Nomad Tavern had just the right amount of dive bar and the most random selection of music. Songs went from classic rock to R&B to alternative to country to 80’s pop. Everyone there seemed to have enjoyed themselves. There was a stripper pole in the middle of the floor next to the bar with a sign that said«use at own risk». I can dig it. I bet it gets the kind of rowdy fueled only by the cheap beer from the bar. Cheap was right. Less than $ 3 a beer. This is the quintessential less is more. I have yet to be here for their Thursday steak night. It will happen. Some random old guy walked up to my friends girlfriend and introduced himself. It was kind of weird until we all realized it was the owner. He had wanted to introduce himself to us as he recognized that we were new people. That was pretty cool. The kind of guy that grew up in the area and now has a small business in the area he gew up in.

I’m not gonna lie, the first time I rolled up to the Nomad I wasn’t completely sure I was going to get out of my truck and go in. But I took a deep breath and walked in. Yeah, you have your local ice house folks, blue collar guys sitting around a bar, tossing back a few cold ones, but when I walked in the bartender greeted me more friendly than most places in the Houston. I planned to stay for a couple, but it ended up being a late night, complete with Larry(the owner) getting food for everyone at the bar. Needless to say, I’ve been back fairly frequently ever since. Don’t get fooled by the looks of the place, they have some of the coldest beer in town, and a great selection. From Schlitz(yeah, that one… in the BOTTLE no less) all the way to seasonal St. Arnold’s beers. So, if you want a great place to have a couple of cold ones, completely off the grid, and you don’t mind swapping stories with blue collar folks, stop in and enjoy.

Nomads is my favorite beer and wine dive bar in Spring Branch on Bingle road. First time I went there everyone made me feel right at home. The owner and the folks that work there are great and fun to be around. Thursday night is steak night for 8 bucks with a salad and a baked potatoe. They do have pool tables, darts and a juke box. The regulars that frequent this place are one of a kind and fun to hang out with — never any problems at this place just a lot of fun. They do let you bring your own liquor if your not a beer or wine drinker. Never judge a book by it cover.

This is one of the best dive bars I’ve ever had the opportunity to frequent. I honestly don’t think there could ever exist a better dive bar. The place used to be an old mechanics garage or ice house(I forget which) so there are garage style doors that open up which are great if the weather is nice. Beers are moderately priced– pretty weak selection, but its not a classy joint so you gotta just roll with the simplicity of the place. (((YOUCANBRINGYOUROWNBOOZE))) this was a huge plus for me. Just be nice and buy your mixer sodas from them. Larry, the owner is super nice. If you’ve never been there before THEYWILLKNOW and come over to greet you. It’s a super-friendly atmosphere and with an entirely«regular» crowd. Brandi the bartender is awesome, big up girl 2 pool tables, a few dart boards, great live music(what up little larry?! bob!?), free home-cooked food a few nights a week, and great people. I honestly cannot say enough great things about this place. Nomads– the yardstick for all future dive bars. Bring your bike and leather if you have. Even being a kid from Miami and pretty much polar opposites from these guys we had many-a fantastic blackout nights together. Stay up guys!

Where do I begin? If you don’t like being around drunk good ‘ol boys or gear heads or country music then stay away. I’ve only been a few times with fellow classmates and it was cool but I definitely wouldn’t frequent this place ESPECIALLY by myself. It is very off-putting from appearances and the inside isn’t much better. You can’t beat $ 5 buckets unless the biker gangs show up. If that happens finish your beers and gtfo. I have only been on Fridays so I can’t speak for the other nights. There are pool tables in the back room and sometimes live music so that is a plus. The parking situation isn’t the best. There are a few spots in front and another lot in the back but good luck finding a spot if you get there after 8. There is a gas station across the street you can run to if you need something other than beer in your belly. The owner is a very cool guy and easy to get along with. So is the bartender. She will play hip-hop/R&B if she wants to clear people out so I have to give 3 stars for that alone. :D This is an okay place if you keep your head on straight. There is hardly ever anyone there anyway.
