Donating furniture — furniture pick up
Okay so my review is for The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center Pick Center via the following website and 800 number listed below. I’m not sure if this is the same location. If not, then go to this website to find the one I used.
And this website only lists an 800 number. 1−800−728−7825
Now, let me start with the kind– of-​sort-​of-​down-​side-​but-​not-​really which is that you can usually get your furniture donations picked up based on their availability and that can take a week. It would be nice to call on a Tuesday and get your donated items picked up that Saturday especially when you are getting new furniture delivered. So it’s not bad but you may have to do a little creative scheduling/​coordination.
You won’t know your delivery time until the day before. I was lucky to get a morning time slot (8am — noon). My truck arrived and I kid you not when I tell you that they literally took all of maybe 12 minutes taking out my furniture donations (living room and bedroom) out the door. I was very impressed. Then they took a few more minutes loading the truck but that makes sense because they probably have a lot more schedule pickups and have to pack everything neatly. And I didn’t know that the recliners comes apart. Well, apparently the newer ones do. Sorry I digress… well I do want to mention that the fast loading was also due to me having everything ready. See, I took the bed apart and had everything by the door ready to be loaded.
The drivers were very focused and all business and very nice. The very first thing they did was hand me my furniture donation receipt. It was a great experience and I do hope that my donation goes to a very happy home. I’d would use their services again and recommend to others. In fact, I call their office after the pick up so that they could hear good feedback right away. (This posting is meant to help you if you have furniture to donate.)
The last thing I will add is this service is completely free. Why am I saying this? Because when you start calling around for furniture pickups you will find that some places will quote you a $ 25 pickup fee which does not make sense because you are donating.

The driver told me twice that he had given the receipt to my wife. After he drove off, I asked her for the receipt only to find that she was never given one and the driver evidently was just trying to shut me up. So now I dont have a receipt for a refrigerator donation. That’s the last donation I will make to the Salvation Army.

My wife gave them a call. The guy told her that they don’t do pick ups, but after mentioning that we have had friends schedule pick ups with them, he said they didn’t want to pick up our working TV.
It might have been that guy doing something opposite to what Salvation Army stands for. So until we get a different treatment, a 1 star review will do.
I will try calling at another time/​day.

This is an excellent community service, both to the donor and the eventual recipients. Salvation Army has come to my various living places over the years to pick up furniture I no longer needed. They were very good about keeping me posted and arrived when they said they would. NOTE: You can’t add items to donate once they arrive, because every square foot in their truck is ‘spoken for’ by other donors. So be sure you have listed everything you want to donate to ensure that it all gets on the truck. The best part? You get a receipt for tax purposes.

Thank you Salvation Army for existing and more importantly, for picking up my unwanted stuff!!! Wow, these people really do something that I didn’t think existed: help you for free. Yes, it really is like Field of Dreams and if you call them, they WILL come! I called them on a Monday, and they were able to come on Thursday — and even gave me 3 days and hours of choices!!! They even called me an hour before they showed up, and were ACTUALLY on time… I know, I was over the moon and hit Pluto.
I figure these days if you are lucky enough to find someone that will actually drive over to you with a truck and take your hanis old crap and unwanted garbage, you would at least have to deal with a heap of negative stuff like: bad attitudes, be put on a waiting list for a month, have them not even show up, and just make you really suffer for it because after all, you don’t want it and just want it gone.
and I was ready and willing to deal with it all — I said BRING IT! I don’t want this stuff, so by all mean take it and let me suffer your wrath.
But no, I was wrong. I was more than wrong… the guys that came were really nice! and professional, and on time, and even cool! I thought there would be some catch at any moment, like they would ask me to escort them on the rest of their orders the rest of the day or something, but nope! They just took my old stuff that was too embarrassing to keep any longer, and off they went into the sunset.
And my happy ending is the receipt they left me so I can get tax credit for making a donation…. Happy!!!
