish was just ok. Fries were not good, bland and soggy. –spicy fried pickles: pretty good –3 lbs of lemon pepper crawfish: 1 whole corn cut in half, potatoes and crawfish. I even verified and made sure with staff that this dish was mild and not spicy. However, when we tasted it at home, it was super spicy and salty and I didn’t taste no lemon pepper anywhere. It was more like salt and chili. –fried catfish: super dry and salty –seafood gumbo: there were sausages but seafood were no where to be found. It also tasted burnt. –regular roast beef with gravy: was ok Overall, I was disappointed with the food.

This place was good but different. Ordered a cup of the red beans and rice, a bowl of the seafood gumbo, and 2 pounds of lemon pepper crawfish. Red beans and rice were delicious, not too salty, perfect texture of beans(nice and soft). Onto the bowl of gumbo… damn this bowl was huge! I recommend getting the cup size as the bowl of gumbo comes in a bowl the size of a large bowl of phở. I have mixed feelings about the gumbo. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m accustomed to «Texas Gulf-Coast» style gumbo(Cajun Stop prides themselves on being the taste of Louisiana), or if I just wasn’t expecting this texture and flavor(it wasn’t a bad flavor it was just different). The gumbo was really thin and soupy, it was almost like the consistency of a soup thickened with cornstarch. I prefer a much thicker roux/consistency where it’s not as watery. The flavor was also different. Usually gumbo has a little reddish hue to it, but this gumbo was flat out brown(nothing wrong with that, just different). The flavor was definitely nice and spicy with a lot less cajun flavor than I would have expected. Nice big chunks of oysters and some succulent baby shrimp, veggies, and sausage were what made this bowl so savory. My bf ordered 2 pounds of crawfish and these bad boys were pretty good. The lemon pepper flavor is super spicy and full of flavor. Lots and lots of garlic! The only downside is the prices were a little steep for crawfish… I think when we came it was about $ 8.99/lb. I guess people are willing to pay anything for crawfish nowadays… I wish I could jump on the bandwagon of amazing 5-star reviews, but for me… the ambiance was kind of sad/grungy and the service was pretty slow(e.g., water glasses empty for a duration of the meal). Don’t get me wrong though, the food was good, but I wouldn’t say it was anything phenomenal. If I was in the area again and had a cajun craving, I would stop by, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for this place.
