The Owner of this business, HP, is a great trainer and you can bet your going to get exceptional work. I had the chance to work with HP for 2 weeks straight and can say nothing but the best. If you want to get your dog trained the right way, call these guys!

I highly recommend this training program!!! I had seen the trainers around town with their perfectly behaved dogs many times. They were able to go to a public place and be in complete control of their pups. (Something I only dreamt of with my dogs.) I finally caved in and took my 3 pups to the free evaluation. Kritter was able to quickly asses the problems we were having, and after being amazed in just 3 minutes we decided to enter 1 of our 3 dogs into the program. We purchased the 6 month program with lifetime group classes. With that came a collar and a place mat.
I feel like the training is just as much for the owner as it is for the dog. From the training, I’ve learned how to train my dogs myself. Along with all of the great things we get trained on every week, any problem that comes up with our pups is easily resolved.
It has only been a few months now and the progress is incredible. Walking them is easy, and taking them in public is a breeze. The overall behavior has tremendously increased because now I have all of my dogs attention ALL THE TIME. They WANT to be told what to do, and they wait for me to give orders.
I like this training program because it’s all positive reinforcement. I’m not allowed to tell my dog «no» anymore (which is a hard habit to break). However, rather than telling them «no» when they do something wrong, I am forced to only congratulate them when they do something right. This is something I’ve always believed in but was never trained on how to properly execute.

Sit means sit changed our lives. I couldn’t take my dog anywhere without her misbehaving or attacking other dogs. Now I can take her anywhere, she’s got perfect manners no matter what. My family’s quality of life has improved greatly and I’m so proud of my dog. HP, Kritter, and ALL of the dog trainers there are top notch, fabulous dog trainers. Our dog Bernie has been training with the amazing dog trainer Kritter at Sit Means Sit for about 4 months now. Bernie was a stray and was extremely aggressive with other dogs and cats. Kritter has taught us how to transform Bernie into exactly the dog that we wanted– one who listens, follows commands, and does not react to other animals nearby. The amount of work that was accomplished in 4 months is incredible. Our friends, family, and even strangers at the park are so impressed with what Bernie can do. We all really enjoy our sessions there with Kritter and in the group classes, and I can’t wait to see how Bernie will continue to progress in the months to come.

Our decision to put our dog, Taylor, into Sit Means Sit ended up costing her her life and us the worst heartbreak.
Our fur baby is dead thanks to Sit Means Sit. Taylor went missing under the care of her trainer, HP. The story we are told was that Taylor was «let out» by a worker while she was boarding with HP at his home.
Taylor is a walking piece of our heart. She was a very sweet and timid rescue dog that we loved very much. Being a rescue, she’s always dealt with extreme anxiety which started off as fear of other dogs and people which gradually grew to aggression towards these things. She was never aggressive to us or our other rescue dog, in fact, she was extremely attached to us. However, we would refrain from taking her to the dog park and she no longer got to go with us to new places because of her new found dog and people aggression.
We decided to invest in Sit Means Sit to improve her and our quality of life. We were so excited about the idea of being able to take her to the park without worrying about her biting another dog or have guests over without her barking or trying to bite them. We met with Sit Means Sit and we opted for the weekly program instead of the immersion.
We met HP or Kritter for training once a week since May. During one of the times due to HP being late, he let gave us and another customer 2 days of boarding which was like a mini immersion program. My boyfriend and I were out of town in August and decided that after 3 months with Sit Means Sit, Taylor could work on her separation anxiety and training at the same time with a trainer that we trusted. Not in a million years would we ever imagine that the person we trusted the most with our dog would be the one who lost her for us for good.
My boyfriend dropped Taylor off Friday evening to her dismay. She cried to see him go. He thought it was tough love and she would be a stronger dog when he picked her up on Sunday. Turns out the person that couldn’t handle it was HP. Saturday morning, he called us to tell us that Taylor was let out by a worker. He promised to have her back in his care by Saturday afternoon, that it was a «closed» neighborhood and she couldn’t have gone far. If she wasn’t back by the afternoon, he will put up LOST posters. He claimed to have put 60 posters up.
Come Sunday evening when my boyfriend went to pick her up, she is still not back in his care. There was not 1 lost poster in sight… which HP claimed that the City of Houston took down. In the upcoming weeks, we printed, posted, handed out, hundreds of posters and yard signs. To this day 2 months later, whenever we go back to his neighborhood on a Taylor lead from our posters and signs, we still find them up, so it’s peculiar about the 60 he claims that the City of Houston took down in 1 day.
As consolation, HP did refund us our entire training fee, helped us put out posters and yard signs (though we suspect it was more of a PR play to save face since it was organized by the president of the Animal Justice League who lived in his neighborhood), hired a dog search and rescue (although promised to set dog traps in the area the rescue claimed she was in and never followed through), and would follow a Taylor lead if we aren’t available to drive to his area. We appreciate the effort because there is no legal obligation for him to do any of those things, however, nothing mends the broken heart we’ve endured from losing our dog.
We hope that our story can help avoid any future customers potential heartbreak and think twice before putting their fur baby into Sit Means Sit.
We really hoped that this story would’ve ended differently with an obedient Taylor who can play at the park and a glowing Unilocal review. From May to July, it was on track to being just that. The weeks we spent in training, we saw immense improvement with Taylor and we really like HP and Kritter.
However, that’s not how the story ended. After 2 months of searching endlessly for her, we found her dead, hit by a car, only a few blocks away from HP’s house. We’ve been dealing with immense heartbreak and trauma to find our baby that way.

