This lone BBQ shack, on the corner of Long Point and Campbell, adds even more flavor to the cultural bizarreness of Spring Branch. We walk in looking for Old Smokey, with his long gray beard – wrangling slabs of beef but are taken by surprise when we are greeted by the cutest little, elderly Asian couple. I was a little concerned because it’s clear from the lack of BBQ smell that they don’t smoke the BBQ on location or maybe they smoke it early? Well, maybe not clear – but that’s my theory anyway. This remote bar-b-q-ing made me ponder jetting on the place, yet the smiling faces behind the counter presented a conflict. That’s when an apparent regular came in and placed an order and I saw them slice the brisket. A magnificent sight as it glided off the knife, exposing it’s fine smoke rings. We were sold. Really cheap BBQ sweetened the deal. We ordered the family pack #1: 1lb of meat(beef or link), ½ pt. of beans, ½ pt. of potato salad, ½ pt. sauce and a half loaf of wonder bread. The wonder bread makes me smile. Anyways – a lot! $ 10.90. What a bargain! The brisket is really good. A little fatty but it has nice flavor and it’s tender. The ribs weren’t knockout(yes we ordered more than the family pack) but still good. They still have a little of the fatty issue. We squeezed an order of fries in there. They seem to be hand cut. Not sure on that score, but they were pretty damn tasty. Hot and fresh! It’s a small shack looking place like I said. There’s a counter and cramped seating against the windows with little tables and bar stools. There are also picnic tables outside. Don’t expect a restaurant. I think it used to be a Hartz Chicken. It’s the closest BBQ that I like(from where I live), so I may be making my carnage runs here when the itch hits. There’s a bingo hall on the same lot, so I could even kill two birds with one stone!
