Thanks to there staff this second generation restaurant is my pick for best restaurant in Houston! I am blessed with the opportunity to dine at the nicest places in houston and Segari’s is the one I go back to the most often.

Just left on a Friday night. Should have taken the hint when nobody was there at 6:00. Food had no flavor and without drinks $ 89. Will never go back

Ordered the ribeye and requested medium rare, but failed twice. Stick with the seafood if you visit here.

Had high expectations but was extremely disappointed. I ordered the crab cocktail which tasted like canned crab. I ordered the ribeye medium rare but came out well done and my girlfriends shrimp looked like it came out of a freezer bag. No prices on the menus. You’re better going to a chain restaurant than here.

Went for the seafood and wasn’t disappointed. The gumbo was really, really good and I’d go back for another bowl once a week if I lived in Houston. We shared a bread pudding and it was a fight for the last bite. Real french bread as the base — not bisquik! Our only complaint was the lack of attention by the wait staff. Two staff and only 6 tables that night, but we had to catch their attention just to get a refill on water. This is considered a $$$ restaurant and the bill certainly exceeded expectations. Service didn’t. Still, the gumbo trumped all.

I came for the promise of great Gumbo, and it wS definitely worth the visit. However, they took forever to serve me, and I was famished. About a 25 minute wait. I also had a tiny bowl of grilled veggies, and topped them off with a Blue Cheese vinaigrette, which does not come with it, but I’d asked for. Über Delish!

This is such a great restaurant. The seafood is fresh and delivered almost daily, the rack of lamb is the best in the city. I have worked at(four Seasons) and frequented many fine restaurants and there is something about this quaint restaurant that places it above all the rest. It is the type of meal that makes you feel good about paying the check. Angela, is the best. professional, fun and generous. She attends to all the details and doesn’t try to cut cost when quality is the key to this restaurants success. I didn’t know Sam but he sure left it in the best hand possible. Everything about this place works. The best crab in Houston.

We stumbled on Segari’s last night thanks to a colleague’s recommendation. A few observations: Parking was a little odd, in that we paid $ 5 across the street to someone my wife was convinced was skamming us. Turns out he wasn’t. Still, it felt a little sketchy. The restaurant itself is very small, which we liked, but it’s far from ideal for someone wanting a lively scene. The bar and dining area is basically just one room. The staff were awesome. I’d rate them the highest, even compared to the food. The menus didn’t have prices, which I don’t really understand. Isn’t that relevant? It just seems either affected or annoying, but either way, I can’t see any benefit to not listing prices. As for the food, the gumbo was great. We had the signature platter, which was just okay. While they certainly don’t skimp on serving crab, it didn’t have tons of taste. The bread pudding for dessert was quite good, too. All in, I suspect that one should stick with gumbo, something with spice for an entrée, and I bet that all of the desserts are good.

Met someone for a business lunch here and boy am I glad I did. It’s a small place and it’s a hidden gem. The owner was there and was extremely attentive to us. The food was all incredible… I started with the gumbo, and it was so meaty and spicey and delicious! Then I had the crab & shrimp salad, and boy was the seafood fresh!!! By the way, it also came with this delicious blue cheese dressing that is obviously homemade and not the creamy variety that i’m used to, but olive oil based with chuncks on blue cheese. It was heaven. Though I usually try to pass on dessert, my lunch partners who are regulars insisted, and I had the bread pudding, it was perfect. I can’t wait to come back here. If you’re looking for a cozy place with delicious homemade food, definately check this place out.

I have been here twice and both times it was very good. The gumbo is excellent(and they do not skimp on the shrimp) and the crab cakes are also excellent. Note — the restaurant is small so large groups may not do well here. Also, it gets very busy at lunch time. Btw — the place is not difficult to find. It is on a major street and has a sign outside. I found it easily when I first moved here. Edited Nov 2013: went back recently and the gumbo is still fantastic. But the crab cakes were heavy with oil.

I like the concept of this place and hope they do well. I think Segari’s has a lot of potential. The service was really good even though there was only one server and he got five tables all at the same time. I was with a friend and we ordered a couple of steaks. My steak, which was ordered with a desired temperature of medium, came out extremely overcooked. I asked for a new one and that one came out rare at first — which they did correct when I sent it back. I ended up with a steak which was cooked how I wanted but it seemed like the meat wasn’t very well marbled and lacked any decent flavor. Considering this is supposed to be a steakhouse, the cooks didn’t appear very experienced. I don’t mind paying for good food but this didn’t meet my expectations. My friends steak came out cooked correctly the first time but he agreed the overall flavor was pretty poor. I won’t be back.

Went to Segari’s for a special dinner last weekend and I had to write a review because my experience was amazing. First off, there IS a sign on the front and you can’t miss it. So if the whole«I may not be able to even find it!» thing was scaring you away don’t worry about it. Still, this does not take away from the hidden charm of Segari’s. There are still only about 10 tables in the whole place and no prices on the menu. I ordered a cup of gumbo which was delicious as well as the crab stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp with the veggie medley side. Now, I love bacon and shrimp, but have always been underwhelmed when having bacon wrapped shrimp, but not this time. This dish was perfect and I would order it every single time. My girlfriend had the Crabcakes with Wasabi TarTar and they were also very good. Now the reason I wanted to write a review: the service. The service was outstanding. Firstly, the two servers working that night were very friendly and made nice conversation. Also, our server apparently held on to our order a bit long and it took a while for it to come out. We were having a great time just relaxing and enjoying the ambiance, so we did not mind. However, our server apologized profusely AND comped us a round of drinks as well as an order of boudin, which, to be honest, I didn’t even see on the menu. The boudin was delicious and it was a very nice gesture for him to come out and give it to us on the house, along with a couple free drinks. I would highly recommend this restaurant because of the very good food and good service to match.

