The customer service was awesome! It was busy when my honey and I went there on a Saturday. They said it would be a 40 minutes wait. They were faster than 40 minutes we were seated in 23 minutes. The waiters were awesome, busy, and kind! I love this place. Food delicious!

Sat at the bar as I was having lunch alone. Service with Lauro was good, quick, and unintrusive. I ordered the lunch chicken enchiladas, no onions. Order came out with onions, so got a fresh one. The food was rather bland, not bad, but nothing stood out either.

SHIZATHISPLACEISGOOOD!!! Man what a great place for dinner! First of all our waiter Lupe had great customer service and always made sure we were doing well. We made reservations for my sister’s birthday and we arrived 5 min late and they still had our table ready and sat us right when we got there! The food… omg the food… AMAZING! I ordered their seafood special that evening and it was perfect. I literally had to close my eyes and take it all in. They brought out some flan for my sister and I ended up eating the entire thing because it was so good! I will mention they are expensive… my drink was $ 14 and my dish was $ 28 but I think you definitely get your money’s worth. IFYOUWANT A GOODDRINKORDERTHEELMILAGRO!!! Makes you feel good Dress nice. This is a fancy-ish place

Anyone who gave this place more than 3 stars lied to you Unilocalers… don’t trust their reviews. I went in tonight for dinner. I ordered their tacos which they claim won an award for best tacos… who issued this award? Whoever did don’t trust them either, because they lied to you also. Those tacos were greasy and gross. Literally drowning in grease. Like they couldn’t take a couple of minutes to just drain the grease off… yuck. I also ordered chili con queso and told my friend«there is something very familiar about this queso… like I’ve had it before.» She said it’s the exact same queso they use at Chilis and she was right. Service was slow, food was greasy and everything is overpriced. Save yourself a trip, don’t go there. I was so disappointed. Save your money and your time!

Pretty terrible that a restaurant can turn down a large corporate order of food because they refuse to take credit card over the phone. This is just unacceptable and unprofessional. I along with many of my colleagues work very long hours and unfortunately do not have time to go pick up the food and pay with our credit card at the restaurant. We send a courier to pick up the food and we typically do large orders and tip handsomely. As a result of this unprofessionalism, we will no longer be dining with Picos.

Gosh I miss the old location. It had so much flavor and character. I feel like the food even tasted better at the Bellaire location. The new location holds true to the neighborhood. If you catch my drift. Yes, you can find better Tex-Mex around town(you are in Houston for heaven sakes) however Picos is a solid choice, even the new location. Make a reservation during popular dining hours and this will help alleviate a wait. Go on . Trust me! Parking can be disastrous during peak hours so you might want to plan ahead and just valet. Perfect for one on one, groups and large parties. Inside and outside dining. Their margaritas are GREAT and they have several margarita/tequila drink choices. I’m partial to the basics — cheese enchilada and they do make them irresistible!

Pico’s is rather interesting. Sometimes service and. food are excellent and others they are both lack luster. I took my office staff her for happy hour and we sat in the bar. It took a good 10 minutes for a waiter to notice the large table of 7 and it turned out the waiter was not even assigned to our section. He did a pretty good job though and kept us all with full drinks. They have a soft shell crab dish that is amazing. I’d give it a 5 star all day long. This is not on the menu all the time, only when it is soft shell season. Their fajita beef is not as good as it could be. I hate to say it is so much better next door but it is. I ordered a Carne asada steak and it came out like a plate a fajitas. I thought the meat could have used some seasoning and the veggies definitely more of a grill. For margaritas they have you covered. There are tons of options to chose from and I have never had a bad one. Queso is so so. I wouldn’t order it again. The chicken and spinach quesadilla was surprisingly very good as are the mole enchiladas. Solid 3.5 stars and if the service was consistent it would be an easy 4.

If you’re looking for traditional Tex Mex, then you shouldn’t go to Picos. I’m not claiming that it’s authentic Mexican food but it’s much closer than the other joints here in Houston. My boyfriend grew up visiting central Mexico quite often so he was extremely excited to try this place. I must say, they did not disappoint! Their red sauce doesn’t last very long at our table. It tastes so fresh and homemade that I want to buy it by the gallon! The green sauce is an acquired taste but I personally love it. We honestly get so full on chips and salsa that we rarely have room for our entire entrees. If you’re going to get an appetizer, you should definitely order off the menu. They do a great queso flameado, but you should ask for the shot of tequila on top and the chorizo mixed in. They’ll light it on fire right in front of you and you’ll clean the plate! I usually order the enchiladas suizas and my boyfriend orders something different every time. Definitely get their charro beans rather than the refried beans. The loss of a star is the parking situation. I think it’s silly to have to valet when my spot is right next to the front door…

I eat here all the time and have never had a bad experience. The place is semi-pricey but the food is good and they have a wide variety. I usually eat here with my elderly grandmother with dietary restrictions and they are very accommodating. Unlike a lot of Mexican food restaurants in Houston, it’s clean. Good place.

