It’s nice to go and experience something different but prob will not go back. The food is bland and you can tell it is Hyatt food.

We went here for our wedding anniversary and we were delighted by the staff, the view, and our food! We had wonderful, thoughtful service from every staff member we encountered. As mentioned by so many, I must say the visit is worth it for the view alone. We split the seafood mac and cheese as an appetizer. The dish was very generously laden with perfectly prepared shrimp and crawfish, well seasoned and very good, indeed! My husband had the seafood corn chowder and the surf and turf. He loved his soup, and thought his filet was the best he’s ever eaten. The only misstep of the evening was an overly dry crab cake covered with a citrus sauce that we both found to be not to our liking. I had the Spindletop salad and the rack of lamb. I was delighted with both the presentation and execution of both of my dishes. Although we declined dessert after such a feast, we were brought a lovely, complimentary dessert plate to celebrate our anniversary. Both the chef and the restaurant manager visited our table during the evening to make sure we were pleased. We were presented with a very nice Happy Anniversary card signed by the entire staff, and we were touched by that thoughtful gesture. Any restaurant staff that takes these extra measures most assuredly wishes to have their clients return. We most certainly will. It was a lovely experience.

My bf surprised me for my bday. The staff are really nice. The waiters are very attentive. The chef came over and told us how he would be preparing our food. We enjoyed wine and good conversations as the room spinned and enjoyed the view. very romantic

After three attempts of confirming an online reservation with three different credit cards the message is «We’re unable to make a reservation because the credit card information appears to be inaccurate.» I doubt that. And they want $ 75 for a reservation not cancelled within 24 hours. No thanks!

Went here for an early Mothers Day celebration and was impressed by the ambiance, food, and service. The basket bread came with four rolls and a delicious buttery mix. Definitely a good way to start the meal. My mom ordered the salmon and said it melted in her mouth. I got the steak and loved the combo of veggies, mashed potatoes and meat. For dessert, we got the crème brûlée, and were very happy we did. Overall, the food is pricey but the entire experience is worth every penny. At the end of the meal, the chef came out to personally thank us and make sure the food was good. An icing on top of the cake. Be sure to validate your parking!

We ended up at Spindletop while staying at the Hyatt in Houston. A pretty nice, modern and elegant rotating restaurant at the top of the hotel with spectacular views of downtown. Considering we hit this place as a walk in group of 25+ with no reservations, the staff handled this really well and got everyone accommodated. We ordered everything from cocktails, wine, appetizers, salads and entrees which were good but surprisingly falling a little short of what one would expect from a higher end, upscale restaurant. Martinis were made with too much vermouth and other cocktails seemed somewhat unbalanced. Appetizers such as the Southwest Jumbo Lump Crab cakes, although presented beautifully, included an odd sweet sauce and ran $ 16.00 for 2 teeny tiny pieces. The spinach salad was a little limp and the Beef Filet was done at a nice medium rare but came with bland vegetables. Spindletop has a pretty robust wine list and other delicious looking entrees on the menu so our next visit would definitely focus on other drink and entrée choices. But when considering an exceptional atmosphere and the making of a nice romantic evening with stellar views, Spindletop delivers nicely.

First time here we were, we stayed at the Hyatt and wanted to eat close by. Spindle top service is like no other. Everyone was so nice, the chef came out, the manager came to make sure we were taken care of, and they even had someone check to make sure the steak was cooked just like how we ordered. Food was incredible. And romantic at night. Simply great night!

My husband and I had a fantastic dinner! Our waitress Tracy was awesome! The manager was very friendly and helpful. We had the Seafood MacnCheese appetizer, it did not disappoint. The Sweet Corn Ravioli was delicious! The entire staff made our visit a great one. I enjoyed the view of Houston sky line at night.

Weeknight Downtown Elegance. I called half hour before to try to make a reservation. I expected it to be busy on a Thursday night. They easily accommodated a table for two. I arrived to the restaurant and was immediately greeted by a pair of young and well presented team of host. A young gentleman wearing a suit and tie escorted me to our beautiful table(all of them are) which was perfectly set up with gorgeous crystal and cutlery. The light and atmosphere is perfect to enjoy the dinner and the beautiful skyline of downtown. A friendly gentleman showed up to fill our glasses with water and welcome us to our dinner. Tracy showed up minutes after to introduce herself and get our drink order. She was well presented, clean uniform, and spoke loud and clear. The manager, Ricardo, showed up to our table twice and assured we were fully satisfied. Food was delicious and the cocktails were tasty. I like the limited selection of items. Makes the dining experience a lot better. I wish the appetizer was portioned better, but the presentation of that crab cake was superb. The entrees came a few minutes later and impressed both of us. A bed of raviolis swimming in a light cream sauce covered in a reef of seafood. Definitely will be going back with an empty stomach.