What an unexpected find! I had a bowl of gumbo to start which was delicious! For dinner I had the Ribeye and the flavor was great. The only thing that they could improve on is making homemade salad dressing. It is straight from the bottle. I judge a restaurant based on their salad. In my opinion, It is a simple dish and should always be outstanding. I will be back, just not for the salad.

My wife surprised me last night with a date-night dinner at Segari’s. We liked it! It’s a small restaurant on Shepard Dr., halfway between Washington Ave and Interstate 10. Seating is quite limited so I would definitely recommend making a reservation The wait staff were very polite, seating us immediately and giving us recommendations. As an appetizer, we started with a cup of their shrimp and sausage gumbo. Delicious. Try it We also observed customers who ordered the lump crab salad. Previous reviews and fellow customers complimented the lump crab salad. For our main courses, my wife had the Fried Shrimp and I had the lamb. The lamb was quite good but the Fried Shrimp was even better… wonderful taste and a very light batter. The lamb came with a choice of Fries, Onion Rings or Potatoes. My wife had the fries and I had the onion rings. The fries were much better For desert, we shared a piece of the Coconut Meringue Pie. Absolutely delicious… save room because it is so worth it. It’s a bit on the pricey side but great for a date night.

OK I did not know Sam either… and had heard of this place for years… and could never find it for years. It was about 8 years ago that there was finally a sign on the place(NOW i find it!!) Forever, I have been wanting to go and try it, but with all of the other restaurants in the Heights, I seem to forget it. Why??? Well one, I could never find it way back when, and 2 ever since Sam died, I rarely hear about it and 3 I knew by word of mouth it was pricy. Not that I am against paying high prices, but I cant always afford it. As my husband and I were turned away from our usual spots due to long wait times, we were driving back to the Heights and there Segari’s was! YES! Lets go! Ok I was suprised it was not crouded, and suprised there was no prices on the menu, however, I have found another seafood restaurant in Houston that serves FRESHLUMPCRAB Cocktail. WOW, price who cares, I am a crab lover and this was devine. It was worth every penny. The wine list is not great, but this is not Max’s of Mockingbird Bistro, this is Segaris, the seafood restaurant that everyone who went there knew Sam and Food Critics loved. For dinner I had the redfish toped with crab(shocker) with mixed veggies. Husband had the steak and potatoes. All were very well prepared and tasted wonderful. Fish was light and flakey and the crab. well what else have I not said about crab??! We also had the bread pudding for dessert. A large square piece with an amazing burbon sauce. I could have had just the sauce and been happy happy happy! So ok, the exterior and interior are nothing to ride home about, but I found the staff accommodating and the noise level low. Since it was also a place where they welcomed pipes and cigars, it had no reminats of a smoke smell. Ok so its not Brennan’s, but it is not Joes Crab Shack either. This is like the Red Snapper Inn in Surfside, fresh good seafood that you want to come back for.

Friend suggested this restaurant. We went on a Tuesday around 7:30 pm. Only 1 other table occupied. The décor was plain there was nothing exciting about it. So the prices did not make up for the décor. As stated by others on this site menu had no prices, you would hope they would be reasonable as the place was no big deal. But come on $ 33 for a filet Mignon? The salad dressing seemed like it came right out of the bottle — nothing spectacular nothing fancy. They didn’t even have a dessert that the that the waiter rattled off, so we had to get a substitute of brownie a la mode which was nothing compared to what you might get a Chili’s or Applebee’s, luckily it was free. I would not recommend this place at all — the food was overpriced the waiters were just so so and décor was just average. My guess is that they overcharged due to the lack of attendance at the restaurant. Do yourself a favor keep your money in your pocket and go down the street to Saltgrass because you might get a better deal there, and the bread won’t seem like it came out of a packaged product from the grocery store. Don’t recommend!

After reading all 6 reviews I decided to give Segaris a go. I wish that I would have just kept the cash and the calories! The BF and I were the only people in the restaurant for lunch on Monday. Perhaps there is a reason why the restaurant was devoid of customers: Started off with the House Salad w/Crab appetizer – Good amount of crab, in fact I could have just ordered this and been extremely happy except for the dressing. It is exactly as Melissa B. describes it(it tasted and looked EXACTLY like Wish Bone Italian– complete with the little orange/red chunks & minced garlic). This is their«house» dressing and it blew. Main course – Sauteed Crab Claws. The BF described it perfectly – Crab jerky. It was SO overcooked that it was chewy and almost burned. What a waste of crab!!! For dessert I opted for their famous Bread Pudding w/Whiskey Sauce. The texture & consistency of the bread pudding is the reason in general, that I don’t typically like bread pudding. It is like something that has been smashed together beyond recognition, then flattened into a brick-like sustance. The whiskey sauce was good though… Here is a run down of this lunch, since their prices are not on the menu: Iced Tea: $ 2.75 Cup of Gumbo: $ 6.95 App. House Salad w/Crab: 16.95 Sauteed Crab Claws: $ 18.95 Laura’s Sauteed Shrimp & Crabmeat: $ 31.95 Bread Pudding: $ 6.25
