Suwa African Hair Braiding and Weaving

Suwa is a very nice lady who truly wants to make her customers happy. However, her braiders did my hair too tight! I’m not tender headed at all, but when I left, I cried a little because I was in so much pain. Before they started, I asked them if they braided tight and one of them said «it depends.» Smh! I had to take them out in the front to make sure my edges wouldn’t come out. They did a grear job and finished my box braids in four hours, but I am in too much pain to even think about returning.

STAY AWAY!!! I upload a picture of a blister I found this morning on my hairline, coupled with a multitude of small pus filled blisters along both of my sides. No reason to go into a full complaint, if you value the integrity of your hairline find another salon!

Went to SUWA for cornrows and I must say my hair looks marvelous, If you are seeking a glamorous salon with great customer service, you may want to pass this place up. But if you want your braids tight and stylish at a fair price, this is the place. I had my hair cornrowed in a bun and I was out in about 3 hours. So why 3 stars you are thinking, if I loved my hair so much? I have not had my hair braided in a llllloooonnng time but after reading reviews and calling around I settled on SUWA. 1. I am a stickler for timeliness. If I take the time to schedule an appointment I like to be seen on time. Ok so my stylist was not on time, she was only 45 minutes late. I was greeted by an employee who asked what I would be doing and after seeing the photo gave me the price of my service. 2. Proper styling area — well let’s just say that they pulled up a few chairs. They do have a few «stations» but most are makeshift. Your stylist will come in and find a space pull a chair from the back and go to work. 3. Cleanliness or lack there of — well let’s just say I wouldn’t use the restroom there. As the ladies braid, hair is just discarded on the floor and every so often someone will slide their foot across the floor and gather the hair and throw it away. 4. Communication — most of the ladies have a thick accent so you have to listen well. After finishing with my braids my stylist took in a back room and sat me in a chair facing the exit door. She then plugged in a coffee pot of some sort and asked me to lean back as she proceeded to dip the hair into the hot water. All I know is that I felt HHOOOTTT steam on my neck and I jumped and asked what are you doing? This is when she explained about dipping the braids in hot water. Then it was time to settle my bill, as I said in the beginning a employee came by and gave me the price of the style, what I did not know was that the hair was additional. So I was now given the full total with the hair included — another $ 12 no problem. Time to pay, so I pull out my credit card as I stand in front of the credit card machine — only to be told it doesn’t work so I had to walk to CVS and use the ATM — another $ 3. So ladies or gents make sure you have cash for the service, don’t expect to receive a bottle of water and make sure you use the bathroom before leaving home. The great thing is that you will have some banging braids for weeks to come. Peace Out!

I made an appt for Monday at 2:30pm I got there 2 – 3 minutes before my scheduled time. I also called this morning to confirm my appointment and no one said anything about a delay or asked if I could come later. When I arrived, I was greeted and asked if I had a picture. I didn’t so I viewed the pictures on an iPad to see if I saw one I liked. I wanted to know what was the 180 size and I was persuaded to don$ 200. I decided to go with the $ 200 size. It’s 2:45pm and right now no one has seen me yet. I notified her that I was here this weekend and called to make an appointment because I saw that they were busy on Saturday. She said they are short braiders and she’s sorry about that. I also let her know if they did not have availability they should not have scheduled an appointment with me. There are 12 workers in here at the moment braiding hair as well. A few have wrapped up with their customers head
2:56pm I’m in the chair
3:00pm the person who is supposed to be working on my hair is moving around and talking with everyone as if I am not sitting in this chair waiting to get my hair done. Totally unprofessional. I don’t have time to be sitting here waiting while she converses. Hope that the rest of my experience is better than what it had been this far
3:15 and I am still patiently awaiting in this chair. I came all the way from Humble and I made an appointment before hand. Unfortunately even with an appointment I had to wait about an hour before I actually got started on.
Initially I asked for my hair to be braided in the $ 200 cost size. While in sitting here I see a girl getting her hair braided the way I want mine so I asked how much is that size. So in French she asked the girl how much and she replied $ 200 not aware that I speak French as well. However she turns to me and says $ 220. That’s when I politely state just because I look like I don’t speak French doesn’t mean I don’t I know my numbers and basic French. $ 200 is $ 200. Then someone else had to come clarify that it should be $ 220 not $ 200 as stated in their personal conversation.
Once that gets clarified she does 3 braids and they goes for a break.
At one point 3 people were working in my hair it took 4 hours to complete. Once I got settled the ladies were nice. I was only thrown off by the a above conversation per proving.
Restroom– soap was watered down, didn’t have any paper towels and wasn’t very clean

Ok so I’m almost two months late writing this review. I came to this place strictly off the reviews. And I have to say that I absolutely loved my experience here. I’m tender headed and my braids weren’t tight at all. I will definitely be coming here when I need my hair braided or twisted.

Got my crochet braids about 2 – 3 weeks ago and I love them. The woman who did my hair, Queen, was very friendly and approachable. The one thing I would recommend is to stop by before your appointment to make sure you have the correct hair. I made the mistake of calling instead and had to go and exchange my hair during my appointment time. After that all was well. Also while I was there the owner, Suwa, demonstrated such patience when dealing with a customer that wanted a style that they weren’t able to do at that time of day. The customer was angry and almost walked out but the owner stopped her to see how she could retify the matter. Many salons might have taken her money and given her a subpar hair style which she may or may not have liked. I appreciated the owner’s honesty. They were able to meet in the middle and the customer still got her hair done. I’m not sure how it came out because I left before they were finished but just the way it was handled would make me recommend this place.

I’ve been coming here for about a year now and have gotten Senegalese twists and Crochet braids. I’m extremely tender headed and typically can’t tolerate braids so I was very nervous the first time. I’ve had a different braider each time and they never braid me too tight! I’ve also had no issues with loss of edges or hair like some are leery of with braided styles. Thanks Suwa and staff.

After locating her on Facebook I had to go see for myself!!! Suwa & her staff definitely have it together!!! All 14 braiders have the art down packed every client that walked out hair was on #Fleek as the youngsters put it! I’ll be back and sending folks their way!!!

I love my hair. Very professional service. Be ready to bring cash because it is the only method of payment.

When you first walk in they welcome you and ask how you want your hair braided. (length, style, etc) One of the ladies will quote your price and not even five minutes later seat you so they can start with your hair.
At first I had two ladies on my hair and then a third one close to the end. All in all I was in and out of the shop within 3 hours and 30 mins. By the way I had the medium box braids done and my hair turned out really good. I’ve been getting nothing but Great comments about my hair. I will be a returning customer!