This feedback is based on our experience with the two-​week «immersion» program where we handed over or dog (really, our child) to Sit Means Sit for what we hoped would be the best way to get serious about his training. Our dog, Benjy, is an incredibly anxious animal and has been through several training attempts over the years, though this was his first time to stay with the trainer for an extended period.
I am writing this review nearly two months after getting Benjy back. As far as Benjy’s training goes, we have retired the e-​collar. I’m sure the trainers, having years of experience working with it in a «positive» way, are quite comfortable with it. Unfortunately, my husband and I were highly uncomfortable using it with the very little expertise we have. I imagine when used properly it could be beneficial to most dogs, but I believe neither of us were equipped to make this a useful tool in the long term (and would likely do more harm than good, in our inexperienced hands) and so we have abandoned this training strategy.
Our feedback, therefore, is less about the training itself and more importantly about the condition of Benjy when he was returned to us following his time with HP. When I arrived to pick him up, beyond the terrified, stressed out animal I got, I immediately noticed countless bites and scabs all over his body as I hugged him. When I asked HP about this, he claimed he didn’t know they were there, and suggested that he got «caught in a scratchy bush» in his back yard. The bites were so bad that I ended up having to take him to the vet, where they prescribed 20 days of strong antibiotics.
This brings us to the issue of his weight. We are well aware that Benjy is a finicky eater; he always has been. Thus, his weight is something I pay very, very close attention to and have for years. I know beyond any doubt that when I dropped him off at SMS for the training, while lean, he was a healthy weight. In fact, I had taken him to the vet just a few weeks earlier, when he weighed in at 64 lbs and they were perfectly happy with his condition.
Benjy lost over 10 lbs… TEN POUNDS… while under the «care» of Sit Means Sit Houston (confirmed by his post-​SMS vet visit for the bites). Again, he did not have ten pounds to lose. I received one phone call during that entire two weeks — the day I dropped him off — to ask about his eating habits. Then upon pick-​up, when I felt each one of Benjy’s ribs and protruding hip bones, I asked HP about his weight… he actually had the audacity to insinuate that he was underweight when I dropped him off… As though it was somehow my fault.
I know there are many people who think Sit Means Sit is great. And maybe it is, in their situation. We, unfortunately, had a very bad experience and felt compelled to share it. I truly hope this helps someone else avoid having such a gut-​wrenching experience with your loved one. I would have rather Benjy not learned a single thing and been returned to us healthy, rather than what actually happened. And to think we paid them nearly three thousand dollars to do that… simply incomprehensible.
For the record, I did make a (futile) attempt to resolve my concerns with HP prior to posting this review, hoping he would take the opportunity to do so. He made no effort whatsoever.