This is one of those places that tries to get you inebriated so they can mask their terrible food. But seriously guys what gives??? I’ll start by saying the ambiance was nice yaddy yada. Our waitress was nice and I didn’t keep count but told us thank you like 232 times. After making it seem like the small margarita was going to basically be a shot glass, I got the medium and it was pretty good size. How big was the large??? There was a table discussing politics next to us… loudly…so thankfully this thing was potent! It could’ve used another lime. Things tried: Chips and Salsa-3 stars– green salsa was funky, red was alright. Chips were usual. Frozen Margarita-4 stars– $ 11.50 for medium. Ask for extra lime wedge, potent! Enchiladas de Mole– 2 stars-$ 14.00– the mole sauce smells like the peanut sauce they make at Asian places. The taste on these were just. Not. Enchiladas Suizas– 4 stars– $ 14.00-these were pretty good. They give a lot of melted cheese which saved the day! Different from Suizas I’ve tried at other places but good. Beans and Rice– 1 lonely star– biggest disappointment of all. I know I am a tough judge for beans and rice. It’s On the majority of plates and deserves to be at the very least edible. The beans tasted like they came right out of the generic can. But when I looked to the rice for comfort. …These were terrible too! Why are we adding so many green beans and carrots to rice??? And what is that flavor? I didn’t even finish them. And I always finish beans and rice. So sad. If you are going for happy hour, just pick up some food from pappasitos across the street.

Went here for Easter brunch with our mothers and came out bloated and satisfied. Everything from the house made pastries to the rich and flavorful broths, this brunch buffet hit all the right marks. My family and I have been going to picos since its original location in the bellaire area where it was more Tex-mex fare. I myself was never too big of a fan of tex-mex but this new location serving more authentic«mex-mex» has been a huge upgrade. It took me a while before my wife could convince me that this new picos was different than before and I’ll admit… she was right lol Each item on the brunch menu was flavorful and it was evident that the quality here rivals other similar Sunday brunches(I.e– caracol, Hugo’s, churrascos) As big as the restaurant is, although it was busy, it never felt too crowded which is a big plus for a relaxing Sunday. We’ll be back for sure

Having followed all the restaurants that came and went in this location, I decided to try Pico’s new place, and it was a pleasant surprise. At their Valentine’s brunch, the beef was expertly done, something to remember for quite a while. And the flan – out of this world, as were other desserts. The others there seemed to be regulars, all very happy with what they were having. I joined their frequent diner list, and will be back soon. Service equally exceptional.

This place is the Taco Bell of non fast food Mexican restaurants. Taco Bell would probably be offended for being compared to this place. So I was craving Cochinita Pibil this night and it was the only place in town that serves it. I went and sat down at the bar and ordered what I was craving. It was the worst Cochinita Pibil that I ever had. Sure the pork was tender from slowly cooking(or pressure cooking) but It was bland and not seasoned at all. It was god awful for an entrée sold for $ 16. Don’t be fooled by the Zagat rating(as this joint was Zagat rated), it doesn’t mean Michelin star. When restaurants gets bigger, food quality tends to suffer. This place taste more like fast food. Anyway, happy eating.

Bad: I ordered the seafood enchiladas that were supposed to come with shrimp and crab. Although the shrimp was good, the crab was imitation crab and was horrible. It made the enchiladas have a weird taste. Good: great environment for a celebration! I would just have to try something else next time.

So we’ve been back a good half a dozen times, now, and it has been much better than our first couple of experiences. They’ve shortened their wine list, which was a good decision. Since then, we haven’t had any issues with the wrong bottle, or with them being out of our preferred bottle. Also, I love their breakfast menu. For one, they open at 9am on weekends. But more importantly, the drowned eggs are pretty much the best hangover cure known to man.

Thank you very much for your offer to return. I was able to try a variety of other items from the menu as I dined with a group of individuals during my visit. I will not go into detail about their items and comments as I think that would be unfair. However, I will mention that I did not find the other items to be very tasty to me. I do suggest to others reading Picos reviews — please give it a try, there are a lot of menu items, so you may find something that you enjoy.

