This is the best cheesesteak in town!!! Great bread and the cheese is perfect. Tried both the steak and chicken. Both were tasty.

This new establishment is a branch from the original papa genos, a sibling of the delicious founding restaurant. I originally had papa genos when they catered for our school senior picnic a couple years ago. I wasn’t aware it was them at the time, but I was haunted by the most perfect cheese steak that I’ve ever had– so I did my research. While the original establishment is pretty far from where I am located but I was able to visit this new one! The ambiance and environmeny mimics their original feel and their orange and blue colors are iconic. Today I only ordered the number 2: Philly with cheez whiz and it was good enough for two! Huge sandwhich full of meat, onion, and deliciously melted cheese. The combo also came with hot fries. Overall it was perfect and nostalgically delicious. The service was fast and simple. You guys will do great!

Never accept a cheap imitation. This place tries to rip off Joey Veto from Geno’s Steaks in Philadelphia but seriously the colors and name are all they have in common. This place marinated their meat. This is not how it’s done in Philly. That is how you do a taco, not a Cheesesteak. I am sitting in Papa Geno’s right now and they are blasting Mexican music. Joey Veto should sue this place for copyright infringement. This place is no a Philly Cheesesteak place it’s a Mexican sandwich shop dressed up like Geno’s Steaks. If I could be funded, I could provide the first authentic Philly Cheesesteak experience in Texas. Somebody step forward to fund me and I will bring the taste of Philadelphia to Texas!

I have to say, I’ve found my to go to for cheesesteaks. I moved to Houston from the north, Pittsburgh. So it’s relatively close to Philly. I’ve missed home because my husband and I are big hoagies fan. We’ve ordered from many places some are ok and most are bad. And this place is bomb! From the fries/onion rings to the subs. Omg so yummy! I am devouring this sub while I write this review lol Prices are a tiny bit higher than others but I will pay an extra $ 1 or $ 2 for some good subs!

This is the 2nd time in a year that I have eaten at Pappa Geno’s. This visit was at their newest location off Elderidge. Both times, the people I was meeting for lunch said that the cheesesteaks were great. But I have to say that I have been twice disappointed. They use some type of seasoning on their meet that just doesn’t taste right and leaves the sandwich severely lacking when compared to actual cheesesteaks you’d find in Philadelphia. I also take issue with Pappa Geno’s bread. A true Philly steak is served on a slightly chewy French-style roll. The rolls PG and more like the Mexican Bolillos roll which is too soft and doesn’t quite get the job done in my opinion. It is not hard to make a proper Philly Cheesesteak. All you need is: Fresh sliced rib-eye steak, a little olive oil for grilling(not just water for steaming), butter for sauteing fresh veggies, any type of cheese, and a decent French baguette. If PG was a Philly cheesesteak joint, it would be sitting in quiet shame. But for Houston, it will have to do because nobody else has been able to step forward and fill the void. So I guess I will be back when jonesing for a lacking half decent cheesesteak. I have to award only 2 stars because I think this place is capable of improving their product, but I will be fair in the future after visiting and observing notable improvements. I am really pulling for this place as I love a great Philly steak, and have no doubt that this place will be around for long time.

So good! Really… these cheese steaks are amazing! I want to eat them all day, every day. So why did it get 4 stars instead of 5? In our household… we call them ‘slothy’. You will feel hella sluggish afterwards, but you’ll have that content ‘food coma’ feeling going on. You pick if it’s worth an extra star or not… but, in the end, you will be completely satisfied! :-) ENJOY!

Excellent Chicken Cheesesteaks! I ordered it with mushrooms and it rocked! Almost as good as being in Philly. The bread is sturdy enough to keep the sandwich together and tastes pretty good. The chicken, onion, mushroom filling was flavorful. The cheese was a good amount and didn’t overpower the other flavors. The fries were slightly crispy — perfection. Overall the food was tasty and filling. The service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere was generic. Unfortunately there isn’t much effort to bring Philly style to the place. I’d love to have seen photos of the Italian Market, Old City, City Hall, etc. We will return occasionally however it’s not really a place to create events for Philly ex-pats to watch sports. A missed opportunity.

Cheese steak and fries were good. Atmosphere was way below average. Music was blaring and cutting in and out which was so annoying. The value wasn’t there. $ 13.50 for a lunch combo served in a plastic basket. 5 stars for taste 2 stars for atmosphere 2 stars for value

I tried the Wicked Philly, surprisingly it was a bit spicy, I didn’t think it would be. The Philly cheese fries were really good, enough for two. Overall, the food was good, I’ll go again.