So I guess I created in my own mind this grandness idea of this place in my mind. I’ll start from the beginning: — Free Valet Parking(your ticket gets validated by your waiter) — Restaurant is on the 32nd floor so you will get a nice view riding up the elevator. — The restaurant actually does rotate while you’re eating, it will take about 45 mins to do a whole turn around the city. — All staff was friendly, cheerful, and available to serve you. — First they bring out some bread and some type of dip, I think it was bean purée, it was a little bland. –My friend ordered the special, which was steak, shrimp and something else, she said it was amazing and the best thing she’s had. –I on the other hand, had a different experience. I ordered Spindletop’s Signature Seafood Pot, I was kind of disappointed. It was served on this clay pot thing(not an issue), and it had seafood variety. The only thing was that it was extremely oily. It actually contained so much oil that I thought it was a soup. I ordered this BECAUSE it mentioned it had a lobster tail, but once I got my plate I was looking for it and later found it past all the shells of the muscles and clams. I finally found this small piece that I realized was the«lobster tail», it was probably the size of a large gumbo shrimp. Disappointed. It contained fish, and I must say that’s probably the tastiest thing in it along with the shrimp. Overall it was OK, I’m sure I will never order this again, I didn’t think this would be «Ancho Chilli soup». — Overall I WILL visit Spindletop again, I just would be more mindful what I’m ordering. Also, I will take the initiative and responsibility to ask the waiter specific questions about what I’m ordering so my expectations are not placed wrong and I wont be disappointed. –If anything the only thing this place has going for them is the excellent service and great city view.

The views are lovely. The food here is horrible. Expensive and horrible. My $ 45 salmon entrée was dry and overcooked and my sides, which sounded intriguing, were flavorless and also dry. No one liked their meal. I will never come here again. This is a tourist trap for sure.

We chose this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and it was a great choice! The avocado some was an excellent appetizer and since I had seen so many great reviews on the item plus the waitress, Lois who was awesome and embodied customer service, recommended it we had to give it a try! We were not disappointed and the addition of cilantro on top really set apart the flavor. The sun-dried tomato pesto served with our bread was an excellent spread and very flavorful. Lastly, for our main entrée we chose to do the seafood pot for two with a side of rice. Best choice ever! The food was so filling and came with more than enough food for two! Great atmosphere, wonderful view, and amazing food!

We can all agree that this place is more about the ambiance and novelty, but it wears off. Thankfully we ate here during HRW because I can’t imagine being pleased with eating what we did at any higher a price. Especially since I just ate at Oceanaire for $ 35 a person and it was phenomenal in comparison. Service was wonderful, so spot on in that regard. Cocktails were $ 15 ish a piece and a total waste, pure sugar, no alcohol. This is my biggest pet peeve, I’m not interested in paying for very expensive juice! Needless to say, our second round was wine. The first two courses(besides the Bisque) were more like Amuse Bouches. They all had great flavour though, so I’ll give them that. Our third course my husband and I split the Sweet Corn Polenta Ravioli and the Flat-Iron Steak. Way too much sauce on the Ravioli, I could barely find it in there! The Ravioli was sweet, the sauce was a little sweet and the seafood was sweet, it needed more balance. Sadly, the Steak was more rare than the medium-rare we ordered but it was also not that tender. The saddest part was the dessert, they probably shouldn’t have bothered because it was slightly embarrassing. The descriptions of both the Texas Peaches and Cream and the Nutella-Cream Cheese Brownie were awesome, they sound great, right? Well, there’s no way either of them were homemade or fresh. The brownie was like a cold, dry packaged brownie from an airplane meal(no hint of Nutella or Cream Cheese) with a scoop of ice cream on the side. And the Peaches and Cream was(what seemed like) a packaged waffle cone with a scoop of ice cream and topped with 4 pitiful slices of peach that may or may not have been fresh. Just a pathetic effort, I expect fresh ingredients from an upper scale restaurant as such. I’d say go for the ambiance but the cost of the meal doesn’t even justify the view.

Spindletop is a must-go restaurant for houston, but for the view ONLY. Maybe go here to get a drink or something. We came here for Restaurant Week on a date night. We got seated on the bottom section closest to the windows, which gave us a really nice view of the city as we rotated around. Our waitress was a bit odd — nice, lingered, kind of judgy at our lack of wine knowledge. We got a bottle of Pinot which ended up being Hyatt exclusive, pretty expensive, aaaaaand… a twist top bottle. We felt jipped — wine was okay. For food, there were 4 courses included — I got the stuffed crimini mushrooms, watermelon salad, flat iron steak, and the Nutella brownie. Honestly the only really good dish were the mushrooms. The steak was pretty rare inside, so the waitress did send it back for a few more minutes on the grill. The brownie was cold and tasted store bought. Like I said — come for the view, but nothing else really.