It was our first time here and the service from our waiter(Hector) was amazing. He brought us a few extras for the table when he found out it was out first time here. We had a variety of food and drinks and everything was amazing. These were one of the best margaritas that I’ve ever had(no pre-made margarita mix here!). I split the chicken mole pablano with my sister-in-law and it was a huge and absolutely delicious serving. I’m already looking forward to my leftovers tomorrow. The restaurant was a last minute pick, but I was looking forward to trying it since the menu had a variety of dishes to choose from. Located on Kirby, it was an easy find and since I arrived a bit earlier, I was able to find a parking spot. Even if not, there is street parking and a parking garage nearby the area. The hostesses were nice and promptly led us to our reserved table when it was ready, and the restaurant seems spacious and clean with cultural decors here and there. It was busy on a Saturday evening, so everything seems promising so far. As for the actual dining experience, the waitress that helped us was also very nice and got the job done. Food was also served in a timely manner. I liked the taste of the complimentary green dipping sauce served with the chips. It had a tangy flavor, but I enjoyed it. I ordered the acapulco ceviche and the enchiladas de mariscos. The acapulco ceviche was pretty good, and my friends also liked the taste of it. It first came in a glass, but then the waitress helped put it in a dish. I was confident that my entrée should be good, but it did not reach my expectations as I find all components quite bland. The whole entrée came to me warm rather than hot, and enchiladas served warm isn’t the best in my opinion. The enchiladas was not that cheesy, and that is ok, but I didn’t like the texture of the tortillas at all. The flavors of the shrimp and crab also didn’t leave an impression much. I had substituted spinach instead of beans for my side on the enchiladas de masricos, and while it cost extra, it had no taste at all. On its own as a separate side, it would’ve been $ 7 for the spinach, but I do not see why when its taste is nothing special. Overall, the parking, service, and ambiance was quite satisfactory, the chips and dips plus appetizer provided a good start, but the entrée kicked off a star. Would I go back again? I wouldn’t mind, but it’s not a top selection for me.

Since buying tamales from a co-worker is no longer an option this year due to company layoffs, we had to find a reliable substitute. My hubby saw that Pico’s had a holiday tamale stand AND that they had chicken with mole tamales that he was dying to try. It’s more than we usually pay for tamales, but he really wanted some, and we liked Pico’s when we had dinner at the old location. We drove across town on Monday and got to the stand at 11:30, 30 minutes after they opened. We planned to get ½ dozen of three types of the traditional ones(not the more expensive banana-leaf wrapped ones that we can’t afford): veggie, chicken in green chile, and chicken with mole. They didn’t have either the veggie or the chicken with green sauce, the two types I really wanted– and it would be a 2 hour wait for them — so I was really disappointed. Luckily, they had the chicken with mole and we got another ½ dozen of beef with red chile, a type neither of us really wanted, but I don’t eat pork, so those were out. I put them in the freezer when we got home and took them out this morning to thaw. I took them out of the bag and discovered that instead of the chicken with mole tamales(the whole reason we went there in the first place), they sent pork… which I don’t eat. So, none of the tamales we got for our holidays are the kinds we wanted. Recap: We went to buy chicken mole, chicken with green sauce, and veggie — got none of these We got beef with red sauce(neither of us like beef tamales) and pork tamales(I don’t eat pork) We went to another place and got some with chicken with green sauce. A disappointing experience for a much-anticipated holiday dinner. Meh. Update 1÷7÷15 — Pico’s reached out with an offer of a gift card, something I didn’t expect, but fully appreciate. We look forward to eating there.

As a mother of two I was excited about having a night out kid free. My husband surprised me by coming here after I saw the article in the Texas Monthly. We of course got the chilorio. I got the Chiles en Nogada Tradicionales which is something completely different then anything I’ve ever tried at a Mexican restaurant but all the ingredients are things I love and glad I gave it a try because it was delightful. My husband had the Enchiladas de Acociles and it was amazing. As a server myself I am understanding when things go wrong… This is the first time everything was flawless when dining out. We were promptly greeted, our drinks came out right away and were never empty. Our appetizer came out in a timely fashion and we were able to enjoy it before our meal came out without being rushed. Our table was prebussed and cleared of clutter. Our server was friendly and kind, always making sure we were okay without nagging us. I can go on but to sum it up this is a very well run restaurant that I we will definitely return to.

