I liked the store. However things are just way too over priced comparing to the other places in town that sells the same thing. And you can find what they are selling at the other Asian grocery stores very easily.

While there are shops like H Mart and 99 Ranch around town, Nippan Daido is awesome because it focuses on Japanese cuisine and goods. They have a range of groceries on the shelf and a selection of vegetables and fruit, albeit of smaller selection – which isn’t bad. You can find more particular items to Japanese-style cuisine not as readily-available at H Mart or 99 Ranch. They also have a nice selection of seafood items and cuts, and their frozen goods are well-stocked with all variety of items. You can also rent a HUGE selection of DVDs from them, and they offer some housewares. They also have a pretty decent selection of Japanese candies. At the front of the shop you can find some interesting local-made items; usually they have fresh onigiri, from ume, salmon, tuna and kelp. My more recent trip they were selling yakiimo, which was fantastic. Items like this keep me coming back!

I forgot to wrote about my experience with their sashimi fish. After a few years it is still lingering at the back of my memory. We bought different types of sashimi fish from the shop. Our first and last time actually. It was packaged well with ice and such. When we get back and slice them, we saw yellow dot on the fish. Then the unimaginable happened. They are alive and moving! We never went back for their fish item. I think their fish is not sashimi grade as they’re supposed to be snap frozen to kill all parasites, apparently not. I’d give a 0 star if I can.

I found Nippan Daido when I was looking for sushi-grade salmon sashimi… I can’t believe I didn’t find about this place sooner! This grocery store boasts a surprisingly diverse assortment of Japanese goods… and it’s run by Japanese people! The store may be a modest 7 – 11 size, but the care & discipline put in running the store is apparent like when the staff wipe the fridge section even though the display shelf looks clean already. With sashimi, I’ve seen Hmart’s sashimi… and it looked like it had freezer burn. Sashimi quality and how it’s been handled behind-the-scenes is important to prevent food borne illnesses and preserve taste(esp since sashimi is often served by itself.) Seeing how the store is so well-maintained, I feel I can put my trust that this fish was handled correctly. The sashimi is frozen on the shelf, so allow one day to defrost in the fridge. Other than sashimi, the store carries fresh vegetables, sauces/condiments(Japanese mayo!), instant noodles, fresh ramen noodles, rice, miso paste, tofu. In the frozen aisle, you can find takoyaki balls, hot pot ingredients, gyoza, edamame, ramen soup packets with ramen. They carry my favorite Japanese snacks: mochi ice cream, egg pudding, pocky, milk candies, green tea kit kats, and others like taiyaki. For prepped foods, there are fresh breads(including Anpanman!) and onigiri(wrapped the meticulous Japanese way with plastic wrapping separating the seaweed from the rice so the seaweed remains crispy). There’s a variety of Japanese skin care/make-up(Shiseido), hair products, and other household appliances(rice cookers). In the back corner is a magazine section with the latest Japanese mangas & fashions, a bulletin board with postings and community events, and a video section. While other Asian markets may carry many similar items, Daido carries Japanese brands and some specialty products that are hard to find elsewhere. Prices are on the higher end, but you have to account for importing costs. There’s fresh sashimi, helpful staff, easy parking, and lots of random Japanese goodies to give a try — what more can I ask for(other than a bigger store?) Tip: there’s a stamp card. Once you spend $ 1000, you get a $ 20 gift card, which is essentially 2% back.

Honestly, i didn’t expect this place to be so small… Nippon Daido is a small japanese centered supermarket that sells Japanese goods. I was really looking forward to seeing some awesome Japanese snacks and food related items, but there isn’t really much difference from ordinary Asian supermarkets. The only difference I see is that they have Sashimi Grade fish and some American snacks turned Japanese sold here(Blueberry flavored Crunch bars or Green Tea/Raspberry Kit Kats). They also have Gari Gari-kun ice cream, which are an experience in their own rights(soda flavored ice pops that have crushed ice in the center). Service is nice though. I just wished they would have more variety in items in the store. Kinda disappointing. I got my hopes up way too high.

Cute Japanese grocery store that sells all sorts of authentic food and goods from Japan. I bought Japanese butter and some candy. I will be back. Their sushi looks fresh and they have mochi ice cream! Service is friendly. It’s a tad pricey but it’s worth the splurge.