Despite being featured so many places, I think the «attention based» training method was not what anyone would have expected if they’re interested in bringing their dog to be professionally trained. I understand it’s not a shock collar, but the collar used by Sit Means Sit is all they are selling. He showed me how easy it was to get my dog to heel properly (in less than 30 seconds) by using this collar to get her attention with an involuntary muscle twitch caused by electric stimulation. Some dogs might need assistance, but I doubt most do.
The extreme prices are not justified either, because my brother in law was able to get his dog immersion trained with the exact same collar for 21 days for only $ 800. Whereas Sit Means Sit begins at $ 2,500 for the same service for 11 days. My boyfriend and I explained how we are recent college graduates that just want to instill good habits in our dog while she’s adjusting to us before we could commit to this expensive of a program– the best offer we were given was $ 800 for three private classes (including the collar). There was also a 10% discount for having a shelter dog, but that did nothing to put it in the price range we were very open about while discussing.
Nothing else on their website was mentioned to us, even when we asked specifically if there were cheaper options. Private classes or immersion training. That was it.
On one final note, I know that this might be the sign of «well trained,» but our trainer’s dog looked overly submissive and didn’t ever seem excited a single time while we were there.

Ok, forget what their website says. how they’ve been featured on The Today Show, Animal Planet, how you should schedule a free evaluation (which you never get)… We recently adopted a 7 month old mini shar-​pei, and I wanted to get her into a good obedience training place (not at PetSmart). So I called up this place and made an appointment for the demonstration and evaluation (we received neither a demo or eval) on my Bella. The address I was given was on Upper Kirby, and the girl (receptionist I suppose) called me the day before to confirm. When we arrive to the address, I can’t even remember it now, the location did not even have their name on the door or building. no sign or anything. So I wait in the parking lot and I see a couple of guys going in and out of this building (they were carrying items into an ambulance converted into «Sit Means Sit Dog Training» vehicle). So my daughter and I get out of the car with Bella and head over to these men. I tell them I am here for an evaluation of my dog and to see what their training techniques are, etc. The guy, who is in one of the posted photos in the red shirt, greets me and begins to tell me that someone will be with me shortly. He then asks about Bella, and tells me how they are expanding and they are moving from this location to another building close by, but it is still under construction. He tells me they also operate in Katy and about to open a new location in The Woodlands. He informs me that the other guy with him (he did introduce me, but I don’t remember the name) is going to be the manager of that location. So I start to talk with «The Woodlands» guy and ask where that location is, and he says that a search is still underway. Hmm. ok. So finally, the trainer, Tom (I remember his name cuz he was a cutie), who I’m scheduled to meet with shows up. The other two guys take off. And there we are… standing in front of this building… in the parking lot… and Tom starts to ask me about Bella — how old? what kind of dog is she? I ask how long he’s been a dog trainer and how long with this company. Tom tells me that he was once a customer of Sit Means Sit, and they hired him — what??? lol He then tells me that they use a shock collar to train. I ask him — so, do you need to evaluate her or? Tom says, no, she seems good. WHAT!!! LOL Then he says he can meet me here at this location every Saturday for the next 4 weeks for private lessons, and then Bella can attend unlimited training classes for 6 months (keep in mind these classes are typically held in a public place — a park, a parking lot — this is what Tom tells me). I’m beginning to wonder — Does this place even have an office??? He says they train dogs outside so that a dog can learn to obey even when there are distractions and to keep the dog refreshed. He then shows me prices and says if I act within 48 hrs, there is a discounted price. So for these 4 weekly private sessions + unlimited training classes for 6 months, this place charges $ 1200. Right!!! And if you want your pet to be trained in the trainer’s home, their «immersion» program, you can expect to pay upwards of $ 4k. I tell Tom I need to speak with the hubby before I make a decision. We then leave. I don’t recommend this place at all. I’m skeptical of all the other 5 STAR reviews they received.

