When I pulled into this small unassuming strip mall that’s placed ninety degrees to the service road off I-10 making it very easy to miss unless you’re familiar with the area it was my intention to spend some time walking around Carter’s Country. I was a little surprised to find that store closed at 7:30PM on a week night but it did afford me the opportunity to discover TNO which I guess could be considered a western wear and boot store. We were greeted by both members of the staff working this night and they invited us in to look around and offered up help if we had any questions. I’m not really a boots and spur type but this store offers much more than that, it’s filled with some very unique Texas themed merchandise as well as a lot of items you just don’t see in very many places. So if your looking for something out of the ordinary or custom made I’d say you should stop in here. They have a great selection of heirloom quality miniature whiskey barrels and glass boots containers that can be used to display and preserve your favorite whiskey or fermented grain mash. Lots of ornate custom silver buckles, belt tips, spurs and other silversmith creations I’m not that familiar with. If you’re into custom made boots, belts, wallets and other leather goods you can find all of that and more. I’m glad I decided to stop in its definitely a different experience and very enjoyable.

I discovered this place a few months back when I was at Carter’s Country doing some shopping. After finishing at CC, we noticed Texas National Outfitters and stepped in to take a look. They have some of the finest western wear around and they usually have live singers in the store. Nice touch. We actually went back just to see some of the live entertainment. Anyway, if you are looking for high quality wester wear, check this place out.

As a tourist, I enjoyed TNO. We happened across it by accident after getting BBQ next door, and they had a nice selection of Texan stuff. The gentleman up front was very friendly and helpful without being overbearing. I’m not qualified to rate their main business, cowboy boots, unfortunately. At a glance, the operation looked serious. The selection isn’t as expansive as Allens Boots on South Congress in Austin, but it was good. They do custom boots, but they are serious investments since they start north of $ 1,200. They definitely look cool, but I’ll stick to my $ 300 Allen Edmonds boots until my wallet is thicker. Worth a visit if you are nearby. If you need a souvenir, definitely come here over some awful airport gift shop.