This is a nice little shop to go to if you want to find some simple daily necessities. They have a little of everything, but you won’t find Japan’s trendiest product here. I went in specifically to find some skin care products.

I did like this store ^^ The items can get a bit pricey.(talking $ 30 for aftershave and $ 5.99 for sesame oil that’s $ 2.99 @ 99 Ranch Market) buuut considering it is a small family-owned place… I don’t mind. That and they carried soooooo much Japanese goods. I’ve never seen so many Japanese products in one place @0@. They also serve a few hot foods they prepared, like on Thursdays is Rice Balls: D Anyhow, they have magazines, drinks, snacks, curries, WHATEVERJAPANESEITEMYOUCANTHINKOF. Well almost everything. I couldn’t find Pocari Sweat lol. Anyhow, all of the staff speaks both English and Japanese and all are super friendly and kind. I really loved my experience here… and even though my total for like 7 items was $ 50…it was totally worth it for the expirience :) Not to mention, it’s nice to hear conversations in Japanese since this side of town I’m used to only Vietnamese ^^;. I can’t wait to go back! :D!!! It’s not super cheap, but it is super awesome –w–

Adorable, quaint, authentic Japanese store. It’s a bit small, but has a good variety of yummy Japanese snacks– Matcha Kitkats, Meiji chocolate, Moji, the list goes on. Definitely a fan!

Tons of Japanese goods that you can’t find at other Asian markets, including my favorite Royal Milk Tea and freshly-made onigiri! They also have a section of sushi-grade fish so he sure to check that out! This place is within a reasonable distance from Bellaire so you can also make a day trip out of this and checking out Houston’s China Town :)

Absolutely awesome Japanese market for the Houston area! Don’t let the size of the store deceive you, as there is lots to be found in this packed little shop(at least for this state-side connoisseur). I will say though that you have to watch for the turn in carefully, as it’s difficult to see from street view and deep within its stripcenter. I hosted a student from Japan this last winter and he was kind enough to bring my family gifts, including noodles, tea, candies and more. I was really sad when my stache finally depleted a few months back, so I decided this morning to search for any eligible markets in the Houston area. It was well worth the drive and exceeded my expectations. The sashimi grade fish is exceptional and very well priced, there is a fine assortment of miso, sauces, curry, noodles(regular and packaged), rice and sweets. The clerk who checked me out was a very nice woman who mentioned the shop had been in the area for 30 years(long before my time), and was very kind in helping me studder through my sub-par Japanese. Very excited to find this. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in search of Japanese ingredients, and can expect to return soon!

Small store but they’re stocked with a lot of items. The cashier was very informative and helped me with my purchases and recommended many great items. I’d go back for the service and cleanliness.

This is such a cute store! I came here in search of some taro but ended up leaving with much more! They had a good selection of candy and various chips. They also had green tea kit kats which I was excited to find. But only got one bag as I thought $ 7.99 was quite pricey for a small bag of kit kats. They also had a dark chocolate kit Kat that I did not get. I ended up spending about $ 40 or so. They had a stamp system which I thought was a great idea. You earn stamps on a card that they give you which will eventually lead up to a gift card. So I’ll definitely be going back!

The only Japanese grocery that I know in Houston. The store is just adorable. The people are super friendly and nice. They have specific authentic japanese ingredients. The price is a little high but worth it. Quality is great! Fresh! I go in to buy one thing and come out with my wallet empty.

Top Reasons to Visit: –Assortment of Kit Kat flavors(i.e. Green Tea, Dark Chocolate, etc.) –Packaged Sashimi, ready to eat! –Green Tea Pocky! –Japanese Mayonnaise Despite how small the store is, there are so many interesting things to look at. In fact, I was at the candy section for almost fifteen minutes trying to decide on what I wanted. I couldn’t help but to pick up each box with a smiling cartoon figure and boxes with no English on it. It’s the perfect store for impulse buyers like me. Most of the items sold here aren’t offered in that many other Asian stores. Albeit, the Fit store, 99 Ranch, Super H-Mart, and even HK4 sell some similar product; this store specializes in Japanese groceries so they have more Japanese related foods. Overall, this store is fun to browse around. They sell an assortment of Japanese candies, groceries, and even small kitchenware and hair products. Staff is friendly and speak Japanese and English(with strong accent).