I don’t have enough good things to say about Sit Means Sit! I reluctantly got a dog when friends of ours found a stray that they were going to take to a shelter. I’ve never been a dog person in the past, and I knew that if I had a «bad» dog that I would never want another dog in the future. So I had to get serious about training and I couldn’t be happier that I went to Sit Means Sit.
A quick review:
–EXCELLENT staff. They genuinely care about dogs, and you know yours is in good hands.
–Training is based on real-​life scenarios. Not simply just sit, stay, etc. They stress training your dog to have focus on you instead of other stimuli like other dogs, cars in a busy street, food/​litter on the sidewalk.
–When appropriate (like group classes) they sometimes bring their own dogs, so you can see how they interact with their dogs, as well as see that they treat yours with the same care.
–They not only teach you commands, but they show you how to communicate with your dog, so teaching commands in the future become easier.
–They truly help you feel like you and your dog are speaking the same language.
–Availability of private lessons/​group class schedule make it easy to work training into your schedule.
Before Sit Means Sit, my dog would only sit only when she felt like it and she would pull on her leash so badly that walks were not enjoyable. By my third private lesson, not only did HP teach her to stop pulling within a matter of minutes (quite seriously, maybe 10 minutes, tops), but she has not pulled on walks ever since. In fact, she hasn’t tried to leave my side at all, while on walks. Sometimes I try to keep her on her game by stopping/​changing speed/​changing direction abruptly and she stays with me every time. EVERY. TIME. Now I feel confident walking with her off leash, and I am confident knowing that she will return when called.
Because of Sit Means Sit, I am comfortable taking my dog to as many places I can that allow dogs. And every time she is perfectly obedient, yet still a playful, lovable pup. I could not be happier, and I know that when we eventually get our dog a playmate, we will certainly take him/​her to Sit Means Sit.

Awful. Can only guess that they somehow generate their own reviews giving themselves a high rating because they are far from it. I wish I had paid attention to the negative review because it was dead-​on. The head trainer, HP danced around it when I asked him about it and he convinced me that the problem was the person making the complaint. Not true. HP is a great salesman… it ends there however. He was impossible to get a hold of and didn’t ever return any of my calls until I had texted him repeatedly saying how unprofessional it was. He never sent the progress pics or videos he had sold me on as promised. He also cancelled appointments right at the exact time he was supposed to be here on several occasions. He sent someone else over instead of coming himself and wanted me to bring my dog up there instead of the first home visit. I spent over $ 1500. for one week of intensive training which as it turns out is nothing but a shock collar. His idea of a (and I quote) «tap, tap, tap» to get their attention, is in fact, a «zap, zap, zap.» I seriously believe they spent little or no time with him as they were short trainers and apparently had too many dogs there. My dog was completely trained before I took him there (he even has his own Facebook page… Kim’s Krew, not my idea I assure you, but visit it anyway) but he is a pit bull rescue and aggressive towards other dogs and too strong for me to handle should he go for one, which he often did, especially when he was growled at. Interestingly, however, he had only been aggressive towards one dog, an un-​neutered Rottweiler before I took him to them and even had other dogs he played with. Afterwards, he was way more aggressive and attacked 2 more dogs, (one of the dogs was loose and it and another dog came running at him) and the other time was a Belgian Malinois rescue that wanted at him too. Coincidently, that’s the same kind of dogs that HP has, just saying. HP tried to convince me it was justified and the other dogs fault, that he was just defending himself. My dog was labeled as «too dangerous» by some people around here. I explained to HP that it was irrelevant who was at fault and that it could not happen again. He had initially told me he could help me find a new home for him (he was a rescue) in a heartbeat since he is such an incredible looking dog but talked me into letting them train him instead. As I said before, he was well trained except for the other dog aggression and although he was a rescue, had clearly been well taken care of just not neutered which I think is the reason he was lost. By the way, HP doesn’t believe neutering is necessary… which should have been a tip off as to his my big macho dog mentality. I found him to be unbelievably pompous, arrogant, and self-​righteous (no other trainer but him knows what they are talking about, etc.) which he actually said when I asked him about other things I had been taught before. I seriously would have fired him after 2 days but had already paid him in full up front, which was inadvertent… he had offered to let me pay him in 3 payments instead of the customary 2 because I work with a rescue group that had used him before and he knows we don’t have any money but I offhandedly said it wasn’t necessary because I wasn’t going to have any more money later than I have now, which he took as an I will pay you all in one payment instead of two. I didn’t realize it until later because I had given him a charge card and his machine wasn’t working properly so I didn’t get a receipt. I asked him about it later that day but he had misunderstood me apparently and had already sent the full amount in. Let me just say that the other trainers I met (Kritter, Darryl, and a few others) were excellent and I had even told them I would much rather they work with me and my dog than HP.
I realize this is extremely wordy but I had blown it all off (it’s been almost a year) as a lesson learned but I continue to see these glowing reviews and I just don’t buy it. In the end, they wanted me to pay for more training and never returned my calls after that. Needless to say, I don’t recommend them unless you think a shock collar is worth $ 1500. It is a nice collar but seriously???