I’ve read a number of positive articles about this restaurant and have been wanting to try it for awhile(esp after Texas Monthly named it in the top ten place in Texas to get a taco)… That being said, I had high expectations and I still left satisfied. Course my dad footed the bill. First: Setting The ambiance is nice(the Christmas décor up right now is especially lovely). It’s not the kind of establishment you should wear your yoga clothes to. Second: Staff The waiter and other wait staff were polite and attentive without being overbearing. Also, I’m relatively sure the hostess was apart of the Pico family. Just a hunch. Third: Food The salsa was top notch. The red sauce was the right consistency, light, yet full of substance with a chipotle like flavor. Not chunky or watery. It was kind of spicy according to my dad. The green sauce was also awesome. We both had the Caldo Tlalpeno soup(chicken, rice, & vegetables in a flavorful broth). Again the soup was very good and I felt it was filling enough for a meal. We also split the Enchiladas de Espinacas. I was less impressed with the enchiladas, but the sauce was good, and the green rice and black beans accompany in it were okay. The soup was just better. Overall, I liked the the place.

I hate spending a non-trivial amount of money on a dinner and not enjoying it. I ordered an Enchilada. It was just ok. A dish that told me absolutely nothing. I am not saying it was bad… just nothing special. I also tried some pork taco as appetizer. It was actually a waitress suggestion. Again, nothing special. :(The best part: the margarita was spectacular! Nice service and elegant deco; definitely more elegant that Navigation Blvd. restaurants(but same noise… it was really noisy!). We tried Picos because we saw an article in Texas Monthly that claimed that Pico’s chilorio taco is one of the best tacos in Texas – Texas Monthly was right, and the chilorio did not disappoint and was fantastic! It’s a pork taco and a MUST if you visit Pico’s. We also tried chick and steak combo fajitas, which were just OK – I really wish we had just stuck with the chilorio order and some other side to go with it. And I always judge a Tex-Mex restaurant by its flour tortillas – I’d give Pico’s flour tortillas a 4 out of 5 stars – they weren’t quite as good or as thick as my favorite tortillas at Ninfa’s or El Tiempo(which would both get 5 out of 5 stars for tortillas and everything else at those two restaurants), but Pico’s flour tortillas were pretty good. Also, I really appreciate that Pico’s is on Open Table – it always makes things so much easier. There are a lot of Tex-Mex option in Houston, and while Pico’s may not be my #1 favorite, I liked it, particularly the chilorio.

I was very impressed by this place. We had driven by a few times, as we live on Kirby, but I had never stopped in before. I had been desperately searching for Mexican food(not Tex-Mex, sorry but there is a real difference), and I stumbled across this place and knew I had to try it. I would definitely recommend just valeting the car with the complimentary valet, as it’s not worth trying to find a spot on your own to save the $ 2. The valet were nice and attentive, and we didn’t have any problems. We had made a reservation and when we walked in, we only had to wait 5 minutes before being seated, so we were already off to a good start. Atmosphere(3): Now this is where I was a little conflicted. The right side of the restaurant looked like it may have had a slightly different feel, but on the left side, where we sat, I thought it was a super casual feel. It was a tiny bit like a large cafeteria in layout for me, but still a fun casual place. This would not be my ideal date place unless you’re going for that particular feel. Food: — Pescador ceviche(5) — Our waiter recommended this to start with the shrimp(5). When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at the presentation and amount of food we got for $ 10. The flavors came together beautifully, and I was really happy with this dish. –Pollo en Mole Poblano(4) — Boyfriend had this dish, and I tried a bit. It was the more«bland» of the two moles, but my boyfriend preferred it that way. He really enjoyed his dish, which also came with rice, refried beans, and tortillas. –Pollo en Mole Negro Oaxaqueno(4) — I really enjoyed the interesting flavor of this mole sauce. It was definitely not something I could whip up at home, and that’s really what I look for in my restaurant choices. This comes with refried black beans and a black rice that were delicious. I would definitely get this again. My boyfriend also really enjoyed the salsas at the beginning of the meal and finished an entire basket of chips to enjoy them. It’s also worth noting that there are quite a few other dishes that I would love to try, and to me, this really does make Pico’s a great place to try. Service(5) — Our waiter was very attentive overall, and I appreciated his suggestions. He seemed genuinely enthusiastic about the food as well. We also noticed our water glasses were never more than halfway empty, which really goes to show you how diligent their staff is. Please note: Their drink prices, as noted by other Unilocalers, do not make sense to me at all. They have a glass of la Crema at almost the cost of the entire bottle. I would not recommend getting wine here. We, as a result, did not drink anything.

