Great chips and salsa and affordable options on Mexican and Salvadoran food. The pupusa’s(like a stuffed thick tortilla) and the pastel(fried empanada sort of thing) were both new to me but delicious. The tamale was also good. Definitely a good place to go if you are looking for cheap authentic food in the area.

If you’re looking some authentic El Salvadorian food with good service and decent ambiance, this is your place. Consistent refills of the chips/salsa and, not surpisingly, large cup sizes. It serves a mix of Mexican and Salvadorian food but definitely go with the Salvadorian. The pupusas are delicious(especially the chicharrón). The sweet tamale is bomb. The beans are the best I’ve had in many a year. A great hole-in-the-wall find, especially if you’re willing to speak a bit of Spanish.

Tried this on the suggestion of my friend, Liz. I luv hole-in-the-wall type places, because the product that comes out of them is usually magnificent. This place tried its hardest to live up to my expectations and I believe I failed them, because I hadn’t tasted anything like it before. The chips and salsa were forgettable. The chips were so greasy tasting that I couldn’t tell I was drinking Dr. Pepper. I ordered Salvadorian Papusas and they weren’t anywhere close to what I was used to. They seemed more like gorditas than papusas. I’m so used to typical hot, red(rojo) salsa and it wasn’t. The green(verde) salsa was the hottest and they both had a taste that I was unfamiliar with. Needless to say, I didn’t gain any weight during this lunch outing. Service and the people were nice, though.

The pupusas are to die for! I do sales for a living and when I’m even remotely in the area I stop in even if it’s not meal time. Bean and cheese are my favorite but don’t try to eat while driving — a bit messy.

A pupusa is a traditional Salvadoran favorite which consists of a thick tortilla lined on the inside with cheese and usually chicken or pork pounded almost into a paste. There are a number of pupuserias around town, and even though La Fogata is called a taqueria, it serves typical dishes from both Mexico and El Salvador. My first time in the clean and brightly painted restaurant, I wanted a good sampling, so I went with one of their combos, which included a pupusa, a tamal, and a pastel. The pupusa was a savory blend of cheese and chicken, and the pastel — not cake, before you ask — was a deep-fried half-moon stuffed with seasoned ground beef and vegetables, like an empanada at other places. The tamal, though large, I found to be rather heavy on the masa, without much in the way of chicken, so I gave it a miss my next time in. I got another combo with the delicious pupusa and pastel, but went for a more traditional Salvadoran dish of yuca mixta. The yuca is a boiled or fried cassava root, which essentially has the consistency of a potato, and your choice of fried anchovies or chicharrones. The yuca can be a bit bland, and the fried pork was rather dry, but it was all brightened up with a bottle of in-house Salvadoran salsa brought to the table with the meal. This salsa, like the one served with chips as you sit down, is a watery tomato-based salsa which falls on the cool and refreshing side when compared to its thicker, spicier Mexican counterparts. It all made for a hearty meal that kept me going the rest of the day. There are plenty of other dishes to try on the La Fogata menu, including breakfast, and with daily happy hours and El Salvador Pilsener in the fridge, it’d make a great before or after work spot, in addition to lunch.

Great Pupusas and juices. The prices are great and the food is always hot and fresh. I must say though that at times it takes a while for the food to arrive.

Love the pupusas here. But recently i’ve been going and all the waiters DONOT know how to speak english. And since my spanish is not so great I had a lot of trouble ordering. Not going here as much as I had in the past