I just love this place. I was going to the Ella Location but it’s just too far for me. I was so happy to find that a location opened up near me. I always get the Philly cheesesteak with the cheese wiz and cheese fries with the gravy on the side. It’s not a healthy meal so I don’t eat it all the time but only when I get a craving for it. It’s so good that I split the Philly cheesesteak three ways for a 2, 4 and 7 year old and it’s enough for them. Definitely try them, you will be going back for more.

If you want super yummy goodness, this is the place to be. Checked this place out one evening. It was Clean, friendly guy at register, quick to get order and delicious would be an understatement. I noticed 3 customers in the store, and another family walking in as I ordered and waited for my take out. So it has constant traffic which is a good thing. Only tried the number 1 so far but it was huge and so so good. Good price for the amount of food you get. Was very filling and I can’t wait to come back. Disclaimer: this place is NOT for the diet conscious… like…at ALL! Lol had to take a star away because I can not make this place a regular for me… ohh but what a treat!

I love the cheese in this place, But what do I love more than cheese? The hot blonde at the register. She’s always so sweet and funny. She doesn’t look down on me for ordering a #1 and #2 almost everyday for lunch. Customer service is on point.

Best philly’s in town… stop me when I lie!!! So we were driving back home from staying busy all day like we usually are on weekends, when I pull out my trusty Unilocal App to find something new in the area and much to my amazement, Pappa Geno’s comes out that they have a new location down the street from where we live. Well, you know we just had to drive a little out of our way to come get dinner here and they obviously didn’t disappoint! For all you northwest-siders who have never been to a Pappa Geno’s because you don’t necessarily venture much to the northside or to the westside where the other locations are, you’re absolutely in for a treat if you stop by this place. Nothing on the menu is subpar and believe me when I say that I’ve pretty much tried everything they have to offer! also, please DONOT compare this place with that weak establishment down the road called Philly-Connection or something like that… I seriously have no idea why that place is even in business anymore!

*This review is for the Eldridge/West Little York location not Ella!* Pappa Genos is the reason why now I love to eat cheesesteaks, because before I found the original one in The Heights I couldn’t stand to eat them. When I was traveling home one day and saw the sign for it, I felt like the Geto Boys and thought that my mind was playing tricks on me! Went in last night for dinner and ordered the usual Pappa Genos cheesesteak and a side of gravy fries. The recipe didn’t disappoint, just as solid as the original location. Had a chance to talk to Paul and he explained his reasoning for expanding out to the Burbs and I told him thanks for putting it around the corner from my crib! I can see this spot getting super busy during the weekday lunch period being that the area doesn’t have anything like it(well there’s another place but it sucks). I welcome the orange and white checker design to my area and will add a cheesesteak or two to my waistline for sure. Ugh, seems like these establishments can hear my inner thoughts about the food in the Burbs sucking and are trying to silence me. Bring them on yo, so I can save my snaps from the petro!

All ye NW people, get on your feet! Dance! Cheer! Sing! Scream it out loud!!! Pappa Geno’s has opened up here in the NW side! Located right off of N. Eldridge and W. Little York, Pappa geno’s now occupies what used to be Murphy’s Deli(bleh) and is ready to let you NW people taste some cheesesteak nom nom nom yumminess(just go with it, ok? Don’t be a grammar police.) This location offers the same great taste with the Ella location, but with more seats and bigger signs. The restaurant wasn’t too packed when I got there(past lunch time) but it’s probably because people up here still don’t know much about Pappa Geno’s. I picked up a friend who works about three miles away from this location and his reaction was, «there’s a cheesesteak restaurants near here?» However, this location has only been opened a little over two weeks(when this review was written) and I’m sure, more people will catch on. I ordered my usual order(#7 — Philly works) and as I mentioned above, same great taste. Hot, greasy, yummy in my tummy. My friend ordered the wicked philly and absolutely loved it! Just like the Ella location, there’s a(new) fountain drink machine, so refills are always free. Really, my experience here is pretty similar with the Ella location. HOWEVER, when I ordered the onion rings, it only came with SIX; Yes, SIX small onion rings. For $ 2.99, I’m expecting more than that, yo! $ 0.50 for a tiny onion ring is not going to fly too long with me. Anyway, if you work near here, be sure to come check it out. Don’t always go to NY pizzeria, or wherever you go to for lunch. Try some cheesesteak goodness that is Pappa Geno’s. You can thank me later. Or, better yet, invite me over and buy me a cheesesteak. I’ll have the fat Philly please.