So let me set one thing straight… the two stars are not at all for the food but for the«view» which was basically a different perspective of the city. The food basically the downstairs hotel food put on a fancy platter in a semi nice setting. I ordered the paella and it was so soggy it wss basically like soup. Yuck!!! My gf ordered the soup and it was flavorless. Our waiter took forever and the service was pretty mediocre I guess cause we were a young couple and waiters usually expect young people not to tip… ANYWAY that not being the case we were very disappointed with this place. We can go to any other building in Houston then grab a good bite to eat in the many options our city has to offer. Skip this place or just go and order a drink and dessert :-)

Good romantic night out with hands down one of the best views of Houston. Spindletop is located at the top of the Hyatt hotel in Houston. And as such, that posed an annoying getting to restaurant itself. I had reached my destination and pulled up to the Hyatt hotel drop off area. I was met with a friendly face that told me if I wanted to access the restaurant valet, I would need to exit the area, go down the street after a few blocks and come back around to access the valet parking on the other side of the building. All this for access that was only about 100 feet away. I thought this was pretty ridiculous but it was the only thing I could do. Entering the hotel, you would need to go to the designated elevators leading up to the restaurant. Look out for the elevators with«Spindletop» mats. Once we were there, the view was breathtaking. After a few minutes of ooh’s and aah’s, we got the menu and decided to try the crab cake for appetizer and Spindletop’s Signature Paella for two. The crab cake was average at best with a much more to be desired. $ 15 dollars for one crab cake I can do without. The paella was decently sized with a large assortment of seafood. To my understanding, a paella should have rice in it. This did not. Overall the paella definitely had great flavor, great size and good well cooked seafood. Overall the service was great but the food was a little above average. Loved the view and décor but can deal without the headaches of its location in downtown Houston.

Ok, so my wife was lured with amazement of circling the city of downtown Houston while eating a Valentine’s Day dinner. It was her first time in such an environment, so she was super excited. The ST is definitely fancy. The host staff and maître d’ greeted us upon arrival and sat us at a festive valentine decorated table. The wait staff worked as well oiled machine and tended to water, bread, and plate needs. Excellent service. We shared in a 5 course meal that was a slight disappointment because my main bass entrée was lacking in the flavor department. There wasn’t enough black pepper in Texas to enhance the bland flavorless fish. My wife suggested I return it, but that’s my style. If I ordered I’ll stick with it and know better next time. Everything else from oyster/caviar bisque soup to the Godiva inspired chocolate soufflé hit the spot. Though the atmosphere and dining was better than average, the price was extremely high. I’m on a discovery to find out why the entire package was over $ 200. Nevertheless I was impressed, and though I may not return, I was impressed with the staff’s attentive attitudes and the presentation for our Valentine’s Day 2015.

I came here with my dad and mother for my mom’s birthday. Unfortunately, the view was obstructed by thick fog from an afternoon rain storm, which took away the most redeeming factor of this restaurant. We had an Open Table reservation and we were seated promptly before our reservation time by a window. On the Open Table request I stated it was birthday and that two people(my father and I) were gluten free. The waiter, Isaac, informed us of the menu options that were available to us. Then he started recommending his favorite items haphazardly on the menu. He mentioned all of the most expensive items in the menu. My mother asked Isaac what cut of the filet of meat was… filet mignon, porter house, NY strip. What’s this mystery meats origin? Isaac responds, «beef.» There was an awkward silence at be table followed by the pursing of lips, which means my mom is pissed. No duh it’s beef. Where is from? They provided gluten free bread, which is fairly remarkable. However, they had no gluten free desserts except vanilla ice cream. You win some, you lose some. We choose the avocado dome appetizer, which was an interesting concept, pretty execution, and a decent flavor. My mother felt that the appetizer should have come with a bruschetta option. I had the Texas orange chicken. The dish was well plated with some several types of vegetables on the side. I felt this was a weak attempt to make your local Chinese orange chicken an elevated dinning experience. For appearance and vegetables I think they succeeded; however, I felt the flavor wasn’t anything special than what comes in a white take outbox. Sadly, the chicken was so over cooked I spent the majority of my time chewing it like a cow chews cud. It’s disappointing that a 32 dollar chicken was so poorly executed. My mother enjoyed the Mahi Mahi. She felt it was well prepared, and the ravioli with horseradish sauce provided a nice little zip to the dish. My father was disappointed in his scallops. He felt that the scallops were too firm, suggesting maybe a low quality scallop. The entire family agreed that vegetable were all done very nicely. Except for the ends on the green been were left, which I feel is laziness in preparation. The drinks were delicious, sangria and the pineapple mojitos. I would dare to say they were probably the best thing about the whole night. Overall, the menu was limited. It lacks a pasta dish, and a pork dish. There online menu does not match the actual current restaurant menu. I suggest you don’t pick out your items ahead of time. I was disheartened that we noted it was a birthday on the Open Table reservation. There was no mention of the birthday made, and we were not offered a birthday dessert. Most restaurants offer some type of appreciation of the occasion.