When my wife and I got a new blue heeler puppy (Cooper), we decided that we were going to take him to basic training at PetSmart, but when he started really getting aggressive and acting up around the house, we realized that we needed some real training (No offense to PetSmart).
I was a bit skeptical at first regarding how confident they were at Sit Means Sit, but they really proved me wrong. Our trainer’s (nick)name was Kritter. He was incredibly relatable. He would first show us how to perform the training, but then he would also give us control and watch us while we trained Cooper to make sure we understood the process.
The cost of the training is a little bit pricy, but in this area, you really get what you pay for. The cost includes the collar, and additional supplies that will be used throughout the training. Throughout our sessions, each time we were able to see our dog’s skills advance. Each session is just as much of a training for us as it was for Cooper. After the sessions, Kritter gave us some homework on what to work on before the next session.
In the end, we are absolutely satisfied with what we paid for. My wife used to be upset that she thought we were going to have to take our dog back to the shelter because of his aggression towards our other dog, but now we think it is ridiculous that we ever had that thought. We are now able to take what we learned from our training and use it to teach our dog many new things. Also, we are able to take him to the group classes and show our trainer his improvement, while also getting additional tips.

Great customer service and great methods to train your puppy or dog! My dog is a little older (he’s a rescue) and he was having behavioral issues. He seemed easily unsettled, scared, and did not trust us as his new owners. Also we were having problems potty training him. Long story short, after sit means sit my dog is so calm and understands that he is part of the family. Also no more messes in the house so I can finally put the nice rugs out. He has also learned some great commands so we are able to communicate better. The owner was so nice and explained things to me so clearly. Would totally recommend to other pet owners. They really care!

We love it here! All staff is genuinely interested in my puppies progress. Well worth the investment!

When looking for a place to train our puppy, we did a ton of research and went in for evaluations with four different companies who each had a different method of training a dog. The first three were an absolute no go, and I was beginning to lose hope before we had our eval with Sit Means Sit. Alec came to our house and showed us how the stim collar worked and how they approached the training as the collar being associated with positive things. We immediately realized this was the training we needed. We will be traveling a lot with our puppy so it was important to have a fail-​safe when in airports, etc. We signed up for 3 private lessons and unlimited group classes. Every private lesson we have had, Alec or HP has stayed wayyy over the 1 hr slot, and they even gave us an extra lesson at no charge. Amazing. They told us that our puppy would benefit extensively from group classes, and that has been very true. After two of them something clicked in our dog’s head, and we really felt like he understood what we wanted him to do. Also, after group classes the trainers will give a mini private lesson for free if you notice your dog is struggling or has developed a new habit. It’s an extremely amazing value. Friends and family have noticed a huge difference in our dog’s behavior and tell us all the time that our decision to go with Sit Means Sit and spend a little money was a great investment. The staff has bent over backwards to help us and answers inquiries promptly. There are a lot of people in group classes that originally had their dogs trained with clickers and choke collars but find this to be way more effective. We love Sit Means Sit!!!

I highly recommend Sit Means Sit Houston. HP and company did an amazing job in training my 16^th month stubborn English Mastiff. After the one week board and train program, my mastiff comes when called, stays in place, and best of all I am able to walk him outside off leash. He sticks to me like glue. HP also gave a personal lesson on all the commands and how to continue to train to make a bomb proof dog with all sorts of distractions.
the program is pricey but definitely worth it. Great example on you get what you pay for. With the week training, you get free lifetime group lessons, and a free training cot which unfortunately does not fit my large dog.
My dog used to be that annoying dog that bothers my guests and other dogs. HP showed me the skills and tools to have total control in my house. I have tried other board and trains and have spent a fortune doing so. I wish I went to Sit Means Sit Houston first.

