Service is horrible, and nothing’s changed in the past 3 years so… what do you do? It’s the only Popeye’s within a 5 mile radius for us, so we usually brace ourselves when we feel like satisfying a craving. Sad it has to be this way but… What… can…you…do?

Crummy service! First off, there was absolutely nobody there when we came. We ordered and pulled up to pay. Our drinks were literally half full when we got them! Then, we were told to pull up to the front. Why? Was it going to take them that long. I thought this was fast food? We got the food without a bag and they forgot to give us a side so we had to go back in. The lady was rude and definitely looked like she didn’t want to be there. Food wasn’t even hot, so there’s no way we waited that long for them to fry fresh food. I will avoid this location at all costs.

This Popeye’s is super slow and inefficient — I would highly recommend going elsewhere.

I love Popeye’s and recently moved to this area, I was really happy that there was one less than 5 minutes away! On my recent visit, I ordered the kid’s meal with one chicken strip. The guy thought I said drumstick, which in reality it was my fault for not asking for a tender and also not checking the bag. I went today with no receipt, because I could not find it and the manager was more than happy to replace my tender. I told her not to worry about the side and drink because I had consumed it yesterday, but she not only gave me a drink and side, she gave me two tenders. More than I expected. I love this Popeye’s!

Stopped to get a soda here. Within 3 gulps the soda was gone so I opened the cup to see how much ice they put in it and saw a whole bunch a gnats on top of my now empty soda. Of course I was super pissed and called to file a complaint. The guy that answer didn’t seem concerned about me drinking gnats. He just said that he was going to notify the manager. He didn’t offer me my money back or a discount on anything, A few days later the manager from Popeyes called me and said sorry and that the situation was being taken care of. Once again I wasn’t offered my money back or a discount. Looking back on it, I should have just called the health inspector.

I have to pass a KFC to get to Popeye’s — but, when I get that fried chicken craving — there’s only one fried chicken that will do it — Popeye’s spicy chicken. That craving used to come with the craving for their fried okra. But, apparently I was only one of ten people in Houston(most of the rest my friends and family I forced them upon), so they’ve been eliminated from the menu. Oh well, another excuse to eat fries. But, back to that chicken. They have a great deal that is something like 10 thighs and legs for $ 9. It’s not on the menu — but, ask for it and they’ll provide. The problem is — they aren’t always prepared for it when I have a craving. One Saturday afternoon, I headed that way, was hit by one of those torrential flooding Houston thunderstorms, but plundered on to the drive thru. There were a few cars in front of me, that took them awhile — no problem. They were completely out of spicy fried chicken when I got to the window and estimated 20 – 30 minute wait — PROBLEM! How do you run out of chicken — when you are a chicken place? Anyway, I’d already spent over an hour on my 30 minute allocated craving — so, I skipped the wait and the calories. But, the craving hung with me all week. So, the next Sunday I went back. They did slightly better they were out of spicy thighs — but they could give me legs only. Alright, I like thighs better — but, I didn’t want this to become a weekly habit — so, I settled for the legs. BOTTOMLINE: All in all, they have GREAT, CRAVABLE Spicy Fried Chicken at a good price. Just wish they figured out how to ensure they have it available when the craving hits.

This Popeyes closes early without warning. It’s also very slow. I usually go to the one on Ella instead.

I grew up eating KFC as my fried chicken restaurant choice. When I had it a couple years ago, I was so disappointed and knew I’d never go back again. I remember Popeyes biscuits being really good and thought I’ll try out the chicken again. OMG, why did I wait so long??? Popeyes has been the clear winner all along. If you take it to-go, it actually stays crispy until you get home to enjoy it! The pieces are sizable and are absolutely delicious. My favorite sides: biscuits and coleslaw.(Mashed potatoes taste like the powdered box kind.) Love that chicken from Popeyes! Woo!

After a recent discussion with a good friend, we both came the conclusion that Popeyes is the best fried chicken in Houston. I know that is a pretty bold statement that will make a lot of people upset. I could list out the competition and describe where they have failed and Popeyes has succeeded, but I wont. All I can say is whether it is a gourmet gastro pub or a divey ghetto local chain, Popeyes has em beat! This location, the one i frequent the most, is pretty unassuming located near a recently remodeled Kroger in the Heights. It is the closest location to me, and has dished out their consistently amazing chicken. Whether the consistency is due to their skills or the fast food chain model, I love it. Seasoned to perfection and always crispy, you cant go wrong ordering a bucket from here. Even with no line, the wait seems to always be long, but this just usually means my chicken will be freshly fried. I usually dont mess with the sides much, but just get some cole slaw and biscuits to have in between large pieces of chicken. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Boy do I love fried chicken. This is the closest to my house and it ain’t a bad location. Not to hate on Popeye’s but they are normally in less then prosperous type places but no issues with that with this one being in the Heights. Service is usually decent and professionally managed. Been several times with no issues with my order or service. Quality seems consistent so no issues there. Lets get fat!