Went here for dinner on a Friday night. I like the ambiance and the tequila lockers on display in the back dining room. Feels fancy but the prices are very reasonable. My boyfriend and I shared the Mucho Grande Margarita 47oz for $ 17.50, I loved it! Worth getting versus two grande margs for $ 11.50 each. Tried the Calamari in olive oil $ 12 – I thought it was kind of bland but the squid was cooked perfectly. They had an array of different Mexican dishes inspired by various regions of Mexico, so not your average Tex-mex place across the street(Pappasitos). I was pretty boring though and wanted the steak Fajitas for two for $ 32, they give plenty of guacamole, rice and charro beans for each person. Perfectly cooked, although I feel like El Tiempo fajitas might be slightly better because I feel like they give you more meat for the same price. Our friends ordered a mole dish and enchiladas, which looked delicious. Overall the service was great and had a great evening here.

I went to Pico’s on a Sunday at 2:00 with my mom and sister for Houston Restaurant Weeks. We all LOVE Mexican and Tex-Mex food so we were excited to try it for the first time. But honestly I wasn’t that impressed. First of all, I didn’t love their chips and salsa. I’m somewhat grateful because I tend to fill up on them before my food even arrives. I ordered the Ceviche Pescador. It was OK but nothing spectacular. I had to add salt. And it would have been nice if it included a lime slice. I wish I had ordered the Ensalada Verde instead because the cilantro-poblano dressing sounded tasty. My sister had the Chicken Tortilla Soup(Caldo Tlalpeño) and really enjoyed it. It looked good. For our second courses, we both had the Enchiladas De Tejas with shredded chicken. Again, it was mediocre. The enchiladas only had shredded chicken inside the tortillas. No onions, peppers, pico or anything else to give it more flavor. It was just shredded, bland chicken. Really disappointing. I did like the enchilada gravy though. For dessert, we both also ordered the Dulce de Leche cake which wasn’t even on the HRW lunch menu online. It was rich and flavorful. And I ate all of it. Of course I did. It was dessert after all. But I found myself wishing I had ordered the Arroz Con Leche(Rice Pudding). As far as the staff, the hostess was really sweet and friendly. She walked me to the table where they were already seated. She didn’t have to do that. She could have just pointed in the direction of their table. So that was very courteous of her. I was very disappointed with our server. He was NOT friendly at all. In fact, I don’t think he smiled at all during our service. I don’t enjoy getting servers with no personality. I’m a friendly person and expect the same from the staff. His unfriendliness actually prompted me to fill out a comment card which I never do. So overall, I’ve had better food and much better service. I’m not sure I’d go back. It wasn’t terrible by any means. But I’d much rather go to Pappasito’s Cantina any day.

Authentic Mexican menu with super friendly waitstaff(Jorge from Mexico City is the best). I loved my enchiladas en mole poblano. Hubby liked the smoky chile tortilla soup. The green salsa they serve with the chips is to die for. Love mariachi music a huge bonus. Didn’t love the Mexican rice — had too much green bean flavor from the frozen vegetable mix. And the hostess staff is not very smart or helpful. But worth the wait! Make s reservation on the weekend. It gets super crowded(and loud).

From the margaritas to the extensive tequila collection you will not be disappointed with the cocktails nor the wine. Food: I have tried the Pork and Lamb Shank(I cannot remember the meal names on the menu but the waiter will know what you are talking about). I was very satisfied with my experience here for it being my first time here. A friend of mine had recommended this place several times, so I decided to to follow his advice. The atmosphere was relaxing as every welcoming. The restaurant was very clean and nicely put together. They have two patios to enjoy great weather while dinning. The food was decent, I had fajitas for one. I unfortunately can’t say they are the best I have had, but they were good! The tortillas are homemade and they are delicious! Like the kind grandma made with melted butter! Mouthwatering! The icing on the cake here were the margaritas! They are fabulous! I will say, they are the best margaritas I have had. Now, I only had the house margarita in mango flavor, made with real mango. So if the house drinks were this top notch, I will return to try their top of the line drinks! What made my does time here experience so positive was the service. We had Antonio serve us and he was friendly and very quick on his feet to ensure we were always taken care of. Pros: drinks, service, Atmosphere. Cons: food is decent, expected excellent and price. Drinks and food will cost you a pretty penny. Overall it’s a great place for lunch or dinner!
