My family and I moved into one of the townhomes within Tanglebrook Apartments based on a friend’s recommendation who had lived there previously. 1. Rude Neighbor My family and I, after one week there, started having problems with a neighbor and her dog(we don’t have any problems with dogs, just this particular dog and owner). Throughout the year; the dog ran uncontrolled constantly without a leash(keeping in mind that other dogs within the property were sometimes seen without leashes, but nonetheless controlled by their owners), jumped into my car and left muddy prints on my child’s seat(the owner never apologized for), jumped on my child on one occasion(who was supervised by my wife who could not control the dog), and jumped inside our patio(the gate was closed) and defecated it(the owner never cleaned or apologized for). The owner was approached but became irate very fast, insisting that we were«dog haters» and that if we didn’t like dogs we should just«move out». Eventually, we found it difficult to deal with this neighbor, so we presented our issues to the manager. With time we noticed that nothing was done and we constantly brought our issues to the manager. The only thing we could really do to prevent this from happening was to never walk around the property, or at least my wife and kid without my supervision. Six months passed and we eventually found from the new receptionist that the manager and the neighbor are good friends(this is a speculation, of course). No wonder nothing was ever done. 2. Leaky Ceilings On more than one occasion the ceiling in our master bedroom leaked and one more than one occasion somebody came out to repair the damage. By «repair», I only say they painted the ceiling. 3. Faulty Wiring Due to the constant leaks, our apartment developed an electrical problem. With the rain, two of our electric plugs would spark. The front office was notified and a repairman inspected the problem. Nothing was ever done for the rest of the months we were there. 4. Flood and Carpet Towards the end of our lease(after we decided not to renew our lease), there was a repair by maintenance issue in the downstairs restroom of our newly moved-in next-door neighbors. I don’t know the details, but the only thing that I do know is that it flooded the apartment and two other neighboring apartments, including ours. Their damage was extensive where everything they had downstairs(still in boxes) was damaged(this review is not about their apartment, which itself is a horror story which I hope is made into a review on this site someday). In our apartment, we had an inch of water downstairs. The management was quick to have maintenance vacuum the water out of our apartment but the carpet and padding below were left behind. A day or two later the carpet was lifted, the padding was removed, and residual water was once again vacuumed by maintenance. Unfortunately, they also left the carpet in our apartment without letting us know of their intentions. Days passed(where my family and I were«living» upstairs) and the smell of mildew started to be noticed. REPEATEDLY we asked the management to remove the carpet from our apartment but nothing was ever done. I then contacted the property owners, Allience Residential Management and nothing was done. It was then that I decided to take it upon myself to roll the WHOLE downstairs carpet and toss it outside our front door. The next day we were notified by management that their intentions was to salvage the carpet(which, after speaking to several carpet installation experts needed to be done hours after the flood, not days later). I repeatedly had to insist that the old carpet was unacceptable and demanded a new carpet. After that was approved, they quickly wanted to install the carpet in which again I had to repeatedly insist they wait for the concrete subfloor to completely dry(to prevent the growth of mold). In the end, the carpet was replaced for a new one. 5. Mold Due to the flood mentioned above, a lingering scent of mildew was constant. We found out later that the sheet rock and insulation was wet up to three feet from the ground. We also found that the presence of mold was detected on three separate occasions. Due to the reluctance to repair or replace this, our next-door neighbors moved out(after a month or two of living there). We did not renew our contract and moved out. No repair was done ever done to my knowledge. I drove by a couple of times afterwards, to see if any repairs were done. The flooded apartment was painted and new people moved in, unaware that anything had happened. I have lived in various apartments in numerous cities throughout my life. This, by far, is the worst place I have ever lived.