I would never take my dog to this place again. I bought their premium package that cost about $ 1350. That included 5 at home visits and unlimited group classes. Needless to say, the at home visits were a complete waste of time. They would show up, «train» for 20 minutes (actually they just put a shock collar on him and make him sit the entire time, nothing productive was done), and then they would pretty much talk the rest of the time. There was no real value gained and my dog learned nothing. I have tried to work with him (as the trainer did) and I see no results. Not only that, I was promised by the owner that he would come back a few additional times, since I wasn’t seeing results and I never heard back from him again. It has now been 3 months since we’ve spoke. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone!

Sit Means Sit Houston, Specifically their Head Trainer/​Owner H. P. has done amazing things with Poe, our 1 year old female Pit Bull Mix. The entire process has been handled professionally from the moment they arrived for the FREE in home demo to the day they came to pick up and the return of our dog everything has been 100% on point. This program worked wonders for our dog.
We have had Poe since she was 6 weeks old, she is the most sweet and loving dog we have. Over the last few months she has been showing signs of fear triggered aggression. She barked and growled her way out of a group dog course at another school. The school labeled her as a «reactive dog» and said we would need an animal behavioral specialist. We really didn’t know what to do at this point, the final straw came a few weeks later when she jumped, growled and nipped at my 70 year old aunt. We knew this behavior was more than we could tolerate and that we had to do something. Our dog is already is often pre judged due to her pit bull lineage so we were desperate for some help.
Thankfully we found out about Sit Means Sit Houston at a local home and garden show and shortly thereafter we called for a free demo. H.P. showed up and sat down and explained the methods & tools Sit Means Sit uses for training and listened to us as we discussed our specific issues and our the goals we had for our dog’s training. During the demo he met and interacted with our dog & spent about 30 minutes working with her in our front lawn while we watched. It was really great to see how much progress he was able to make in a short time and how humane the training was. After seeing that our dog was indeed trainable we discussed a variety of training options for our dog. They offered different packages and programs to meet a variety of budgets and lifestyles.
We settled on a 14 day full immersion training program where our dog would be picked up and boarded with one of their trainers that specialized in aggressive behavior for the full time. We knew that we didn’t have the time to teach her the fundamental groundwork of training ourselves so the option of having the professionals work with her and do this was the best of for us. This package comes with lifetime follow up visits & unlimited access to all of the group classes for the rest of our dog’s life. They also have a board and reinforce option where we can board her with a trainer for a small daily fee, this way she is with someone we trust and she can continue with a style of training she is used to.
We were nervous when the time came for our dog to get picked up, H.P. was very calm with her even when she was fighting with him about getting into the van. At no time was he ever loud, mean or physical with our dog, he always used calm, firm leash pressure and a good dose of patience to achieve his results. During the time she was with the trainer we did receive some photos & text updates regarding her progress to help keep us informed. We knew that she would be getting exposed to many different dogs, people & environments in the next two weeks, which is exactly what she needed.
When the time came for the delivery of our newly trained dog we did have plenty of expectations. Sit Means Sit Houston delivered on all of them! Our dog no longer pulls on the leash when we walk her & we can even walk her without the leash on at all most of the time. She sits on command, comes on command, lays down on command & places on command. When our dog left she was an insecure mess of unfocused energy that reacted to things in her environment with aggression. The dog that was returned to us now has the confidence and focus needed to excel & be a happy dog. She now has a solid foundation of training that will allow her to learn many new commands. The results are nothing short of amazing and we still have a few follow up appointments to work on new commands. We are so excited for the group classes as well. H.P. is even going to come work with our dog at my workplace which is one of her trigger environments.
To sum it up in short: Sit Means Sit Houston SAVED our dog from living a reactive based life of fear & brought her into a mindset that will allow her to make us happier pet owners & her a happier dog.
We don’t want to even think about what may have happened with Poe if we hadn’t found Sit Means Sit.

I am extremely impressed with the Sit Means Sit Dog Training. When we used to take our dogs for a walk they would pull and bark at other dogs, after just a few weeks it is a pleasure to take our dogs for a walk! My dogs no longer pull or bark at other dogs. My dogs have learned to «place» when someone comes to our front door. I would recommend Sit Means Sit Dog Training to everyone who owns a dog.
